Most recent match in July '13, poured from the Growler into my Tulip. Thanks Glen!

A: Dark with a nice off-white rim, not a lot of head on this but the rim stays put, a fair amount of lacing as I drink through it.

S: Chocolate, Vanilla, Roasted Malts dominate

T: The chocolate and vanilla really hit up front as well as a roastiness. The back-end is much sweeter than you'd normally expect, I'm assuming its coming from dark fruits as it almost tastes like it has wine barrel in it (which it doesn't so perhaps I'm crazy). Its a very enjoyable taste however.

M: Medium bodied, just right.

O: Very enjoyable brew, just as good as I last remember it. I'm glad I was able to drink a full pour to myself vs. small pours at a tasting.

Consumed last weekend with a friend, reviewed from memory. I will update this once I've drank another growler and given it a more formal review.

A- Pours pitch black with a small brown head that quickly recedes into a circle around the edge of the glass. Appears to be very thick, no carbonation visible. Right on for the style.

S- Smells of rich chocolate, coffee, and vanilla. Not in the least bit overpowering, just incredibly inviting.

T- Taste follows the smell- up front there is a bit of a bourbon barrel bite that is followed up by very strong vanilla, caramel, milk chocolate and roast notes. This beer is clearly on the upper echelon of BA stouts.

M- Thick, as expected. No notable carbonation. Full mouth feel, this is a very rich beer. For as big of a beer as it is, it went down very easily and was extremely drinkable.

O- Absolutely fantastic beer from a brewery I haven't had the pleasure of trying before. After drinking, I immediately started searching for more, if that is any indicator of how good it is.

In town for CCB Huna day and to my surprise it's also Tampa Beer Week. Doug, son of Peg and brewer at Peg's and asst brewer at CCB, was an excellent host for this most awesome release, 3/9/2012.

Pitch black elixir into snifter, brown-tan 3mm head, thick lacing, nice.

Coffee, chocolate, burnt malt, whiskey, well blended. Really took my time, with the nose buried into the snifter enjoying each pull.

Wow, this hits it. Complex and I mean balanced, flavors of whiskey, coffee, chocolate, nut, malt, sweat vanilla come through, nice bitterness lingers. Well made.

Full bodied, smooth, thick but not cloying.

Few brews equal the hype and this is one.

Have tried 4 growlers in the past two weeks from two separate trades. Review is based on all four.

A- Pours a deep brown with two bottles having a high level of carbonation creating a 2 finger head leaving plenty of lacing, while the other left small spots of lacing with minimal head.

S- Initially there is a decent amount of warm whiskey, a hint of vanilla and caramel with faint cherry notes. However, within a minute or two, the sour cherry becomes more prominent with some vinegar.

T- The sour cherry becomes more and more apparent with every sip with notes of band-aid. There are hints of whiskey, chocolate and vanilla, but the sour/acidic/medicinal flavors are prominent especially at the end of the sip.

M- Carbonation ranged from low to medium, with the sour cherry acidity lingering.

O- Unfortunately, I have yet to try this beer without having any infection issues. There are signs of promise for this beer, especially when you first open it up, but the infection is pretty apparent and makes the beer basically undrinkable. Drain pours after a couples sips for all four growlers.

Growler-bottle generously shared by yourefragile at a tasting, much thanks!

Pours a deep chocolate brown with a minimal amount of mocha head, but it leaves some nice lacing after a swirl and a thin layer sticks around for the duration of the drink.

Aroma is whiskey off the bat but upon further review there is some chocolate with minimal amounts of char and some vanillla. this aroma is pretty much perfect for a barrel aged stout.

Taste is somewhat sweet with the wood and char you would expect from a good -bal stout, I also get some toasted coconut and wood flavors. The taste is very well integrated and I really can't think of a way to make this any better.

Mouthfeel is very smooth with a surprising amount of carbonation for an order growler. It coats the mouth and the taste really lingers for quite awhile after the finish. This has got to be one of the best beers I've had and by far the best surprise I've experienced. This one doesn't come up short in any category.

Tap at Peg's for Berliner Bash. Near ink pour with rich, reverse cascade mocha head. Not too much lace. Nose is tawny, black pepper, bourbon richness, melted fudge. Taste is quite rich and on style- buttery bourbon, melted dark chocolate fudge, vanilla. Spicy wood finish. A bit dry through the end. Still, quite delicious. Really like the palate on this one. Doesn’t really improve as it warms.

THX! for the sample of this gorgeous rarity. This originated from one of the growlers that Mikkeller & To Øl @ Borefts 2013. I didn’t get it from the stand, I managed to get RareR there but missed this one. I have heard from pretty much everyone who has ever gotten hold of this one that their growler was infected & this was no exception. It didn’t taste terrible or anything but this was clearly not what it should have been. I have absolutely no idea how this beer managed to get its reputation. Huge local pushing? Or is it mind-blowing at the source? Black with a mocha head. Smells lactic (yeah) with bourbon, vanilla, sweet, chocolate, caramel, coffee,… Lastic taste, high carb & a bit thin body but still very enjoyable with its notes of vanilla, molasses, caramel, touch coconut, sweet caramel, coffee, faint roast, light warming spirit. Flat, spirit. It must be noted that even despite its condition this was till very enjoyable. Luckily the RareR was in good condition.

Had on tap, 11-11-11 high gravity night at peg's cantina.
A: Pitch black with a light tan head. Starts a perfect 1 finger and slowly dissipates into a consistent tan rim.
S: Chocolate covered cherries galore! A bit woody with lots of bourbon in this batch. Dark fruit with hints of vanilla and coffee.
T: lots of well blended bourbon, mingling with chocolate and vanilla silk. Creamy full flavored, with excellent wood notes. Pretty outstanding. After taste of tootsie roll and smokey bourbon and bittersweet chocolate.
M: Silky smooth, on the middle end of big bodied. Very wet with huge lingering after taste.
O: What a treat! Just too delicious for the gravity. Can't put this one down for a second.

Received 6 Small growlers from Peg's - FedExed by friend to Texas. I was surprised by how good this beer really is.

A - Pours almost pure black. Very dark, small wisps of dark foam. A few lines of bubbles continue to create small bubble colonies.

S - Rich and boozy. Well developed with dark fruits, wood and whiskey.

T - Very complex and layered. Flavor goes through a process of revealing different characteristics over about 15 seconds. Tannins first - woody tang. Subtle whiskey. Then the "dark fruits" and finally roasty flavors that pleasantly hang for some time. Warming.

M - Mouthfeel is wonderfully silky and rich.

O - A nearly perfect beer.

On tap at the LCBS 10. Black pour with a big brown head. Sweet bourbon and roasted malt aromas. The taste was sweet and smooth. Loaded with bourbon, vanilla, caramel malt, chocolate, and just a hint of coffee. Dak was spot on at the tasting and on his rating. This stout does taste a lot like Older Viscosity...

12/7/10. Pumped straight from the keg at the brewpub very kindly by Christina! Niiice black pour with a small brown head that laces a ton. Huuuuge BA aroma on this cat! Tons of vanilla, coconut, butter, and more with a definite whiskey burn. Sweet imperial stout flavor loaded with BA coconut, vanilla, and more. Finishes with nice roasted coffee and dusty dark chocolate... Quite delicious!

Thanks so much to yourfragile to bringing this to our tasting! Thanks Mike, this an amazing find!

Ok, so I'm coming out of beer rating retirement to review this phenomenal beer. This beer is easily in my top 5 favorite beers.
A: pours jet back with with tan lacing that sticks around.
S: The smell is amazing - so much dark chocolate, rich bourbon notes, and strong vanilla and coconut
T: Wow! This is amazing! The combination of fudge, vanilla, coconut, maple syrup, toffee, and high quality bourbon is out of this world! The caramel after taste linger on for sooo long!
M: The mouthfeel is the best - soooo smooth and creamy. It's also very thick - almost like a Dark Lord.
O: This is one of the best beers out there. Absolutely phenomenal and worthy of all the praise. You should seek out this beer, it is awesome!

Glad I locked this one down when it was in the 90's before its meteoric rise into the top 30. Crazy stuff. Growler (that's what everyone else is calling these counterpressured 22's) shared with my father-in-law who is a big whiskey guy.

The beer pours black with a dark head that leaves a collar on the outside. It smells absolutely fantastic with a mixture of chocolate and bourbon whiksey as well as some good barrel flavors. My father-in-law says Palm Ridge whiskey is not all that good and thinks this "doesn't taste like beer" but what does he know. I'm thankful, leaves more of the beer for me. It's creamy with some moderate carbonation. I don't get much alcohol in this. This is an awesome beer, worth acquiring repeatedly.

Appearance: This beer is jet black with a light brown head that persists throughout. The abundance of lacing lets me know that that this beer means business.
Smell: An extremely potent aroma of bourbon with hints of coffee and chocolate. All of the necessary elements in creating an excellent stout.
Taste: The complexity of the flavors is nothing like I've ever tasted before. A wonderful mixture of coffee bourbon and chocolate where each sip is better than the next.
Mouthfeel: Sticky. Smooth. Drinkable.
Overall: Absolutely ridiculous. This beer is so well balanced it's scary. Who would win in a fight, Doug the brewer, or God? Trick question, Doug the brewer is God.

Had this boy on tap at Peg's for the BA release on March 9, 2012. Poured a jet back into a 12oz snifter. Sweet aroma, vanilla, cocoa, and sticky sweet alcohol. While it was still cold it makes for a little underwhelming... LET IT WARM. As it warms there is a great balance of chocolate, vanilla, and oak. Very smooth and wonderfully balanced. This was quite delicious.

After 2 years of failing to review, this beer was the "one" to break my rating virginity. thank you jw347 for this opportunity. i smelled a combination of chocolate, coconut, and of course vanilla and bourbon. nice mouth feel, the after taste reminded me of biting into a fudge brownie and it lingered a long time. there is also a slight alcohol tinge at the end but it did not affect my overall enjoyment of this beer. it was awesome!

I don't normally review any beers but felt compelled to due to how good this beers was.

It had a pretty dark color that smelled amazing. It smelled and tasted like a dark chocolate bar...almost like marshmallow, ginger and cinnamon. The taste is smooth and easy drinking. I really like this beer. I don't get the opportunity to drink that many stouts like this but one I would drink again if I had the opportunity. Cheers!

Mucho Thanks to brother-in-law RudyLaw for overtrading for this phenomenal offering. I have been waiting for a beer worthy for my first review, and ALAS this barrel aged beauty was the one.

Drank in Darkness snifters from bottle. First appearance was black pour with perfect viscosity, and 1cm of natural perfect effervescence on top. The first whiff was sweet chocolate, allspice and whiskey, unbelievable nose. As this beer warmed up the warmer accents came to the top and the nose changed to malty, coconutty goodness.

All I can say about the taste is layers and waves of great dark chocolate, coconut, malt, bourbon, and the longer it sat the creamer it got. The natural carbonation forced every flavor into every tastebud. I am shocked this keg filled bottle hung on for this long, but boy was it worth it. I am super stoked I got to drink half of this bottle with RudyLaw and not just settle for a few ounces, every sip was better than the last.

16oz growler sent from MrSquash

Pitch black and a creamy head that's as dark as it gets. Sexy lacing and legging.

Sweet caramel, cinnamon, and cocoa. Warming bourbon and vanilla oak. Substantially sweeter than RareR from what I remember. So far so good.

Exquisitely balanced. Brown sugar, sweet bourbon, vanilla bean, charred oak, caramel, a bit of chocolate cake... all things that are nice.

Shit's bangin.
