Big thanks to urwithdave for this one. Happy to try this one and the latest batch of RareR DOS side-by-side. Cheers!
From a 500ml growler into a snifter
APPEARANCE: This one looks exactly the same as RareR. Pours our sludgy and thick but not quite pitch black and yields a smaller, medium looking light mocha head with decent retention. Head recedes rather quickly to a ring and faint wisp. Black body with no real carbonation evident. A faint ring remains but leaves no lacing down the glass.
SMELL: The nose on this one is much different than RareR. The initial sniff was heavy on the cat food, but that worked itself out soon enough, thankfully. Once it did, whisky, caramel and toffee with notes of maple sugary sweetness come out really nicely. Oak and roasted grains as well, with light hints of milk chocolate and vanilla. Really great, though I found RareR more enticing.
TASTE: Follows the nose nicely. Whisky with oak flavors, as well as maple, caramel and toffee sweetness up front, then some roasted grains, vanilla and more whisky at the swallow. Big, bold and lingering finish of whisky, oak, sweet caramel and maple sugar, some bitter dark chocolate and roasted espresso. Light flavors of oats make their way through as well. This one is more caramel, maple and roasted bitterness while RareR is more sweet vanilla and coconut. Both are excellent.
PALATE: Medium body with medium levels of carbonation. Very creamy smooth on the palate, goes down smooth and finishes rather sticky. Coats the mouth. Really nice, though could use more weight for top marks. Same as RareR.
OVERALL: Amazing this isn't a maple stout. The first wiff put me off, making me think this was going to be a cat food laced disappointment, but after a few short minutes, the real character came through in all its glory. Lots of nice sweet, sugary flavors with enough bitterness to balance it out. Compared to RareR, this one is more caramel and maple sweetness balanced with dark chocolate while RareR is more sweet cream, vanilla and coconut. Either way, both are really decadent and a wonderful treats. Thanks again for the beers urwithdave. Loved these.

An exceptional whiskey barrel-aged stout in nearly every way. Thick, black, heavy, and coating in appearance with a dominating chocolate and whiskey combination in the aroma. A little bit of wood and peat as well. The flavors translate nicely as well along with a rich, coating, luxurious mouthfeel experience. Decadent and delicious.

500 mL growler poured into a snifter.
Appearance - Inky black. Decent mocha head. Medium collar.
Smell - Rich chocolate. Whiskey. A little peaty. Boozy. Whiskey dominates the nose.
Taste - Whiskey is less dominant. Rich dark chocolate. Scotch-like whiskey. Oaky. Slightly sharp finish from the whiskey.
Mouthfeel - Thick. Medium low carbonation. Boozy.
Overall - Pretty good, though I prefer the bourbon barrel to this. Not infected though!
