I am overjoyed to have Peg's Cantina and Brewpub be my 100th review! Pegs was the destination of my recent 4,500 mile, round trip road trip. And it was well worth every mile and cent to get there.
Peg's is located on the main drag of a sleepy beach town in Gulfport, FL. There isn't a whole lot going on nearby, a small diner, a couple restaurants, but mostly small shops and small residential beach homes.
That is exactly what Peg's is, a small beach home that has been renovated to be a kick ass restaurant and world class brewing facility.
The first day we stopped by, it was right at lunch, and the bartender/server was very friendly. When I walked thru the door, I joked I was there to get in line for the RareR DOS release in a week, and I had driven all the way from Michigan for it...the bartender laughed and welcomed us. A young woman sitting at a nearby table joked that she knew who we were, but she wasn't joking, she was serious. She had read on BA that we were travelling down from Michigan for the event, and it was really nice to have her recognize us.
We sat down, enjoyed a few brews, and at some real good food. The Blue Crab quesadilla was very good, and the flat bread was very tasty as well. The beers that we sampled that first day were slightly above average...More on that later.
The atmosphere at Peg's is very laid back. They have a large garden in the front of the building which creates a great, very laid back atmosphere. It's a very beautiful spot, only a couple blocks from the ocean, and you really feel that when you are outside hanging out.
Peg's really brought the heat at their RareR DOS release. A group of BA's and myself had a 14 top reservation for a bottle share at noon...they put us in the back screened in porch area, dedicated a server to us, and totally took care of us. Seems like most of us purchased at least two glasses to start the festivities, and half of us ordered food. Peg's let us open up some bottles back there, and share them with the staff. They held one large table for us through out the evening, even though they were telling people they had a 45 minute to hour wait for a table. How nice of them...really honorable.
Now Doug and Eric. Let me tell you guys. I know one of you will read this at some point, but your welcoming hearts will not be forgotten. You made Kelly and I feel so at home and welcome, and we can not thank you enough. Doug, you are a great brewer, who is continuing to grow your craft. Good luck man! Eric, keep it up dude. You seem like you are in a totally great place, and I wish you the best. Come visit me in Michigan man!
The beer that was served at the RareR release was absolutely amazing. I had at least one glass of EVERYTHING, and somethings two or three or four, hell if I know.
It was a great day, and a truly heart warming experience that was felt at Peg's...thanks to everyone that made that possible! I will return.

My wife and I stopped here to try their beers and to have dinner while on vacation. Peg's is located inside a converted bungalow type of house, and there is a quaint coziness to it with the decor that they have installed. I didn't see the brewing equipment for Cycle Brewing, so I don't know if the beers are brewed on premises or not. The neighborhood is a mixture of small homes and other businesses that are also in former dwellings. It's a cool neighborhood.
We arrived early enough to take a table on the patio at the front of the building, and the weather was perfect for the evening. There appears to also be a covered deck to one side of the building that would allow for more outside dining, especially if it was raining. The small bar and a few tables were located just inside the front door.
There were 12 beers on the menu, but unfortunately only 7 were available. Bummer! We ordered a sampler of 5 of them, and then later ordered a pint of one of the others. Each of the beers was right to style, but this brewery tends to specialize in sessionable beers, thus none of them had an ABV over 6 percent. There were three different session IPAs, and each was less than 5% ABV. To me, with sessionable beers, there is a somewhat lack of a zing to the flavor, and each of these beers exhibited that characteristic. If you like mild-flavored, GOOD beers, then these beers are very good examples of that. I'm not a fan of this type of beer, but I appreciate that it is difficult to brew beers like this, so I'm not going to rate them negatively. You just have to know going here that the beers won't knock your socks off flavor-wise.
The food was good and each of our entrees had a special twist to it that makes them unique to this restaurant. I'd love to try other things on future visits, and regardless of the session beers, I'd go back again.
