750ml into a tulip. Pours a hazy dull tang, frothy head, thick lacing.

Aroma is all yeasty goodness with lots of apricot and a hint of spicy citrus. Restrained old shoes funk.

Apples, pears, pepper & spice in that order. Aftertaste feels like it's about to turn dry but doesn't, has a surprising sweet upturn at the last moment.

Creamy medium bodied mouthfeel. Pairs well with food. So balanced the tip of the tongue doesn't react upon first sipping. Evolves significantly with warmth as the hoppy funk comes forward.

S: Spicy yeastiness with a spot of clove, white pepper and some pils malt. Spicy hoppiness also present with a touch of fruit, pear mostly. Some grass floral notes, wildflowers and mustiness as it warms.

L: Cloudy orangish yellow, huge white carbonated head, solid retention.

T: Semi-sweet belgian malt, some subtle clove and white pepper. Slight peppery bitterness leads to a semi-dry slight musty finish. Some soft honey notes as it warms.

M: Highly carbonated, medium mouthfeel.

Very solid, worth the price? Not sure. I'll definitely try a few more from them.

Hazy bright orange hue with a dense, sticky, rocky white head that grew quite large with just a light pour into the glass. Faded it quickly enough that I didn't become impatient and left lots of lace behind.

Lemony fruity esters upfront with some grassy/herbal notes as well. A mild phenolic spice note becomes ever more present with each whiff and the saison yeast adds a musty/earthy character in the finish.

Grassy floral character and some graininess account for some of the flavor but the yeast does most of the work on your palate. Lots of peppery and some clove like phenolic notes with a slight hint of citrus along side this. As it warms it finishes with a strong earthy character that really lets you know this is a saison.

Mouthfeel is slightly dry with lively, bubbly, and light mouthfeel. Overall, I'm really enjoying this saison with a stronger musty yeast character than many but it doesn't quite stand out against the best of them.

(750ml bottle from Total Wine Desert Ridge). Pours a cloudy yellow-orange color with piloow-top white head. Active carbonation. Aroma has lemon, spices, pepper and wheat. Taste is malty sweet, emphasis on malt, with some bittness. I’m not digging the maltiness at all. Medium bodied with oily texture. Slightly bitter finish. Not bad, but too malt forward for my tastes.

Appearance: Poured out of the bottle with a huge head that settled quickly. Nice yellow color.

Smell: Lemony, with floral undertones. Yeast is also noticeable.

Taste: Yeast is noticeable here as well, maybe a little too much so. Nice sweetness. Finishes strong with a little bitterness, but not overwhelming.

Mouthfeel: Good carbonation, alcohol not overwhelming.

Overall: While this was a good beer, it's not my favorite of this style. Would certainly drink again, but won't become a staple.

Pours a cloudy golden yellow with a thick bubbly white head.

Smells floral and peppery.

Tastes are dry and earthy. Pepper spice and lemon zest followed by a nice breadiness.

Mouthfeel is medium with lots of carbonation. Very drinkable and smooth.

Overall is good. This isn't my first bottle I've had of this beer and I could certainly see buying it again.

This bottle has always grabbed my attention, so I decided to check out this brewery.

Poured gently into a giant Tripel Karmeliet glass. Hazy straw/amber body with an absolutely massive white head. Head was literally 60-70% of the pour. Eventually settles in a good one-inch thick head.

Aroma has lot going on. The yeast funk immediately makes itself known without even moving the glass near my face. After the yeast comes the apple/pear fruity sweetness. Lemon zest, pepper, and grainy malts also in there. Flavor is of mildly-sweet bready malts, lemon zest, peppercorn, and some grassy/earthy hops. Peppery, funky and slightly tart in the finish. Well carbonated, bubbly, and creamy.

Glad I picked up this beer. Will seek out again.

Pours a clear, gold color. 1/4 inch head of a white color. Decent retention and decent lacing. Smells of fresh malt, hint of hops, and slight yeast. Fits the style of a Saison / Farmhouse Ale. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of sweet malt, slight pale malt, hops, and slight yeast. Overall, not complex, decent appearance and aroma.

750ml bottle. First pour is a slightly hazy golden color with a huge frothy white head. Very strong and spicy aromas. Lots of fruit aromas; lemons and apricots. Citrusy, and floral hops. There's a lot going on there.

Onto the taste: At first you get the sweet fruity flavors. Lemons, citrus, and apricot with a mix of the hop for a little bittering effect. The finish is more spicy and peppery with a touch of the hops lingering through out. Quite complex and QUITE tasty Smooth and creamy mouthfeel. Just overall a truly fantastic beer. Would def. purchase again.

A- This beer pours a slightly hazy deep golden yellow body with a creamy beige head that last a good bit. There are tiny strands of carbonation that trail to the surface.

S- The dry buttery diacetyl aroma takes on a sweat sock quality as the beer warms and blends into a pear and apricot aroma in the finish.

T- The pear and apricot estery flavor has a soft diacetyl buttery note and a pleasant soft white cheese rind and saison yeast flavor to it. There are some grapefruit pith notes and a peppery hops bite in the finish that has a butter hint that lingers.

M- The medium-light mouthfeel has a creamy texture in the finish.

O- Lots of pear and buttery flavors that dominate this beer. The fruity esters and saison yeast blend well together but they are not strong enough for the diacetyl that takes over. As the beer warms there is a nice pear and cottage cheese flavor underneath with the yeast and fruit.

A – White head builds nicely and settles at an average rate. Poor lace though. Golden honey body.

S – Light, but complex. Midly peppery, with a touch of booze. Faint lavender, herbal, and barny notes.

T – Soft malt into an herbal-forward citrus note of lemon, cilantro, sage, coriander and orange zest. The back end finishes softer with white pepper and lavender.

M – Great carbination. Medium body. Dry and lightly minerally finish.

O – A great, herbal, spritzy saison.

Beer is an attractive hazy gold with a nice ivory head. Medium aroma of yeast and grapefruit. Taste is very good. Some malt, nice and yeasty, with a pleasantly bitter and somewhat dry finish. It's very well balanced. Mouthfeel is excellent. It's a very drinkable beer. An excellent saison. Definitely one to have again.

A: Poured from a bottle to a pint glass. Had a golden brown color and a cloudy consistency. There was a huge, fluffy, bright white, long-lasting head. Above average lacing.

S: A spicy, funky, malty aroma. Smells just like a saison should.

T: Tasted of malt, Belgian yeast, spices (pepper, cloves), a little citrus, some hops, and that typical barnyard funk. Slightly more subtle than a lot of other saisons, but very tasty nonetheless.

M: A highly carbonated beer with a smooth finish. Medium-bodied.

O: This is a well made, easy to drink beer. Extremely drinkable.

A very nice beer.
Hazy gold color, thick white head. A bit of delicate lacing.
Lemon aroma mostly. Spicy and peppery. Sweet malt in the background.
A lot more going on in the taste. Lemon first, then pepper and cloves. Bready. An earthiness from the yeast. And, to top it off, some late hops. The flavors all worked well with each other.
A crisp, refreshing beer.
If we ever get some warm weather up here, it would be a perfect beer for a summer day.

This was a corrective saison: I split a large bottle with my wife after hacking through a Sam Adams saison earlier in the day. I'd give this an A if not for two things: the soda-poppy carbonation, which adds a needle-pointy edge to everything; and the over-hopping, which adds an acidy feel that belongs in an IPA, not in a saison. I like my saisons with fewer abrasives and a bit more of that pillowy, yeasty taste. If you like to belch, however, this beer will give you championship results.

750mL capped bomber poured into an oversize wine glass

Pours a cloudy golden straw color with a huge, effervescent paper white cap that rose quickly to fill the glass and forcing me to slow my pour. A decent amount of spider web lacing.

There's a lot going on in this nose. Lemon zest, peppercorns, green apples and pears, oranges, undercooked bread, and a bit of earthiness for good measure. Nearly overwhelming.

The flavor follows the nose almost exactly. Undercooked bread with oranges and lemon peel, rounded out by peppercorns and tart fruity esters (green apple and pear). An underlying saddle leather type funk becomes more prevalent as the beer warms.

A light body that fills the mouth with a chewy body. If that makes any sense. It's light, but it has the billowy characteristic that makes it chewy.

Overall, I really enjoyed this saison. Wonderfully complex and drinkable. A perfect complement to a warm afternoon. And some pretty cool label artwork as well.

Very nice, super bubbly sunshine and copper color. The head is overwhelmingly voluminous, often times overflowing my glass with its of white foam even after a delicate pour.

Dry toasted and untoasted barley grains along with herbs and herbal smelling hops make up the brunt of this aroma. A little on the sweeter side than most saisons I've had, but very good nonetheless.

The taste starts with sweet bread grains, some malted and some not. The taste makes me think of sweet scones. The middle has a lovely herbal note that I'm not sure if its the hops or actual herbs added to the boil. Either I taste chammomile and grass. The alate is a little dry, but syrupy at the same time.

Very nise saison that would be a great intro. saison for a new comer to better beer. Then they could work there way to the drier saisons.

Enjoyed on tap at Blue Monk in Buffalo. Poured what appeared to be a hazy light orange color. It was a little difficult to see in the light from the bar. It had a nice efferescent white head that lasted a good while. The aroma was grainy, yeasty, slightly citrusy. The flavor was a nice balance of yeast character, grainy malt backbone, enough hop bitterness to balance, some lemon and grapefruit citrus, light spiciness, and a wonderful tart dry finish. Light to medium body with lots of carbonation. Enjoyable throughtout with nice changes as the temperature warmed the beer. Would definitely recommend to have as soon as possible and often as possible.

There are three ways you can ruin a saison (that I'm aware of): you can over-spice them, you can under-carbonate them, or you can under-attenuate them. Stateside Saison, despite lovely carbonation and a wonderful, yeast-driven flavor, falls short due to the last point, there.

A hazy golden straw, that moves towards a richer orange hue with the second pour and the addition of a touch of yeast, it pours with a huge, lustrous head... but has exceedingly disappointing retention, leaving just a thin ring around the glass with no real lacing to speak of.

Aroma is musty, yeasty, and floral, with notes of pepper.

On the palate, this is well balanced, firmly but not overly bitter... and disappointingly sweet and full bodied. The barest hint of wheaty twang combined with the fullness provides an appealing note of vinuousness, but even the robust carbonation can't overcome this rich, syrupy sweetness that leaves the beer full bodied. Further, there's notes of high alcohol present, truly unacceptable in a beer of this relatively benign strength (as modern-day saisons go). What flavor IS there is actually quite tasty, and this drinks as an ok sipper, so I'm loathe to drop the "taste" score here to a 2.5, but it probably deserves it.

Overall, there are some exceedingly pleasant notes present in this beer, and it's drinkable as-is. That's the polite side of things. The critical side says they really need to work on their fermentation practices. This beer isn't strong enough to be showing off high alcohols, and there's no reason, particularly when avoiding using the Dupont Saison strain, for this beer not to be far more attenuated.

Shows promise, but for now, entering the dustbin of mediocre American-made saisons. Sad, because the bottle alone makes me want to fall in love.

Thanks to finewinemike for the opportunity to taste this Saison. Its one of my favorite styles, and I'm always willing to try new versions.

Poured into my dfh snifter- pours a dark golden color, with some frothy foam, but not too much- it quickly recedes and leaves little cover on the beer. Appearance is overall average. Smell- lemon, wheat, the wheat is overpowering and a little off putting. Taste- sweet, bready, but something that I love about Saisons is really missing here. I love the cracked pepper and coriander flavors, I dont see any of that here. I tried the Stillwater Cellar Door Saison a few days ago, and find it much superior to this one.

750 ml bottle with a foil top and rusted pry-off cap split and poured into a Bruery tulip.
6.8% ABV, no date.

Thanks to TheDTrain for choo-chooing this one over to my place!

A - Goldenrod and light apricot orange in color with a hazed-over clarity. After the gusher stopped spilling all over my legs, carpet, etc. it was topped by a loose white head in the glass. Good retention and patchy lace left behind.

S - Notes of lemon citrus and a unique spice aroma. Dusty dirt and clay with yeast is powerful. A very earthy nose with a pilsner malt backing and...maybe some coriander?

T - The different nuances all seem to blend together and get overshadowed by pesky carbonation. Very yeast-driven, it's got white pepper, coriander, earthy clay, and some citrus notes above the malt. Willamet hops provide an earthy backbone and finish to the yeast profile.

M - Extensively and annoyingly carbonated, it's got a bothersome champagne-like tickle in the mouth. Medium-light bodied and quite filling.

O - I'm struggling with this because a) it's way too carbonated and filling and b) it's overly yeasty. A solid attempt but it makes me weary of dropping the coin on their other offerings. Too earthy.

As I open the cap I get worried... only a small whisp of carbonation ecscapes. It pours a nice orange that is crystal clear and has one finger of head that disapears quickly. No lacing.

Aroma is citrus (lemon) light black pepper and some pilsner malt. Some apricot and yeastiness are evident. The yeast is obviously WY3711.

Taste is quite fruity and mildly spicy. There is a hint of toastiness, light malts and a fruity yeast character. Toward the finish apricots, pears and hop bitterness dominate. Fairly acrid overall.

Mouthfeel is medium/light bodied with medium/high carbonation.

Overall this beer is good and fairly well crafted but falls flat of many examples I have tried that posses much more rustic character, more fruity yeast notes and much higher carbonation.

A-Light copper body with about 3 fingers off a pretty soft pour. I think the bottle is one of the better looking designs I have seen recently, not that bottle design has any influence here.

S-Musty yeast and some herbal hop hit right away and mostly dominate. Some light pear and apricot follow with a little bit of lemon hiding in there as well. The fruits are pretty mellow, and a little pepper and some almost cheese like aromas (think Feta) keep things nice and rustic. The alcohol was kept nicely under wraps, but I might like to see a little more hop complexity.

T-Slightly spicy right away moving into some very nice caramel and biscuit malts. The peppery/earthy hops develop nicely to meet the malt profile, and after a second the fruity yeast stepped up to round things out, I got apricot again, some apple, pear, and just a little peach. Finishing I started to get some phenolic spice along with a little honey sweetness and the first evidence of the musty notes I got out of the aroma. After finishing the beer really dried my palate and the hops really stepped forward with bitterness and a nice earthy pepper quality.

M-High carb and very dry.

D-This beer made my night. Very nicely balanced flavor and a pleasant aroma along with a very nice mouth feel. I see that there are some dry hopped varieties of this beer, I suspect that dry hopping would round out the aroma and make this even better than it already is. I really look forward to a warm summer afternoon with a bottle of this, I think that this would make an excellent refreshing summer beer.
