For the first edition of the Stillwater Import Series I traveled to the village of Beerzel, located in the Antwerp province of Belgium. Here I teamed up with brewmaster Jef Goetelen to craft an authentic Belgian version of my liquid interpretation of the Spring season. A recipe originally contrived a few years prior as a collaboration brew with my good friend Paul Kretzer. The base is German barley & wheat, with a touch of Belgian aromatic; accented with grassy hops and an array of spring botanicals (heather, chamomile, lavender, & dandelion). Like a fresh meadow in spring.

12 oz bottle, poured into a goblet

Appearance: Pours a very pretty, golden color with a quarter of a finger of white-colored head that quickly and completely dissolved away into no head what-so-ever.

Aroma: Toasted malt up front, imparting bready notes of biscuits, crackers, freshly toasted bread, followed by some faint citrus aromas of lemon and orange-peel. I also get a touch of spice, such as black pepper and coriander.

Taste: Very nice flavors of bready, toasted malt, caramel-like sweetness, a touch of orange-like citrus and some spices of coriander, black pepper and lavender.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied and slightly effervescent, as there is some, but not a lot of carbonation. With an ABV of 7.2%, there is no alcohol on the palate.

Overall: Wow! This is another great saison by Stillwater! I’m really, really impressed with this brewer!

Very nice beer. Easy drinking and could easily drink enough to really get in trouble. We purchase at the wine source so drank in bottles. We gave an extra .5 pts in look for lovely artwork on packaging.

Floral and soft herbs with fruit and honey. Very clean, very well done overall. Drinks wonderfully. The body and carbonation are a bit lacking, but this one is tough to set down. Very enjoyable.

Some nice funk. A pear funk with some good carbonation. Different than any other Beerb I've had. Kudos

Appearance: Hazy yellow orange, thin white cap and OK lacing.

Aroma: Medium+ pungent herbs. Lavender and chamomile up front. There are also some aromas reminiscent of lemon/hibiscus. not sure if that's the heather/dandelion or the hops/yeast. I don't know exactly what that stuff smells like. Whatever it is I like it. Also got some bready grain character.

Flavor: Pretty intense character of fruit, herbs and spice. Can't tell where the adjuncts, yeast, and hops begin and end. Sign of a world class saison IMO. Little to no hop bitterness.

Mouthfeel: Light bodied and fairly dry, but a bit of lingering sweetness keeping me from bumping it to a 4.5.

Overall: Another one knocked out of the park from Stillwater.
