Nearly clear golden in the tulip glass. Decent head. Nothing jumps out with the flavors. The juniper is quite subtle, probably a good thing. Flavored with Bols Genever, which would explain the juniper taste.

Fairly light mouthfeel with a little viscuous-ness. Distinct bitterness starts early and carries on to the finish. Just a rim of flavor. Tasty lips but a bland tongue. Sounds like a good idea, but flavors are kind of washed out. A faint echo of fruit. Rather buttery.

Yet another unsatisfying oddity fro Stillwater. [On tap at the now defunct Boilermaker in Phila. Notes from 05/23/2012 visit]

Served from tap into a Trappe Door tulip. Poured a hazy pale golden yellow with a two finger white head that subsided to one finger very slowly. Maintained nice lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, banana, clove, spice, wood, fruit, and earth. The flavor was of sweet malt, banana, fruit, clove, spice, and earth. It had a light feel on the palate with high carbonation. Overall this was a pretty decent brew. The flavors and aromas going on in this were quite spot on for the style, but didn't really take it much further than that unfortunately. The banana and clove was a nice touch, but wasn't need in my opinion. This one did finish quite dry compared to some Saisons I've had in the past which was a little off-putting but didn't kill the brew by any means. Worth trying if you get the chance to do so at least.

First had: on tap at TJ's, Paoli, PA

Clear golden pour with a finger's worth of white head that receded to a thin layer, leaving some soapy lacing behind. Herbal aroma, spicy, leafy, malty. Elements of the aroma followed through into the taste, herbs, sweet malts, juniper, pine, nutmeg, a bit of pithy bitterness. I'm not a fan of juniper/gin, and I was good to move on after one glass, but it certainly was interesting. Another show of saison diversity by Stillwater.

Enjoyed on tap at Ebenezer's Pub. Herbs , spices, that as a whole grant it a Juniper element, gin tasting, with tangy fruit and pepper.Bitter finish. Interesting farmhouse and tasty, fairly smooth and drinkable. Good for what it is.Spicy aroma.Better than average farmhouse.

Single finger head with scattered lacing on a murky gold with a brownish tint body. Clove, Belgian yeast, citrus and herbs for the aroma. Flavor also has a strong belgian yeast presence, cola, lemon/ orange citrus, black peppercorn zest and herbal finish. Lighter side of medium body and moderate to high carbonation. A very nice saison. The Belgian character is well represented with complex supporting flavors.

On tap at Max's.

The beer pours a hazy light gold color with good head retention and lacing. The beer is pretty aromatic, as I pick up light clove, sandlewood, a hint of nutmeg and even evergreen. Given the nose, I was expecting something pretty exotic on the palate, but the flavor profile is a complete let down. The beer comes across as a fairly standard wheat beer, but with some additional light spice. There's really not much to it. Mouthfeel is is fairly light and thin, with a fairly clean finish.

Mehhhh.... nothing wrong with this beer, but by the same token, I really can't see any reason to ever order this again.

On-tap at Beachwood Brewing

The beer is a clear golden color with a large white head and vigorous carbonation. The aroma is very spicy with a lot of pepper notes, a touch herbal (juniper?), and there is a decent amount of bread. Hints of yeast and fruit esters as well. The flavor is a touch less impressive than the nose. Nice herbal and spice components, but a bit too fizzy which takes away from the malt character.

Served on-tap at Spuyten Duyvel in NYC.

Appearance is a cloudy dark yellow color with a small amount of white lacing. The nose on this saison has bread, cloves, some grass. Sipping on this nice looking beer and I taste lemon, honey, bread, light hops and a small amount of spice. The mouthfeel is medium level, with a low level of carbonation to go with it. Overall, a nice saison from Stillwater...again.

On tap at Beachwood BBQ & Brewing in Long Beach, CA.

Pours a clear yellow with a foamy bone colored head that settles to small wisps on top of the beer. Tiny dots of lace slowly drip into the remaining beer on the drink down. Smell is of malt, grain, yeast, honey, light fruits, and some spice aromas. Taste is much the same with a mild spice bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer but I think it tastes better than it smells.

On Tap at Boilermaker. In a tulip glass.

Kopstootje glides in the glass a very faint golden color with some straw yellow mixed within the liquid. The nice white head looks pretty and foamy and soapy and bright, leaving skids on the sides. Smell is pretty light and not too pungent. Typical saison scent with some earthy grass, faint fruit with minimal yeast in the aroma. Not really picking up the juniper here. Some apple and pear arise with warming with faint lemon. This is just what i needed, a simple take on a saison with some minor tweaks. I basically get all the saison flavors with some light spices, this one goes on the fruity side a bit yet nothing too much, not enough to strip the saison. Feel is very light with a nice bitterness towards the end that ends quick. This one comes and goes, and it went quick. Carb is there off the tap, but not bitey. I need to do this drink up the proper way next time I order it up.

Pours a hazy golden straw with thin cap of prickly white bubbles. Scent leads with a musty and earthy grain, light spice and finishes with herbal and fruity notes. Taste gives a quick shot of fruity gin (as opposed to dry) and blends quickly with musty and earthy grain, light breadyness and spice on the back end. Medium bodied, carbonation a splash low for style. A uniquely refreshing saision with some character.
