Appearance- Pours up some head which has okay retention. The head is a fluffy, pure cotton white while the body is a dull and pale straw with hints of lemon which looks weaker when held up to the light. A good amount of lacing has already been left behind.

Nose- Subtle but intriguing. Very Belgian with notes of apple and banana and spice from the yeast. A touch of cloves and even small hint of peaches and melon. Some lemon, coriander, and grapefruit. You have to work for the aroma but a lot of nice, fruity esters are there.

Taste- Starts off with a lot more presence than the nose. Many of the fruity esters of the nose (orange, lemon, banana, apple, and grapefruit) followed by a big wallop of Belgian yeast, coriander, and cloves. A hint of bandaid as well. The cloves and coriander combined with the yeast leave a slight tingle with the dry finish. Some lightly sour fruit that I can't quite define- pineapple maybe? A slight astringency that works well and seems to suggest a slight funkiness. It seems Stillwater has got something here with their Golden Belgian Ale. I think this is definitely better than Duvel as it seems to straddle the line between a Tripel and a BSPA. Light and airy with mimosa like qualities. The clove is very well rounded and even gives there a slight ash taste to the flavor profile. This beer is a success in regard to complexity, presence, and balance. Very good beer that is almost great.

Mouthfeel- Light bodied with excellent carbonation, a nice, crispy dry finish, and a slight tingle on the tongue.

Drinkability- Very accessible and very interesting. Plus the price is right. Can't beat 3 bucks a bottle for well done BPSA.

Overall- A little surprised. I find a lot of Belgian golden ales are technically good but still not enjoyable. This is both. It may not be Damnation but it is definitely worth a try. I will be buying this again.

A - Super light golden straw pilsner look with a nice full finger worth of off-white head also a good amount of carbonation streaming from the bottom. Nice temporary lacing which you would expect for the high amount of alcohol in this.

S - Lots of those Belgian confectionery bready characters with a hint of that Saison funk which really helps to elevate this. Hints of Banana and clove are present but not overpowering. Nice smelling beer although I could do with more variance or a stronger smell.

T - Tight Belgian yeast with those big bready notes following the nose very nicely. Nice summertime fruit sweetness and clove round themselves into that big farmhouse funk that really gives this incredible drinkability.

M - Medium bodied with the effervescence in the carbonation giving this a very subdued tongue tingle. Sweet but not cloying and bready without being chewy. This is where this beer shines bright.

O - Wow I have never had anything from Still Water before today and I can say as someone who has tried their share of farmhouse beers in the midwest this beer really knows how to represent that huge saison taste. This is a great beer and something that is definitely 4-pack worthy at the very least.

Pours hazed and the color of golden straw. Just a finger of perfectly white foam that fell fast and left a thin ring and film on top. Nose is abundant with fruit like lemon, orange and stone fruits like apricot. It's tart and has a little earth to it. The malt is light as feather on the nose and there is a hop floral and that sweet dry middle that you associate with dry pales or with IPA's only more subtle of course. Taste greats you with deeply juicy stone fruit quality and dry lemon grass over a light cracker. The orange is so juicy and there is some spice from hops and grass, even a little pepper. There is a hint at bitter but nothing too strong and the aftertaste lingers with all those flavors combined. Not a hint of the 9% abv in the drink. Ample carbonation and a mouthfeel that's a touch sticky with all that sweet fruit.

Fabulous and understated.

Bottled 6/28/13.

Pours a hazy yellow with a foamy white head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Thin streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Small particles of sediment are seen floating in the beer after the pour. Smell is of malt, grain, yeast, and citrus and pineapple-like aromas. Taste is much the same with grain, yeast, and fruity flavors on the finish. I am not sure if there is Brett in this one, but it does have a similar aspect in the taste. There is a mild amount of hop and yeast bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer that has some really nice aromas and flavors that make it super easy to drink.
