Rolled bottle before pouring to stir up yeast. Poured into a Sam Adams Perfect Pint glass.

A - Yellow and milky white appearance from the yeast. Low, white head that quickly falls. I would like to see the big, pillowy head of a beer like Franziskaner.

S - Bananas, lemon, cloves, up front. Mild bready malt aroma with no hops apparent in nose. Everything is balanced very well, which I don't see very often. Very inviting.

T - Very bready with a sweet malt flavor. Loads of banana and cloves in excellent balance with each other and the malt. Low bitterness that lingers well after the other flavors have dissipated. Light vanilla pops up as the beer warms.

M - Meduim to light body with strong carbonation. Pleasantly dry and refreshing. Would prefer a little more body to the beer.

D - One of the best American made hefeweizens I have ever had. A good balance in the esters and phenols, which doesn't happen very often. An excellent beer for a hot summer day.

Unit 6 American Hefeweizen

A: Pale straw in color, slightly hazy, with a large fluffy white head.

S: Not a lot of the banana or clove that I would regularly associate with this style. Some light spice notes, and a touch of fruitiness to it. A touch of a yeasty character, as well as a bit of touch of a lager like fruit esther.

T: Very light in flavor. There is a bit of a grainy flavor, and some American hop flavors. Seems a touch watery, and lacking character. There is little bit of a tart bite in the finish, perhaps it is the CO2.

M: Light, somewhat dry, with high carbonation.

O: Overall this is a bit of a miss for me. It tastes, and feels a little bland for me, it seems very lager like in smell and taste, and I think the american hops are to subtle.

Wondering if there was a recipe change.. recent reviews and older ones seem to differ pretty greatly. Wonder if there was a change in the recipe with a change in the label.

This one pours a very light straw yellow in color, very clear until the sediment from the bottom leaves in its final pour. The aromas consist of pale malt, some citrus, light spice, and light yeast. It's average. It tastes of slightly sweet malts with light yeast and possibly a light citrus zest. It's pretty lackluster and finishes too quickly. It isn't as bold as it should be. It is pretty light in body and doesn't look very good in a glass. It drinks light and doesn't leave you wanting more. This one appears to be more of an American wheat than a hefe. I wouldn't recommend trying this one if you're comparing it to real hefes.

Bought from local supermarket, Biggs. 6pk @ $8.99.

Lighter in color than Blue Moon with a cloud of yeast. Turned the bottle over and swirled up the yeast settlment then enjoyed in a Sam Adams Perfect Beer Glass with a slice of lemon (per the brewer's suggestion).

This is the type of beer I could drink all day if it didnt get me drunk. Light, easy to drink, spring/summer notes of citrus, vanilla maybe, and corriander. I enjoy this beer COLD but the warmer it gets the flavor notes that come out.

Anyone want to trade this, let me know.

A- Slightly hazy straw yellow color. Large white foam that leaves decent lacing.

S- Very musty aroma with some lemon and funk. A bit odd...

T- Flavor is slightly tart with some lemon and banana coming through. Acidic finish with little spice or bread to speak of.

M- Light bodied with ok carbonation.

O- I'm not sure if I got a bad bottle. Tastes like this one might have had bit of Brett thrown in. Definitely more sour than the average hefe.

Appearance - cloudy banana yellow pour, two finger of beer, eight fingers of white, snowy foam. Wow. Makes a pillowy head as I force enough beer in to swell the foam over the top of the glass. Plenty of chunky, dotted lace as the head begins to fall (but I just pours in more beer when that happens). excellent start but I wouldn't mind maybe 10% less foam - I'm thirsty!

Aroma - lots of clove and banana, very aromatic.

Taste - lemony side to the malts at the fore. Plenty of yeast flavor, the clove and banana are simplistically delicious. Swallows evenly, ends juicy, thirst-quenching, I love it. It lacks the depth of flavor profile but this is one fine hefe.

Mouthfeel - good smoothness and crisp but soft-feeling carbonation has this beer going fast. A little thin but it isn't exactly supposed to be 30-weight.

Drinkability - excellent. Another one that should attend Zinzinnati OFest.

This beer was served in a Weizen glass.

Appearance: This is a good looking Hefe. The body of the beer has a delicious hazy yellow coloration. The head is pillowy approximately an inch. Good head retention and plenty of rings left on my glass.

Smell: Banana and lemon whaft up from my glass. A bit of cloves round off the aroma. Well done.

Taste: The flavors of the beer are similar to taking a spicy (cloves) banana bread and dunking lightly in lemon. Not bad at all. Watch the temp on this beer as it really doesnt taste nearly as good icy cold.

Mouthfeel / Drinkability: The body of the beer is light but not watery. The carbonation levels work well with the beer. This is definately a throw back hefe. The beer is good and the price mark is good. This will be a reaccuring beer at my house.

Cloudy very pale yellow/piss. With a inch foamy white head that fades quickly into a thick mushroom top. Very unfiltered. Nice.

Great nose on this hefe. Full of spicy clove, bubblegum, yeast, light banana, asphalt, and some green vegetables, with some floral hops. Smells fantastic.

A little less excitement in the mouth but still a very solid, ballsy hefe. Thick wheat character creamy and smooth, with clove flavors dominating the middle. Earthy hops chime in with hints of bubble gum. Than deep in the finish ripe banana creme lingers and finishes very dry and yeasty with some carbonation zip. Again some green vegetables, and even whole grain mustard flavors in the finish. Love the texture of this though. Makes me feel like I'm not drinking a hefe. Which by BJCP standard would hurt.

Eye- Light cloudy yellow. 2 finger bubbly head. Laces the glass.

Nose-Bready,some yeasts,fruits a bit spicy....and yep,a trace of banana.

Taste Whoa...banana bread shifts int a lemon-tangrine finish. The kiddies would enjoy this, plop a few marshmallows in it....
Rather nice version of a style I tend to pass by. There's 6" of snow today, and this seems more a summertime beer.

Mouthfeel- Pretty light, sparkly. This is no robust truck driver beer, but it's built to be drinkable, cold, refreshing, and it does all that. Thre's enough lurking "beerish" flavors that it isn't too fruit loops. It manages to be interesting if light, has a bit of complexity going, unlike some Hefes

Drinkability Pretty good. I could see this as a winner at a picnic in July....kind words from a guy who sees Storm King as a perfect July picnic beer.

This is called "Unit 6" and billed as an "American Hefeweizen." I assume it's the same beer.

A - slightly cloudy yellow, not much white head to speak of. I can understand calling it piss colored.

S - some clove, banana, vanilla, but there's that terrible sweet thing going on too that seems to be in all or most of RT's beers. Some cooked vegetables.

T - Not too bad. A little bit bitter/dry, some light malty notes, a touch of citrus. This is ok.

M - Thin...uneventful

O - Well this is another miss from Rivertown. I feel like Cincinnati should be making better beers... Oh well. This beer is best summed up by something on its own label: "A Mysterious new twist on an old classic." 'Nough said

Poured from the bottle into a pint glass, beer is a hazy, orange-banana milkshake color with a creamy white head. The nose is of sweet/spicy phenols, cloves dominate with doughy yeast and citrus-banana rounding out the smell. The flavor however, leans to the other side of the spectrum and is much more banana focused with the spicy clove taste being much more subdued. Very fruity - banana with some light citrus notes make this sweet yet very refreshing. Mouthfeel is medium to full in body with a creamy, velvet smooth carbonation. Very drinkable hefe, well done all around. This one could rival some of the better German hefes I've had.

Poured into my Sam Adams pint glass this beer is a hazy yellow/orange with a massive white fluffy head. Looks right on for the style. The smell is mostly tart lemon with a hint of wheat. At first the taste is all banana-flavored bubblegum. That subsides with following drinks and the lemony flavor comes out a little more. This is pretty carbonated but it fits for warm-weather drinking. I'm not usually a big fan of hefe's and this doesn't really change my mind but it's a solid example of the style.

Pours a cloudy unfiltered golden color with a thick topping of cloud like white thick head.
Smell is very zesty-with a solid wheat some light fruit.
Taste is lightly spiced - wheaty with a banana bread quality.
Finish is wet with a lightly wheaty after-taste with a light malt that last well.
Drinks well-highly refreshing with a zesty spice to perk you up.
