From BeerAdvocate magazine Issue #77 (June 2013):

LOOK: Opaque, black, decent lacing

SMELL: Heavy vanilla, coffee grounds, earthy, roasted grain, sweet nose, alcohol

TASTE: Sweet, full bodied, assertive vanilla, burnt sugar, cowboy coffee, faint black cherries, brown malt, toasty graininess, mild charcoal, mild esters, feigned sweet finish

A big brew, but not really robust. The flavorings noted are there, but nothing really pops; they do, however, still work well enough without taking away from the fact that this is a Porter. Give it a try—a beer to share, or perhaps it will grow on you … a big Porter with no bite.

Aroma of vanilla very prominent. Creamy tan colored head that lasts. Amazing flavor of coffee and vanilla with a very smooth mouth feel from the nitro tap. Vanilla not as strong in flavor as some vanilla portets I have had. Bottle was okay by the nitro takes it to another level. Done in a great porter fashion.

Poured from 12 oz bottle into tulip.

A: Motor oil black with one finger head that disappeared fairly quickly to a thin ring and left little to no lacing.

S: Mostly vanilla and roasted malts. Maybe a hint of chocolate and coffee.

T: Again the vanilla is the star of the show. Some roasted malts, light chocolate, and faint coffee.

M: Medium body and pleasant slightly sweet finish.

O: Decent and easy drinking porter but I wish there was more depth to flavor and aroma, and I wanted the coffee to be more prominent.

Nitro at Wino's in Bowling Green.

A - Deep brown, nearly black, great Nitro head.

S - Fairly muted dark malts and coffee with a sweet hint.

T - Creamy coffee, vanilla and chocolate all blend smoothly together. The nitro really helps lift the creaminess throughout.

M - Well, the light porter body is evident, but the nitro gives a lot of nice fullness to bring it up.

O - Really a nice porter. I'd be interested to see how good the flavors blends with a different gas blend or out of a bottle. As it stands, this is one of the best porters I've ever had, flying right under the radar. Could be the nitro though.

Considering the not so great reviews I was fairly impressed with this beer. I would revisit this beer for sure.

Pours a brownish black without much of a head. Smells of vanilla, molasses, coffee, and some chcoloate. Smells really sweet. Taste follows suit. Opens up with chocolate flavors that move to a vanilla and cola flavor. Finishes with a little bit of chocolate and coffee tones. Really sweet all over, which works well if it is treated as a dessert beer. Pretty good overall.

AKA Roebling Porter. On tap at Pachinko's in Main Strausse, Covington KY. It is a dark brown to black beer that pours with no head whatsoever. Not much to the scent either except a faint waft of vanilla. The taste is overwhelming vanilla. Over the course of the pint I can't help but think Vanilla Coke every time I take a drink. The vanilla is really overpowering but hints of chocolate poke through every once and a while. No strong porter or coffee flavors even though that's what the bartender told me to expect. The vanilla flavor is nice at least and not too artificial; it's just really strong and sweet and kind of deteriorates from the drinkability of this. Maybe a 6oz. beer, but a pint is too much. Nice to see a local brewery do something different but this is way too skewed towards the vanilla with barely any other flavors coming through.
