Bottled on October 17, 2008.
Pours a hazy pink-purple color, with a reddish tint. A fizzy pink-purple head is produced, but doesn't last long and doesn't leave any lacing.
Sour cherries, oak, and a bit of musty funk. The oak is much stronger than I though, and in combination with the musty funk, it's almost hard to pick out the cherries. These cherries are incredibly sour and mouthwatering. I know I just said it's hard to pick them out, but the way it blends with the other aromas I'm beginning to think this is perfect.
The taste is to die for. Everything you hope for in a Kriek and more. Starts out with an acidic sour cherry character, which is quickly mellowed by the earthy oak character. Finishes dry with a musty funk, and has an aftertaste of more sour cherries. It's like they scripted this and it's playing out on my palate to perfection. Easily, far and away, the best tasting Kriek (of any kind) I've ever had.
Mouthfeel is thin to medium in body, with a crisp carbonatoin and a sharp acidic bite. Lingering sour cherry and oak aftertaste. Drinkability is fantastic, I can't imagine an easier drinking lambic.
Overall, I was expecting this to be good but not this good. I was floored by this, and if not for the price tag I would buy a lot of this to stock up.
