Post boards celebration! Shared this with my gf.

Brilliant ruby red with a pinkish white head in my mini Duvel tulip. The nose can be smelled across the room. Holy cherries! Tart and juicy. I can't remember having anything this cherry-forward before. Aside from Blabaer, I've never had anything this tart. Sour with just enough Brettanomyces funk in the background. Beautifully crafted. Refreshing body with a sparkle of carbonation. Moar!!

Last night I shared some kick ass beers with an old friend I havent seen in years. I couldnt have thought of a better ocassion to try this incredible beer. We did a side by side tasting of the 2 DF Krieks.

This on pours a clear, bold blood red color with a foamy pink head that lasts a shortwhile then recedes to a thick ring around the glass. Lacing is on the light side. The aroma so replete with fresh, juicy, sour cherries that I almost lost my breath. The rich complex fruit aromas meld with plaenty of funky, earthy, enteric barnyard and a smooth inviting acidity. The taste is a study in fruit lambic perfection. Plenty of supple cherry notes are everywhere, very dry yet still juicy? Old musty oak, woody astringent cherry pits, and unclean horse stable mix with a strong lactic sourness. Leathery, outdoorsy brett is in there somewhere too. The mouthfeel is medium with a pleasant viscous feel. Carbonation is lighter than a lot of lambics, sort of cask like. The finish is long and complex with pleanty of puckering sourness and astringent cherry skin.

This is an archetypal lambic. The best Kriek Ive ever been fortunate enough to try. It does a really great job of balancing sourness and fruit flavor. Usually one dominates, not in this case.

Absolutely stellar stuff and worth the steep $24.99.

Got this bottle the day it was bottled from Armand himself. This beer didn’t re-ferment in the bottle yet. Following Armand’s advice, consume the same evening.
Look: pours a deep dark red color with no head
Smell: Cherries, fresh cherries and cherries. Light tart, some vinigar, oak and yeasy as well.
Taste: follows the nose. Full of fresh cherries, perfectly balanced by the typical 3 fonteinen funky sourness and wooden tones of the beer.
Mouthfeel: medium body and very low carbonation
Overall: Unique to try, significantly different from the bottled and re-fermented one! This is like a lambic with fresh cherries juice. I had world class fruit beers before (hommage, framboos, fou foune, blabaer) but this must be the best fruit taste I ever had. Pure juice, amazing!

Had the pleasure of drinking this side by side with an Hommage. I have had the Hommage once before, but to enjoy both simultaneously was a rare treat. I have to give it big to Terry (pintplease) for hosting us for a beyond classy birthday party at Portland's The BeerMongers. BAs were' provided with $8 worth of credit to spend during the party, so a bunch of us pooled our credit to get a bottle of this Kriek. I wouldn't of been drinking it if weren't for that.

The beer poured vibrant, neon pinkish/red with a head that seemed to dissipate immediately. What was left was a beverage that didn't look all that different to cranberry juice. The high bacteria yeasts were so prominent in this. Puckerheads need only apply to this one. Aroma of horse butt, vinegar, barnyard funk, you name it.

Tasted of mild fruit. But mostly tart and acidic with some overly sweet tones. Brett all over here with an oaky woodiness to. Just over the top funkiness that really cradled the sweet, fruit juice flavors.

A: pours the same color as a young red wine with little lacing or head.

S: strong Brett aroma with lemon zest and some other bacterial funk.

F: quite sour with a strong dryness. Some tannin from the cherries make it through, but no fresh cherry flavor.

M: thin body with little carbonation and a touch of astringency

D: quite nice overall. Much better than the other, overly sweet krieks that are widely available.

A: A somewhat hazy deep red and amber color, the head is kind of small, but its got a thin ring of lace around the glass, and stay throughout my sipping...

S: A very very good oak character, not an overpowering bit of oak, but smooth, and mellow, then the Kriek or cherry smell comes in, this isn't artificial at all, and you can tell. It finishes semi-tart in the nose, quite enticing for the taste...

T: What a beer, sour sour cherry flavor, tHe cherry is real, and reminds you of ripe red cherries, just overwhelming! Oak fills out the flavor as it leaves your mouth somewhat pucker but also looking for more...

M: This is perfectly carbonated, perfectly bodied, and begs to be had in moderation...

D: A great sour pucker!

Pours the most brilliant bright red you could imagine with a small but tight pink head. The aroma is dirty laundry and dirty barnyard with some animal waste and hay in there for sure. There is plenty of intense cherry sourness in there throughout. The flavor is dominated by a strong sourness and lots of tart cherries. The beer is earthy and complex with light leathery notes and a very complimentary nuttiness. The palate is both full and well carbonated like a sparkling wine. Magnificent, an absolute masterpiece.

Poured from a bottle into a CCB snifter

A- pours a dark purplish/red. No head at all. Yay for lambic!

S- the aroma is a huge blast of cherries, almost suffocating me. It's amazing

T- the cherry flavor I'm getting out of this is intense, coming off both sweet and sour at the same time

M- body is rather thin, as most lambics are

O- this is fantastic. If only it cost less than $35 a bottle....

Release 2005. Great presentation with beautifull red collored beer tiny pink head. Nose is magnificent too giving lots of cherrie carracter, cheese of aged hops and some of the finest funky geuzeaccents I've ever expierienced. Great sourness and slight oak note on a leather sadle there to complete this perfect nose. Taste is extraordinary also having finest sour cherrie, great dry carracter overal with good bretty horsesweat bathing is sour, slightly noticable alcoholic wheatymaltjuice. Yes this is something extraordinary fine. Maybe litle souredy and not 100% mellowed down but guess this one could rise to a 5 by a year of what age.

Chose this baby as my special birthday beer and boy did it not disappoint! Aside from the awesomeness that is this beer, I think the highlights of drinking it were my parents each take a sip and watching their faces scrunch up in horror as to what they just drank. My dad proclaimed "that is NOT beer." Too funny ... Poured from a 750ml bottle dated October 17, 2008 into a champagne flute.

A: Pours a hazy deep pinkish purple with almost no head that fades to a patchy layer on top.

S: Tart, tart, tart. The acidity just hits the nose with a pungency that is just intoxicating. Some whiffs of vanilla and a light funk lingering in the background.

T: This is so worth the money I spent on this beer! Tart than slightly swet than tart. Heaven in a bottle. The oak comes through with a nice little spice and note of vanilla. The cherries contribute their tartness and add a beautiful depth of flavor.

M: Beautiful carbonation that feels crisp and tingly on the tongue. Nicely tart that if drank quickly could lead to the violated tastebud feeling but why would you drink this quickly?

D: Just wow, I'm blown away by this beer. It's tart and tingly and just absolutely amazing. I could drink this forever.

I have to give Drie Fonteinen Schaerbeekse Kriek a super uber nom noms! :D

Huge thanks to Andy for sharing this one with me! Poured into a chalice. Bright deep red on this one with no head. Some tiny bubbles shoot up the body of this one.

Pretty straight forward aroma here. Nice tart cherry aroma here with a nice cellar must to it. Really a well done balance of tart and sweet here. Mellow cherry flavors with a sweet flavor and tart finish. Really dry cherry skin flavor with a bit of vanilla and oak.

The feel is this is great. Perfectly light body with soft carbonation. When it comes down ot it I really wonder if it gets better than this. A real treat here.

I got this bottle in a trade with joe1510. Thanks Joe!

Pours from 750ml black foil wrapped and caged and corked bottle(bottled March 22 2006) a hazy red with a 1 finger head of foam. Lots of nice lacing and I'm guessing that the head retention will be good.

The smell, which I noticed the very second that I popped to cork, is an explosion of sour cherries and spices with a side order of some yeast and earth. Love that nose!

The taste....ahhh! Big sour cherry notes with an ample and welcomed clove flavour, some earthy tones, more spices..the flavours never seem to end and man, what a joy to drink! I better slow down though so I can savour every drop. Yep, it's *that* good.

Nice medium mouthfeel with just the right amount of carbonation, it finishes with a super sour kick mixed with some more spice. Love it!

Bottom line: This is a great brew and, from my point of view, that's all I need to say. ;^)

Bottle dated early 2005. Drunk as a celebratory bottle for my graduation from college, and there couldn't have been a better pick.

Pours an amazing looking deep, muddy ruby color with a tiny bit of head only coming out when poured super aggressively. What little head is there dissipates to a white ring that lasts for a long time. No lacing.

The aroma is made up of mountains of sour cherries. Real, natural cherries that makes this beer seem distinctly superior to the sweetened or syruped ones it shares a shelf with. A nice woody, earthy scent is detected as well, like a wet log in a forest after it rains. This scent is understated, though, and melds extremely well with the cherries.

Taste is incredible as well. Sour, but not overly so by any means, and incredibly dry. Cherries are obviously the star, but there is some nice spicy, lemony, earthy notes as well. Slightly tannic and vinuous. I think what makes this kriek so great is that the variety of flavors here come together so seamlessly that it can be easy to forget that so much is going on. Pay attention.

I was a little worried the mouthfeel on this one would be syrupy or too slick due to the visually low carbonation, but it wasn't. The tiny bubbles are plentiful and make for a nice, fizzy, effervescent feeling on your tongue that is just perfect. Medium bodied, with a dry finish.

I could drink this pretty much indefinitely I think, but this is one you'll want to take your time with. An all-around spectacular beer that really blew me away.

Almost definitely the best kriek I've ever had, and probably the best lambic as well.

Bottle

Best Damn Sour Fest
Bootlegger
San Diego, CA

Dark ruby and red with pink edges and a thin pink head. Leaves small spots and thin webs of lacing down the glass.

An incredible combination consisting of incredibly powerful, stinging sourness, plump and juicy cherries, and earthy oak. Everything is in balance yet powerful, all at once. Perfect.

The flavor too is just phenomenal. The cherries are vibrant and tart, the sourness is consistent and strong from sip to swallow. This is lip puckering stuff here! Phenomenal.

Medium bodied with high carbonation.

A truly special beer. One of my favorites.

750ml bottle, poured into wine glasses. Bottling date 1 march 2005, "good for at least ten years after bottling date"

Beautiful bright raspberry color, soft carbonation, no head retention. Intense sour cherry aroma, intoxicating.

Light fresh tart, fizzy in the mouth, so succulent, so tangy, such a classic dry lambic with pure, delicious expression of fruit; no sweetness to speak of. Initial sharpness softens and mellows as this amazing creation changes and develops in the glass. A treat. Had this once before at Hop Devil Grill in Manhattan; compares very favorably with Cantillon Kriek. One of those brews that will beguile beer and wine drinkers alike.
