Pours with a white head that settles into a thin film atop the brilliant, clear, bright orangy golden geuze.
Delicious 3F funk hits the nose first. Lemon zest and bitter pith, general sourness, and slight citric sweetness round out the aroma.
Sourness is first up, lemon juice and straight up lactic. Very restrained funk for a 3F beer of this age. Mild earthiness and damp oak and cellar. Slight cheesiness and earthy mushroom come out as it warms. Distinct, perhaps uncured olive, bitterness hangs around for quite a while. Grassy herbal notes also arise.
Wonderful mouthfeel. Full but not spritzy carbonation. Damp, drying, oaky tannins linge long after the sip.
A very restrained geuze from 3 Fonteinen. While it doesn't beat you over the head with brash or complex funk and sourness, it achieves a beautiful balance that makes it a real pleasure to drink.

Bottle poured into a 3F stem. Enjoyed 12/7/2013. Thanks rfraga7!
Pour is a deep orange, with two fingers of off white, frothy head. Head retains for a while, and leaves some nice lacing. Smell is incredible, and easily the highlight of this beer - bright, juicy tropical fruits (mango, papaya), some lemony bite, and wrapped up in a clean, musty funk (cobwebs, basement, some hay). Taste is impressive, but not as much so as the nose. More tropical fruits that are slightly subdued. A nice lemony bite, and a delicious mineral funk. Finish develops this floral, grassy, perfume aspect that is enjoyable, but mildly offputting. Quite drinkable, with a medium level of sourness. Finish is dry. A top notch geuze that was a pleasure to have, but falls short of Blauw but quite a bit.
