Enjoyed out of a green 750 mL bottle with a cork & cage topper and a bottling date marked on the back label of Jun 26th, 2013. Poured into a Boulevard Smokestack Series tulip glass.

Appearance - Gentle pour so as not to disturb the sediment and yeast likely coating the bottom of the bottle still yields a fluffy pink head with ample pocking and foamy mountains and valleys. Beneath the foam lies a beautiful lava red body that is just slightly hazy, with ruby-like shading giving it a jewel-like effect. The head dissipates after a few minutes, leaving just sparse, spotty lacing.

Smell - There is a fantastically pungent oaky, wood characteristic emanating from this beer. I don't think I've ever smelled a woody smell that was quite so intoxicating and wonderful. Alongside the oak tannins are the acidic fruity notes of ripe raspberries and sour cherries punctuating the amazing barrel characteristics. There's an underlying tartness that I expect to blow me away when I take my first drink.

Taste - As expected, there is mouth-puckering sourness and acidity that rides on on the bed of the raspberries and cherries along with a nicely contrasting vinous quality from the barrels. Oak tannins and musty funk are present as well with the fruity sweet and sour characteristics.

Mouthfeel - Light bodied and moderate carbonation, with a high level of mouth puckering and an arid dry finish that leaves your tastebuds longing for another sip.

Overall, this is quite possibly the second best fruit lambic I've ever enjoyed, behind only Cantillon's Fou' Foune. They are hard to compare to one another due to the different fruits utilized, but this one is outstanding, with aggressive notes of oak and funk alongside a fantastically ripe raspberry element. It's too bad this bottle costs so much and is only produced ever several years, because it is truly amazing.

Just a gorgeous raspberry red color enters the glass with an effervescent head of red tinted foam.

The nose is rather earthy, minerally and gravel like. I smell raspberry fruit roll ups and a malty underpinning.

The flavor is strongly tart, sour and a bit waxy. Sugary raspberry flavor mixed with sour cherry this has an earthy mineral flavor.

The feel is sprite, light, bubbly and carbonated but not too sharp.

A friend bought a bottle (Batch 2) for us to split because of all the great things that we had read about it. Wow was i disappointed with this beer from start to finish.

The color was a nice hued red which invites a test fully expecting the raspberries and cherries. I struggled to find any raspberry in the flavor instead i was overwhelmed with a very artificial tasting cherry which left a bad aftertaste. It was syrup taste instead of a fresh bitter cherry flavor and i expected more of a natural flavor, especially for the price point.

I am a fan of Lambic's but nothing about this beer worked for me.

2013 bottle poured at the Tipples Rare and Barrel Aged Beer Tasting on July 13, 2014. Pours a dark reddish amber color with a creamy white rim of head on top. Aroma is very funky barnyard, hay, dry dusty oak, and bandaids. Uh oh. Flavor follows with big time bandaid flavors--just like my first bad Fantome--some dry oakiness, and a bit of sour cherries in there. No evidence of raspberries whatsoever, unfortunately. Very dry body, medium plus carbonation, and light plus mouthfeel.

Well, this was awfully disappointing. I assume this was a bad bottle. They had 4 of them there, but I only got a pour from one. No way this is what this beer is supposed to taste like. I'll have to revisit this one again if I can ever find it.
