258th Review
On draft - served in a small 3F glass

Enjoyed at the Drie Fonteinen Restaurant in Beersel (early June 2012).

A: Deep burgundy. 1.5 (off-pink) fingernail head.

S: Smells of tart cherry, funk, and mild sweetness.

T: Dark cherry juice with light hint of sweetness and oak. Lively tartness and uber refreshing. Acidity and must/funk is well balanced.

M: Light/medium bodied with soft carbonation.

O: Very drinkable and quite fun to try (straight from the source)!

A minimal bubbly white head quickly fizzles out a thin ring over a thoroughly suspended brick red haze.

Fairly acidic and lighter in body than I'd prefer, in part due to its minimal carbonation, it still handily features piles of lightly cinnamon-spiced sour cherry with a hint of candied gooeyness in the finish. The nose adds a light char and oak, but it's entirely funkless, surprisingly.

Bottle, blend 15 20-21 season.

A clear cherry red with no head, this pours very lightly carbonated. The nose is pure cherry pie with cinnamon and almond pit, a moderate lactic acidity, mild lemon, preserved lemon and some earthy funk. The palate opens tart with lactic sharpness, earthy, leathery funk, both of which complement the bright cherry notes. Tart cherries, sour and quite acidic. Notes of cinnamon and apple pie follow. Tart, sharp, lactic acidity on the finish, along with moderatepreserved lemon. Acidity is at the upper end of my tolerance.

375 ml. bottle.
Bottle Date 24May17
Best Before 26Oct37.

Moderate pour yields a 5/8 inch light pink head over a dark pinkish-purple body with scant lacing.

Nose of cherries, oak, and a bit of funk.

Taste follows nose closely with sweet (and then quickly tart) lemon flavors coming forward.
Oak and funk take a back seat to sour into a nice, dry finish.
Very nice!

Mouthfeel is a pleasant surprise as back label reads:
"bottle fermentation did not happen though... Still, unfiltered and unpasteurised."

Overall, another delicious offering from 3F.
Cheers!

375 ml corked & caged bottle, as 3 Fonteinen Oude Kriekenlambik, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 5.4%. Deep red to purple colour, moderate pink head. Aroma of sour cherries, cherry kernels, almonds and marzipan, hints of horse stable. Medium sour flavour of cherries, slightly dry, hints of cherry kernels.

A 6.6% abv version (unlike the listing.) I love the smell first off. You get the funk and cherry on the nose and it mirrors the taste closely. The color is a dirty dark red. I love the dry finish. I haven't had a regular kriek in awhile, so I can't compare it very well in this review, but I think this has more funk and complexity than a regular easy to find version. A wonderful beer and worth seeking out.

A 375ml corked and caged bottle, blend n°32, season 16/17, bottled on 24th May 2017, with a best before date of 26th October 2037. Poured into a 3 Fonteinen stemmed glass.

Appearance: A deep ruby reddish purple colour with a thin pinkish head that dissipated quickly and left only sparse to no lacing.

Aroma: Tart, cherry, jammy, vanilla, cherry pie, with hints of marzipan.

Taste: Light sourness, tart, cherry, oak, with a touch of lemon juice.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Overall: Nice and enjoyable cherry notes, especially in the aroma which were dessert like and jammy. I think I’m leaning towards preferring more carbonation though.
