12 oz. corked and caged bottle poured into chalice. Feb 2008 on the label, drank it last night.
So this is my first gueuze, both drinking and reviewing, so I have nothing to base this on other than taste and reading about the style, as I've decided to take the sour plunge.
(A)- Bright orange with bone white head with great retention. Some lacing.
(S)- As stated before, this is my first go, and I've heard/read about this barnyard funk aroma. I do not pick this up, but rather a bright, acidic fruity aroma. Smells great!
(T)- Very tart right up front, obviously no malt or hops, so text book to style (at least from what I've read). I'm surprised at myself how much I like this beer, I'm a hop head, but this is totally different in a great way. Very refreshing. Since I'm not accustomed to the style, I pretty much taste sour, and it is good.
(M)- Great mouth feel, light, well carbonated.
(D)- Highly drinkable, it is a shame that Brouwerij Drie Fonteinen is now defunct due to their catastrophe. I do not use that word lightly, but it is, since this will no longer be available. Need to stock up ASAP!
