12.7 oz - Bottle Nov 18, 2010 – poured into a tulip
The cork shot to the ceiling before I finish twisting the cage off! Scared the crap out of me. Had to take a quick breather. Ok, on to the beer…
Appearance- Vibrant golden orange color, with a large bubbly white head. Violently fizzles out to a collar. This beer means business!
Smell- Lemon and leather (I feel I say this a lot). A nice dank, musty, earthiness. Damp hay and some barnyard. Very pleasant.
Taste- Tart lemon, grapefruit, slight apple cider, grape, subtle orange even. Nice complex fruit notes with hints of creamy cheese. Lots of wet hay, barnyard, musty basement, and earth towards the finish. A slight hint of oak and vanilla from the casks. Excellent funk overall, and not bracingly sour. Great complexity as the flavors play off of each other perfectly.
Mouthfeel- Medium light body, somewhat spritzy carbonation, and still fairly creamy. Nearly a bone dry finish.
Overall- I have reviewed this Cantillon and Girardin all to the exact same score. Subtle differences amongst all three, but they are all excellent in their own right. You cant go wrong with either of them.
