Man this was outstanding. Delicious sour. In fact, this is probably the single most delicious sour I have had. Nice funk mixed with perfect amount if tart, sour, lemon, citrus. Feel is also really on point. Yum!

Pours a deep rich honey gold. With white head. Some cheese funk, red pepper spice, and cidery aroma. A little sweet red peppers up front, some mild apple cider character, some sour/tart hay. It's not too harsh or acidic. It's a touch citrusy. Actually, very pleasant to drink in that it's a little light. In some ways, it reminds me of a less harsh Iris. It's a little thin too. There's a faint bitterness. Lots of things going on. I'm not sure this is my favorite gueuze, but it's still solid.

Amazing beer, the most balanced Gueuze I had so far. Sour but less than some I've had. The mustiness is balanced by the great malt presence. The carbonation is almost perfect with Champagne-like bubbles. A world-class brew.

I picked up a bottle of Drie Fonteinen's Oude Geuze for $23.99 at The Lager Mill. I've been wanting to try this beer for a long time and I'm happy to have the chance to try it, so lets see how it goes. 2015 Vintage. Poured from a green 750ml bottle into a teku.

A- The Label looks nice, it's got a classy look to it and it's a little eye catching. It poured a hazy dark orange color which took on more of a bright orange color when held to the light with just a thin ring of bubbly off white head that quickly faded away and it didn't leave any lacing behind. This is a good looking beer and it's true to style.

S- The aroma starts off with a medium amount of sweetness with a sour sweet tart aroma being the first to show up and it's followed by a nice fruity aroma that's followed by a weird burn rubber like aroma. Up next comes a little bit of an herbal and medicinal like aroma. This beer has a good aroma, but I could go without the weird burnt tire aroma.

T- The taste seems to be similar to the aroma, but it doesn't have the burnt tire aspect this time and it starts off with some sourness being the first to show up and it imparts a lower amount of high sourness with some fruity sweet tart flavors and some funky yeast showing up in the background. Up next comes the malts which impart a little bit of a sweet malt, pale malt, doughy and bready flavor. On the finish there's some lingering sourness with a lingering sour lemon like aftertaste. This is a very nice tasting beer, it's got all the aspects that I expect from the style.

M- Fairly smooth, not too crisp, medium bodied with a lower amount of carbonation. The mouthfeel is good, but I wish it had more carbonation.

Overall I thought this was a very good beer and I thought it was a great example of the style, but there were some parts that made it a little rough around the edges, but when it came to the taste it delivered and that's what matter the most. This beer had nice drinkability, it isn't too acidic and I think one glass would be the perfect amount for me. What I like the most about this beer is the taste, it's very nice and true to style Geuze. What I like the least about this beer is the burn tire aspect in the aroma, it wasn't needed, but at least it didn't show up in the taste. I would buy this beer again, but it isn't something I would stock up and I would recommend ti to anyone who really likes the style. All in all I was happy with this beer, it may have not been exactly what I was expecting, but when it came down it to it the taste was right where it needs to be. This made foe a good first impression of this brewery and I'll be on the look out for more of their beer. I'ts not made favorite example of the style, but it's still pretty nice. Good job guys, this is one tasty beer.

The smell classic gueuze : apple cider, oak, champagne, sour citrus and yeasty. However the taste is a lot more complex than most gueuzes (like, say, Hanssens' gueuze). It's a lot less dry than most gueuzes, a round feel, sweeter. It seriously requires the use of all your tastebuds. Sour apple, lemon, oak, then a nice wheaty taste, more like salty wheat crackers or sticks than bread, with an absolutely unexpected spicy, herbal finish. The one I have is from 2014 hence only 2 years old. So young, and no unpleasant tartness to it. Having this much complexity and elegance in a 5 € beer, I.E. the price of a Scandinavian IPA here in France, is just amazing. And you don't even have to be careful and keep it in the fridge. Cantillon and Drie Fonteinen are real craftsmen and top of the line when it comes to sour beers.

Pulls no punches in the appearance, bright yellow pour, huge 2" white head that has immense retention.

Hits those gueuze notes in the aroma, sour lemon, mild green apple, french oak.

Taste cranks up the sour, mild sweetness barely perceptible beyond the super dry sour and tart notes. Mouthfeel super dry like I said, very minimal oak impressions, more citrus coming in all the time. Can often be different over the years, but never bad, always great, sometimes just different, always astringent and highly carbonated.

Bottled March 2015, drank feb 2016. Poured from bottle, ZERO carbonation. now im not a carbonation whore, i know things like this happen, so im not taking a ton of points off. Others were more dissapointed.

Flat but amazingly delicious. Perfect geuze flavor with alot of oak. I mean this is what it should be, just sad it was flatter than road kill

Pours a nice hazy coppery Amber color. Aroma is very sour and you get notes of oak. Flavor is very tart with notes of the oak barrels and a nice fermented flavor. Is so tart it's borderline metallic but not bad. Has a very nice mouthfeel. Overall really good.

3 fonteinen Oude Geuze, bottled 11/03/2015

Pours a vibrant straw-golden color, with an unusual huge head for a Gueuze, which even leaves back thick sheets of lacing after collapsing noisily.

This is just the best smelling Gueuze out there. This is true for its balance, its complexity and its specific house profile on the nose. Lots of apple peel and almost juicy, crisp citrus peel blend into moldy earth, cream cheese, grape skin, and a profound tartness, which provides a sweet, fruity peak. Dried, dusty wood sets the foundation for these aromas, together with a sparkly mineralic quality, creating an intriguing freshness to the otherwise outstandingly funky beer.

Tastes smooth from the beginning, while evolving a bubbly, spritzy carbonation after the swallow, which builds up an astonishing depth of flavors, with a clean, sour, refreshing finish. Drinks very easy, once accustomed to the intense sourness, with a flavor intensity I have never found in another 6 abv beer yet.

Tastes of citrus pulp, apple pith, lemon zest, wet hay and a mineralic quality. As the beer's sourness evolves to an even more pungent state, a balancing, wood bark embraced maltiness comes up, leading the sourness gently over the palate. Herbs, blue cheese, leaves, salty, wet stones and soft wheat enrich the body of the beer, which doubtlessly remains focussed on its world class sourness. Finishes with more wood, spruce, humid earth, fermented apple and a funkiness, which tickles my tongue, leading to a pleasant, clean citrus ending.

While this is never exactly the same beer, you can always be sure to be drinking one of the best beers Belgium has to offer. No additional cellaring required, this is perfect when it gets released. Incredibly complex and well composed, the more you drink it, the more nuances you will discover. Another quality which stands out, the beer pairs really good to a lot of food: moussels, fish and pork will benefit from this big time, while it certainly produces enough taste to be enjoyed on its own.

Pours slightly cloudy brilliant orange straw. Not much head
Big lemon grass and funk. Resinous herb and sharp acidity
More of the same on the palate with soft finish
Medium bodied with less carb than many other Geuze's

overall a lovely beer. balanced, crisp and complex with tons of depth. My favorite 3F to date simply because it is so drinkable and refreshing without sacrificing depth and complexity.

Perhaps the most unique beer I,ve ever had. Light orange in color with a thin effervescent head and medium haziness. Pure funky goodness in the aroma, damp hay, tree bark, shiitake mushroom, lemon, and orange are evident. So much going on in the taste as well, more woodiness and some definite roasted meat qualities as well. The lacto derived tartness is reserved and even, not overly astringent. Fairly high carbonation provides a cleansing feel to a very diverse flavor profile.

Poured from a 750mL bottle into a 3F tumbler glass. Acquired in a trade.

Pours a slightly hazy golden body with a fizzy, effervescent white head that reduces rather quickly but leaves a nice layer of foam. Little lacing.

Aromas are very inviting - hay, funk, tart green apple, lactic acid, white wine, oak, lemon, citrus.

On the tongue it's perfectly balanced for a gueuze, lemony tartness, green apple and white wine, farmhouse funk and hay, light bitterness, and a very dry, nearly astringent finish. Mouthfeel is very refreshing, highly carbonated, and medium-light. Crisp, champagne-like.

Overall a solid beer. Really nice, preferred to some other gueuzes I've had. Benchmark of the style.

Bottle purchased at AJ's Beer Warehouse in Henrietta, NY.

This one pours a straw yellow with orangish tinges, a small head, and just a little bit of lacing.

Smells like lemon, orange, minerals, light country funk, and some mild lactic acid.

The taste is phenomenal and shows one of the best sours I've ever had. Just wow. It's only mildly tart, with tons of other complexities as well- lemon chalky candy flavor, hard minerals, orange citrus, grassy bitterness, and pungent lactic acid. This is unbelievable.

This is medium bodied, crisp and juicy in the mouthfeel, with a huge drink ability.

This is an absolute delight. I am better for having drunk it.

2012 bottling. Clear body, with tiny bubble - pale with a medium sized head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is smooth - sweetness, earthiness, nuanced wood phenols. Taste is crisp and clean, medium high acidity reminiscent of orange and lemon. Taste lingers a bit, but is quite enjoyable. A delicate and delicious brew.

On tap at Oak & Ore.

Yellow-orange with a big dead meat and damp hay musty funk mixed with light fruit aroma. A strict balance between tart and fruity sweet is realized up front but the fantastic tartness wins in the end before slowly sliding into oblivion. Super dry and light in body and you better keep a glass of water handy.

A complex, somewhat punishing yet exceptionally accomplished beer that should be saved and savored for the right occasion.

c&c 375ml bottle dated 10/30/13 (two years today) into a Teku at cellar temp.

Look: just beautiful, a robust orangish yellow that brings to mind a precious stone, with a ridiculous fluffy offwhite head that gradually diminishes.

Smell: smoke, funky cheese, tart exotic fruit, pastries.

Taste: garlic, black pepper, underripe blackberry, hay, light funk.

Feel: pretty light, but somehow really substantial. Perfect carbonation. Eminently drinkable.

Overall: first experience with this style, and I can certainly see the appeal. There's just so much complexity going on here, and I can tell that this would be a totally different beer in another two (or ten) years.

12.7 oz bottle from dec 7, 2012, enjoyed oct 30, 2015. Really wonderful and delicious geuze. Initially quite golden clear and with visible torrents of carbonation, the beer gets a bit murky with yeast and the head dissipates.

S - aroma is fruity and floral, tart grapes and peach, with spring florals and a lime acidity. Crisp and with a strong yeast backing, the malt even comes through, acidity is held in check and it is very balanced and complex.

T - develops with a growing sourness with some fruity malt. Initially it is quite fruity and floral, before the coating sour acidy adds a nice pucker to it, but it is balanced and slides down smoothly as it dries on the finish and aftertaste. Lots of complex intricacies here, it doesnt have a one-dimensional sourness but every sips reveals new elements. Lots of pleasant oaky and earthy notes.

M - initially a high carbonation and quite brisk, creamy in the body and with a balanced acidic feel. Very crisp.

All around this was a complex and tasty geuze which speaks volumes to the talented hands that crafted it. A great example of how complex and great this style can be. Fantastic.

Drank a '15 bottle (375 ml). I enjoyed this gueuze much more than than Tilquin, but definitely not one of the more sour gueuzes I've had. The bottle is only 10 months old so that probably had something to do with it. Im looking forward to seeing what time will do to this. Since I'm impatient, I'll probably just trade for some old bottles...

Most complex yet perfectly balanced Gueze I have ever tried. not too sour like most others and there is also so much more complexities, I never thought a beer could be this good. Perfect just perfect! 4.90

This was just great. Cant say enough about it. Mouth feel was crisp with almost a champagne feel to it but with more substance to it. Nicely sour balanced throughout. I see this as one as a beer that will be tried to be duplicated by US brewers but it will be long while before we get even close to this. Only bad thing is you wont find this everyday on your LBS's shelves.

I found that this Geuze compares very favorably to the other top-notch examples of the style I have experienced thus far. Appearance is typical for a lambic blend, with an earthy, yet at the same time floral aroma. The flavor is alive with dizzying complexity- Lactic acid, tart apple, herbal spices and a oaky aspect. Drie Fonteinen is surely a producer I am going to seek to try many more products from in the near future!

A: Pours a murky amber color with a frothy bone white head. Nice lacing and appears to be well carbonated. Significantly less attractive than Tilquin if I'm going to create a comparison. Nothing here gets my motor running. Dirty pond water thing going on.

S: Then I smell the beer. Big oak nose with bright accents of freshly squeezed grapefruit juice. Motza bread. Musty. Floral notes of C Howard's violet chewing gum. Powdery and floral. The amount of oak and freshly ground black pepper that emerges as this beer warms is amazing. I've never smelled anything quite like it. I can't keep my nose out of the glass.

T: Broad flavor profile ranging from moderately acidic vinegar, to citrus notes of sweet grapefruit and tart lemon juice, followed by earthy notes of walnut and woody oak noted. By far the most complex geueze I've had as it ranges across so many different flavors. Absolutely delightful.

F: Well carbonated and relatively thin.

O: What can I say? I wish this bottle never ended. So much depth of flavor and nose going on.

The beer comes in a hazy amber orange color with a large bubbled large white head.

The aroma immediately has this aggressive funky character of farmyard, some slight stinky sock, with lots of fruit character in dried apricot, lemon peel, white grape peel with a substantial white breadiness in there. Some sesame seed.

The flavor follows with that dried fruit apricot and peach. Tons of juicy white grape character. A lemon tartness throughout with some funky quality of farmyard and hay. Tons of champagne like carbonation that goes throughout. There is also a lingering sesame seed flavor.

In my experience, it goes Cantillon, Hanssens, this, and then Tilquin.

I liked very much the flowery nose with sesame and flex seeds aroma.
A balanced rich taste of green apples, lime skin, wild berries, bread kvass and fermented birch juice.
