Bottled on June 6, 2013.

Pours hazy cranberry red with a thin light pink head that quickly disappears to nothing and leaves no lace.

Smell is of vinegar, tart cherry skin and faint white grape. Solid.

Taste is of tart unripe cherry, sour cranberry and grapes.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied with high carbonation. Bubbly and effervescent.

Fruity, tart and refreshing, this is a delicious cherry lambic that has sparkling wine-like flavors and mouthfeel.

Appearance: Beautiful ruby red. Pink head that dwindled to an off white ring around the glass quickly. Smell: Intensely acidic with cherry and earthy support. Lacking some of the barnyard characteristics. Taste: High acidity. Cherries linger throughout. Again lacking some of the lambic characteristics I want. Too young, maybe? Mouthfeel: Light body. High tart. No astringency. Overall: A wonderful fruit lambic. So very refreshing.

Poured from a bottle dated June, 2013 into a Petrus flute. Clear, deep red color. Very effervescent. It sports a fluffy pink head that is quickly reduced by the acidity, leaving a thin layer of bubbles floating on the surface. I get lots of sour vinegar-like aromas on the nose, but the cherry, which one expects to dominate, is very faint. It's there, but you have to really dig deep to get it. I should like to try this beer when it's young as I'm sure the fruit would be much more pronounced.

The beer has a light body and a very pleasantly sour flavor. The predominant notes on the palate are those of apple cider, champagne, sour cherries, and chardonnay. They all play against each other very nicely, without one dominating and throwing the flavor off-balance. The effervescence really stimulates the palate and intensifies the flavors, but for all its grumpy sourness, this beer is quite easy to drink. All the sourness dries out at the finish in a very appetizing way.

Overall, a very refreshing, pleasant sour beer. I have very little experience with traditional Krieks, so my opinion on this one is probably worth very little right now, but of all the ones I've been fortunate enough to acquire so far, this is clearly the best one. It's not sweetened and it's not unpleasantly sour. I do wish it had more cherry flavor to it, but it's aged so I can't fault it for that. It's pricey, but certainly recommended for any true beer hunter.
