330 ml bottle, Beergium - Pours dark black with a large tanned foamy head. Medium carbonation. Nice lacing. Smell - strong yeasty, fermented fruits, apple. Taste - starts with a tart sour feel then moves quickly into a slight lingering dry malty finish. Very nice seamless taste moving ale which is beautifully balanced. Definitely different.

The thing about this dark beer is that with the lambic yeast, it pretty pretty much wipes out any porter flavor and aroma. So it's a pretty good dark lambic that may have been a porter, but it seems very little like one now.

Coal black with a tan froth.

Smells of dark chocolate and burnt sugar.

Thin and sweet with a hint of chocolate and phenols. Has a bit of dark fruity tartness and grain in the aftertaste.

Nice concept with a nice presentation, but sometimes nice just doesn't cut it.

Aroma is faint roast, chocolate, toffee

Taste is an unusual blend of dark fruit, chocolate liqueur, earthy roast grain, molasses

Mouthfeel is on the thin side for the style

Overall, an interesting brew, but really not as wild as I expected. Not much tartness or funk

Pours a black color. 1/3 inch head of a tan color. Great retention and good lacing. Smells of sweet malt, roasted malt, wood, hint of euro yeast, slight alcohol, strong yeast, slight dark citrus, slight syrup, and slight chocolate. Fits the style of an English Porter. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of slight Belgian yeast, hint of euro yeast, slight alcohol, roasted malt, strong sweet malt, hint of chocolate, hint of syrup, and slight dark citrus. Overall, good appearance, aroma, blend, and complexity. The addition of the Belgian yeast is unusual in an English Porter.

Dark brown color with a rich bubbly off white head.
Rich chocolate and dark pitted fruits with hints of earthy funk to offset. More Porter than anything with just faint hints of a mixed fermentation. Tasty brew otherwise.

11.2 fl oz stubby bottle sealed with white pressure cap with BBD 11/07/17 stamped on the cap. I would assume this is the indication of the letters BBD meaning: "best before date".

poured into HF wine stem.

Appearance: medium brown bodied beer with tall creamy 3 fingers worth of khaki colored head. Head recedes down to a thick cap and leaves heavy lacing all over the inside surface of the glass.

Smell: Lots of chocolate and earthy aromas. Hint of roast. Fruity yeast and a bit of Drie fontenien signature funk.

Taste: Mild tartness and moderate funk upfront. Moderate roast malt flavor and fruity yeast in the middle of the beer. Nice sweetness from the malts seems to hit in the middle of the beer mostly a chocolate note with a hint of toffee or caramel. Light smokiness in the finish.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied beer with moderate carbonation. A creamy mouthfeel that dries out slightly in the finish. Not a hint of booze. Good drinkability.

Overall: This 3F beer reminds me of Allagash midnight brett. Though it is a much price point at 5 bucks a bottle vs 15 bucks for midnight brett. I am not sure how old this bottle is, but I think it has had some time to develop. Nice funk that works well with light tartness and a sweet and earthy malt profile.

Pours a classic dark brown near black color with a nice head to start, though lacking density or body is fades quickly.

The nose is nearly all chocolates, malts, and marginal coffee notes followed by a sour fruit aroma.

The beer drinks about as it smells. A bit more focus at the end on the sour fruits and a lot more coffee and french press notes.

Sadly the beer drinks a bit light and the carbonation is lacking.

A near world class beer foiled by a below average mouth feel.

Served from the bottle into a snifter.

Nice appearance of frothy khaki-colored head, heavy lacing, and a deep black body.

Smells like a chocolatey porter. Heavy on the malt profile with a tinge of something tart.

Pretty much like the nose in taste, chocolatey, rich malt and a bit of berry-like tartness. Cocoa is all over the finish. The flavors evolve greatly with some warmth.

It's tart for sure, but it comes in and out. Porter-like creaminess and easy-drinking qualities otherwise.

I like this brew. It stands out from the crowd, for better or for worse.

A- Medium-dark brown body, half finger white head, good retention, no lacing.

S- Roasted malt, a bit of caramel, coffee, mild musty earth. Not sour by any means, mildly tart.

F- Mildly tart funk, but for the most part it tastes like a malty porter. Roast malt, toasted biscuits, caramel, earth, toffee.

M- Medium-thinner bodied, nice depth, good carbonation. It's pretty much a mildly tart porter with a bit of funk.

O- Nothing special. Lots of better porters out there than this. The lambic yeast does add a bit of a twist, but not enough for it to differentiate itself.

Black pour into my SAPP with big khaki head; viscous lacing. There is a funky, sour nose here. Taste is semi sweet prunes with a malty finish-and yet slightly tart for a porter. Lite mouth feel and good carbonation. Tasty tart finish!

A - Pretty nice looking beer! Deep ice coffee body with cherrywood highlights. Lose, dark khaki head has low retention and nice lace.

S - Sharp sour note, cherry Pepsi, grahm crackers, and medium roast coffee grinds.

T - Strong coffee backbone, touch of anise, flat root beer, and an odd artificial grape soda flavor.

M - Thin, slightly watery body.

O - Coffee forward with surprisingly little sourness / acidity in the flavor profile based on what comes through in the nose.

An English porter with Belgian yeast....mmkay

A dark brow pour, nothing fantastic, thin head a lacing

Aroma is sweet nuttiness and a bit of funk. A tad sour

Yeah, this isn't a good porter. It's a dark Belgian beer, but not at the same time. Sour, and not in the good way. The roasted characteristics do not blend well with the yeast.

Not a bad beer. Not a repeat either.

Great take on an old style porter. Just enough funk to let you know where "Brett" comes from.
I wonder if any English brewers bottle funky porters?

A great belgian sour beer with a unique darkness. I enjoyed this beer in Churchkey in DC both on tap and in the bottle. On tap it was a bit bland and flat, but was substantially more flavorful and even more sour in the bottle.

330ml bottle poured into a pint glass.

I came across this one as I was buying some beer today. "Porter with wild yeast". As a fan of Stouts/Porters and as a fan of sour beers, I had to try this one. I can't imagine how this combination would end up though.On to the beer:

A: Pours a very dark opaque black color. About four fingers of a very rocky and foamy tan head with good retention - leaves a lot of lacing on the walls of the glass. (4.25)

S: Really strong roasted malts aroma right upfront. Roasted coffee grains is very dominant. Ashy, hints of smoke and leather. Hints of dark berry tartness, vanilla. (4)

T: Taste is very interesting. It doesn't differ all that much from a traditional English Porter, except for the sourness. Metallic, follows the nose on the roasted malts. Bitter powdered chocolate, strong coffee taste, ashy, very rich. But instead of an intense bitterness, as one would expect when drinking an English Porter (not this one though), there is a very interesting berry-like sourness. Relatively matured I would say, way more sour than many wild ales I've tried. (3.75)

M: Medium-bodied with low carbonation. Creamy and sticky feel. Ashy and roasted grains aftertaste, with a hint of tartness. (3.75).

O: This is an extremely unique brew. As mentioned before, I am a big fan of sours and porters. However, I prefer the sourness/tartness in very pale or red (flanders) beers. I would definitely have this again because of its uniqueness, and I don't dislike it by any means. But I think I might prefer either Porters or Sours, not both mixed up. (3.75)

the sour quality definitely comes thru here, and it is an interesting addition to a porter flavor profile. on the fruitier side of porters, dark sour berry comes out. a bit ashey, abundant carbonation. overall its a unique spin on a porter. lot of yeast qualities

(4.0) A: Very dark coloured with a cola tinge when held up to light. Fingers worth of mocha foam dissipates quickly. Very good lacing as this recedes.

(4.25) S: Citrus rinds, root beer (herbal-like), berries, lightly roasted malt qualities (cocoa powder & dark fruits), vanilla, molasses, and a noticeable sour tinge (almost lemon-like). This is quite a diverse and unique aroma that comes together well.

(3.75) T: Lemon zest and citrus upfront that transitions into the lightly roasted malt tastes of cocoa and some dark fruit with herbal elements. The “wild” comes across more tart than sour and, similar to the aroma, I find it compliments the porter qualities well. Alcohol level is hidden well.

(3.75) M: Medium bodied with a moderate carbonation. Sticky, chalky and slightly gritty but not in an unpleasant way.

(4.0) D: This is very good. Not something I would purchase again at the price paid but glad I tried it.

A-Pours a very dark brown with a creamy, tan head that slowly dies away. Head leaves lots of strings and dots of lacing.

S-Smells of a Porter but there is also some sweet berry notes along with a tangy! nearly tart yeastiness. Chocolate, chalk and roast as well.

T-The Porter elements of the beer stay in charge but the wild yeast does augment the flavor. Powdery chocolate, slightly soured cream, some char. The soft sourness seems to clash a bit with the Porter flavors.

M-Medium bodied with a creamy feel. Soft carbonation.

O-Interesng. The wild yeast works with the Porter during some sips, then during others it becomes a bit perplexing. Happy to find is one though.

Reviewed from notes. Poured from 11.2 oz. bottle into a Cigar City snifter.

A: Dark brown and nearly opaque. Forms a half-finger of tan head that fades quickly over average visible carbonation.

S: Acetic tart, a bit vinous, some toasted malts, and almost a savory tangy undertone. Interesting for sure.

T: Acetic tartness up front, ill-defined fruity character, and toasted malts for a beat. But then the flavors just fade away, ending a thin mineral water hardness and some residual tartness.

M: Obnoxiously thin body, carbonation sensation on the low side, and alcohol noticeable but doesn't detract.

O: Well, this smelled good. The flavors, though, were simple and bare - nothing offensive but not deep. But the mouthfeel was the biggest letdown - way too thin. Maybe not quite watery, but borderline. Not at all what I expect from a porter. It wasn't a drain pour or anything, but I won't be having another. Quite disappointing from this brewery.

375ml bottle into snifter.

A: Pours deep brown with a finger of fluffy light brown head. The head slowly faded into a fuzzy and lasting film, and thick streaks of lacing were left down the glass.
S: Predominately I get notes of roasted malt on the nose, with hints of lambic yeast, bubblegum, and vanilla.
T: My first impression is the flavor is very metallic. I get notes of roasted malt, mild chocolate, vanilla, and slight berry acidity. The lambic yeast adds an interesting fruitiness to the beer, and a very slight tartness as well. The finish is lightly sweet with a hint of spice as well, and the aftertaste is roasted with a touch of smoke and ash lingers long after the swallow. There’s a hint of sweet cherry juice in there as well.
M: Very fluffy carbonation that froths up on my palate. Medium body, fluffy and airy mouthfeel.
O: A very interesting beer, and I enjoyed it, but it’s probably something wouldn’t seek out again. The flavors of the porter are light and clean, and the lambic yeast adds an interesting complexity. Overall though, it’s pretty straight forward.

A: black ale with a finger of tan foamy bubbles

S: hints of sour berry, muted cocoa, some husky, dankness, mild suggestions of cold espresso

T: sour and tart forward - dark and tart; had a grainy character, suggestions of citrus pith and herb in the dry roasted malt; funky and spunky

M: smooth but with prickle of tartness and the fizzing hum of the carbonation; drying on the finish; drinks crisp - even warmed considerably it stayed lively

O: porter fans oughtta check it out, but be braced for the wild ale tartness - it isn't overwhelming or anything, but it was omnipresent in my drink. Wild ale fans, 'specially if you like Midnight Brett or other black/dark ale-sour/wild hybrids - oughtta check it out, too. I'm neither a big porter nor wild ale drinker, but this was one of those beers that kinda defied style boundaries, and taken as a singular entity/entry into the world of beer, it was quite good. The porter base was very mellow and supportive, while the yeasts kept every sip very alive and bright with a dusky tartness.

Had this on 2014-05-30 in Lancaster, PA at Hunger 'N Thirst (from tasting notes)

A - Opaque dark brown with a short tan head.

S - Mild chocolate and roasted grain (food odors were present)

T - Medium roasted grain with some char, some tartness, light chocolate with a balanced, bitter finish. Very nice.

M - Light-medium body and light carbonation. Pretty dry.

O - Very good example of an English Porter.

So this is a porter with wild yeast? Looks like a porter. Tastes like a sour porter. Or as some obnoxious jackass I recently had the distinct pleasure of crossing paths with, since it's using wild yeasts, it's infected! Mildly sour thing, really. Nothing too crazy. A pleasant drinker, but nothing overly memorable. I'm always open to trying something from this brewery, but wouldn't return to this one I think.

11.2oz bottle poured into a snifter. Best by 02/10/16.

A: Pours a clear dark brown appearing almost black in the glass. A mild khaki colored head is fairly quick to dissipate. Some light makes it through the edges of this porter.

S: Initial souring aroma with a cherry and malt like aroma. Chocolate in there as well as other dark fruitiness.

T: Finely crafted blend. A light tartness starts it off with a balanced roasty malt coming in the backend. Chocolate and a dark fruit like cherry round out the profile. As other have said a nice earthiness to the taste.

M: Medium to full body with a velvety smooth character. A touch dry from the lambic yeast but it works well like an irish dry stout. Tartness makes you pucker just a little bit.

Overall its certainly a tasty beer I was glad I could pickup. The lambic yeast is a very interesting dimension of this porter which makes the chocolate and cherry notes excel and adds a pleasant dryness.
