Shared with JLindros and company at the last whale tasting. Reviewed from notes. I think this my my contribution (know I brought one of the Armands)

A - Poured into my Kate the Great tulip a hazy copper golden hue with a nice hazy copper gold with a one finger head that faded to leave nice lacing.

S - Lots of good earthy funky sour going on here. Just a faint hint of hops.

T - Taste is more of that super earthy tart funk gueuze that is more than usual. Very light flashes of barnyard and hay. Again, very earthy and funky.

M - Mouthfeel is tart and crisp with lots of effervescence.

O - Overall, this was earthy and tasty. Quite solid.

Reviewed from notes. All 4 of the Armand’4 were reviewed together in early 2012.

A-Herfst pours a dark, hazy amber orange in color with a large, frothy, off-white head. The head lasts for awhile and leaves a fair amount of lacing.

S-The nose is classic 3F. There is must, earth, barnyard, horse blanket, and a little sweetness you dont get in much of the other 3.

T-The flavor mirrors the nose, there is mustiness, sharp citrusy lemon, mineral, some aged cheese, and some light sweetness in the background.

M-The mouthfeel is light with creamy texture, lively carbonation, and an enduring finish. Herfst had a nice balance of funk and sour compared to the other blends.

O-At the time, I noted that this was probably my third favorite blend, but having just had this again over the weekend, I am inclined to move it up a little. We had it side by side with Armand + Tommy, and it was almost unanimous that it was better than A+T (which we all previously were head over heels for).

Watch out, this one is a gusher and the cork flew out as soon as I took off the cage.

Beer pours a hazy brownish-gold with a fluffy white head. Like the Winter, it's much darker than your average gueuze. Smell is nice, but doesn't hit you in the face like the Winter does. It's oaky, funky with a little bit of sour and hints of salt as well. Flavor isn't as bright as expected, there is some some nice oak and funk/cheesiness, but it's not super sour. It's also got a little bit of apple cider vinegar creeping in as well as a bit more malt than most gueuzes. There is a bit of a bitter flavor on the finish. It's more complex than the Winter, but not quite as drinkable. Mouthfeel is light-medium bodied with a nice coating feeling. Overall, this is yet another great gueuze from 3F, but doesn't blow me away. It's quite complex, but some of that complexity detracts from my enjoyment of it.
