Notes & Commercial Description:
Beer added by: rvdoorn on 03-14-2012

This beer is retired; no longer brewed.

The Golden Blend is made with 4 year old Lambic that accounts for 25 % of it’s contents, the rest of the blend is made up by a "secret" combination of 1, 2 and 3 year old Lambic.

The exact mixture is only known by the master-blender Armand himself.

The name "Golden Blend" is not far away from the truth, in fact, the 4 years of maturation in oak-wooden barrels is making this particular Lambic very expensive.

Due to the "evaporation" through the barrels, only a small percentage of the lambic is left over after 4 years of maturing.

375ml bottle

A- Boom, cork in the face. Pour leaves a thick fluffy white head that dissipates to nothing as it rests. Color is a translucent light gold.

S- Heavy doses of citrus zest and oak. Funk comes off as earthy with subtle notes of honeycrisp apple

T- lemon tartness and oak flavors are balanced by an underlying white grape sweetness. All combined with typical fonteinen funk and yeast flavors. This geuze is more assertive and brash than the regular oude geuze.

M-Body is noticeably thicker than their standard geuze. Carbonation is very spritzy and ample. Lactic cheese/funk and oak linger on the palate.

O-This one is fantastic right out of the gate. I cant wait to see how it develops. With its bigger body and bolder flavors, I would think more subtle flavors will continue to show up as more dominate ones mellow, making this one more complex and intriguing.

A - amber gold with a half-inch soapy-looking bubble head that shrinks to 1/8th of an inch after settling; active carbonation....it's ALIVE!

S - funky tart; white grapes; sour apples; lemon; grains; more funk

T - bite sour; sour apples again; faded white grape juice; tarty; lemon zest; acidic; oak notes towards the back; has some sour patch kid flavors going on

M - smooth but carbonated; the sour elements keep pinging the back of my throat long after the sip is gone; champagne dry as a finish; airy

O - this is a really unique beer...and really...a different beer style that I'm trying to explore, albeit with some reservations; the cost of this and Cantillon is high and not really suggestive of casual exploration; I dig the flavors and mouthfeel, but the sour elements and the overall funky tart fuck with my gut. I imagine this is one of the better 'more available' gueuzes out there...and I'll pick up again to try, but no one's every going to find me chasing 3F.
