Rating #1500, the elusive Framboos, Vintage 2011, poured into a 3F wine glass, reviewed from tasting notes

A: pours a deep red with orange at the edges with a fleeting whitish head that has poor retention and leaves only a trace of lacing 4.25/5

S: huge sweet rasberry jam dominates the nose, there's also some lemon zest and a hint of stale grain 4.75/5

T: leads off with tart rasberry, not near as sweet or jammy as in the nose, that transitions into tart, acidic lemon that tiptoes on the line of overpowering without crossing it, a hint of grain, tartness lingers, almost puckering 4.25/5

M: medium body, good level of carbonation, very dry finish 4.5/5

O: The nose and taste were almost polar opposites, but this beer managed to provide everything I enjoy in a fruit lambic, really wish Armand would bring this one back 4.5/5

Side by Side with Hommage b2

A - Dark muddled red brown. Thick and dark fruit colored with a small foam reddish tint head the recedes back into the glass

S - Jammy butteriness that fits just right with the berries. Funky tart fruits

T - Taste is amazing here definitely one of the highlights of the night, funky cheesy fresh raspberries and with the perfect balance between fruit and acidity

M - Spot on here. Medium bodied thick creamy juicy tart everything you could want

O - This was wayyyyyyy better than the Hommage we popped to do a side by side. Tough to land but at a large share like this, definitely worth it

750ml bottle, 2011 release, poured into a Drie Fonteinen Fountain Tasting glass. Many thanks to Jeff for opening this, big time personal whale! Opened and enjoyed on 6.7.14, reviewed from my tasting journal.

The pours a super dark, raspberry color, not quite red, not quite purple, hazy, cloudy, opaque, any of those words will adequately describe it. A minimal pink head appears that fizzles out quickly, no lace or any real head retention available. Huge aroma of raspberry jam, fruity funk, lemon zest and some pie crust malt. It's very raspberry forward, simple yet delicate. The flavors are right in line, delicious raspberry jam flavor, funkiness, lemon acidity is there with just a touch of malt. It's not quite as bright as the nose, a bit more earthy, the terroir is showcased well, nice jammy flavors and the funkiness is just right, not overpowering, but helps to express the fruit flavors. The mouthfeel is nice, very lively carbonation that doesn't prickle at all, it coats the mouth and tongue well and the texture feels juicy and jammy with a very soft, creamy finish.

Verdict: A delicious framboise from Drie Fonteinen, one I wish they would make more often. It's not as delicate and bright as the Lou Pepe Framboise for me, but still a wonderful showing of raspberries with nice layers of funk and acidity that don't overpower the beer or let it get too sweet.
