A run of the mill Saison. Nothing special. Just another 'meh' beer from Fulton.

Lots of dark fruit which lends the malt body an Irish Red Ale type aroma and taste, although the funky, slightly tart yeast does make it clear this is a Saison. Spicy rye finish, with some more Irish Red Ale characteristics muddying up the aftertaste. Decent overall, but the odd mix makes it not as refreshing as many Saisons.

On tap at Brewery, Pours a slight hazed copper color with a beige head, smell is rye spice and yeast caramel and citrus , Taste follows the nose saison style funk with citrus and sweet malts, high carbonation with spicy rye in the mouth feel, this is one to try , most likely will never have again.

Pours a hazy amber color with a small head.
The nose is surprisingly sweet. I get a lot of tropical fruit and caramel candy.
Taste is slightly disappointing considering the smell. The sweet caramel is definitely present, and there is a distinct amount of malt in the aftertaste. Body is light with limited carbonation.
Overall, this is solid. I wish it had a tad bit more complexity, but for what it is it's pretty damn good.

a really good use of rye in this, one of the best fulton beers i have had to date. its clear, especially for a saison, and a little darker than a lot of them with more of a copper color to it. over an inch of white head in the tulip and lots of little bubbles chaotically running around. it smells great, rye spice up front, a slight caramel sweetness in the middle, a toasted warming quality, and then a belgian type saison yeast strain that has a little peppery kick to it and some bitterness after that. its a well constructed beer, and the flavor pattern follows the nose nicely. great to have the rye hit first, all on the front end, really distinct to this grain, and its backed up by just a little honey sweetness, which i think can really work in the style when its there. the yeast is in a lot of ways belgian here, but has almost none of that fruitiness to it, spice instead, black pepper and green tea is what i pick up on, but its vibrant and clean in the end. carbonated brilliantly, and keeping a sturdy medium body throughout, its very satisfying and refreshing at the same time, a beer drinkers session beer, and a wonderful display of pale rye malt in a beer thats not overly complex. really drinkable, really well done.

For the aroma, at first all I got was burnt sugar, toffee, bit of hops; next time around I did get a whiff of the saison musty funk. Flavor wasn't bad with a rye fruity Saison stylishness. Some off notes in the finish tho.

Just have to say, tastes like Surly's nine ale... Scent of bubblegum and fruit esters of banana, pear, and citrus hints of orange, lemon, mango, and apricot. Slight hints of candied sugar. Pale malt with hints of grains, straw, wheat, rye, and cracker. Light grassy hop hints. Classic Belgian style yeast and light taste of citrus, lemon, pepper, and malt.... Creamy for sure. Has a nice balance between bitter and malt and is easy to drink. One of my favorite Rye Saison's out there.

12oz bottle with no readable freshness date, but I'm assuming it's fresh since it's a spring seasonal and I didn't see it on the shelf at my favorite store a couple weeks ago.
I like a higher level of carbonation in my beer, but the fizz level in this one is way overdone, almost like club soda or seltzer water, with an annoying tingle on the tongue. It's reflected in the wimpy, airy, too-bubbly head as well.
Smell is malty with some notes of maybe grass or light citrus and a hint of something deeper, bordering on chocolaty, but not quite. The smell is the best part of this beer for me.
The flavor is nothing to write home about, as most of it was destroyed for me by the heavy carbonation. It does have some definite rye spice to it, but nothing else really stands out.
I've had a couple of Fulton's offerings on tap at a beer tasting and I remember them being much better than this, so I won't write Fulton's off, but I'm not going to be in any hurry to pick up any of their six-packs in the future. Maybe I'll go for a stout from them if I happen across one in a sixer some day.
