Bottled 7/27/15.
Pours a murky crimson-orange with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Foamy swaths of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, earth, and citrus zest aromas. Taste is much the same with toast, earth, citrus zest, and slight rye flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop and earth bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with a rye presence that is subtle to me.
Serving type: bottle.

22oz poured to tulip
Pours a clear dark reddish brown, big tan head that flattens out quickly
Aroma is hop centric, piney and a bit grassy and doggy
No dog in the flavor department, crisp hop bitterness followed with a floral and citrus blush. Big malt backbone
Mouthfeel in robust
Overall a really well done big red

Big Red Ale. Clear. Nice smell. Hops overwhelm the malt at the nose. Nice citrus smell. Head a bit light but mine is probably a bit too chilled. Good malt taste. Lingering bitterness, not alcoholic at all for a 8% beer. I had this at a brewfest and later bought a bomber to review at home.

2oz bottle from Roths Sunnyslope store in S.Salem. $7.49 A turbid brown ale with a large ,creamy, bubbly creme coloured head. Strong hop aromas, resiny and herbal..with a earthy malt backing Extremely well balanced taste maybe a bit stronger on the malts..spicy notes also which may be rye present, black bitter french roast coffee aspect finishes off which is nice. Good mouthfeel quite silky for a such an alcoholic beer. Overall a good beer worth seeking out

The Rye really comes out in this. My only complaint would be that the rye is too prominent and isn't as balanced as it could be. If you LOVE Rye, this beer is rockin'. If you want to see how the hops and rye can balance better...go for Sierra Nevada's Ruthless.
Great color and smell though.

Had it on tap at the brewery on 2/19/2012
A - Deep and somewhat cloudy brown amber with a nice and foamy tan (light brown) colored head.
S - Mild hops, citrus and passionfruit on the nose.
T - Grassy bitter hops up front but finishes dry and clean with some grainy flavors.
M - Mild amount of carbonation, full to medium bodied.
O - Overall, it's a beer that is above average. Great mix of malt and hops that produces a unique flavor.
