330 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 9.5%. Clear pale yellow colour, briskly sparkling, moderate white head. Lovely aroma of herbal hops (Saaz, Styrian Goldings and Equinox), hints of citrus and spices. Refreshing despite its strength. Medium dry and crisp flavour, dominated by herbal and spicy hops, some alcohol. Medium bitter finish.

Pours a hazy gold producing a voluminous, billowy, 4+ finger, lasting, white head which recedes to a large, clumpy surface cap/mound & thick collar ring, leaving a webby wash of sticky lacing. Aroma is an aromatic blend of Citra hops, sweet cracker malt, Belgian yeast spice & white fruits, heavy to white grape. If an aroma can be called juicy this one fits the bill. Taste is similar but a more subdued blend of sugary & fruity, sweet citrus & cobbler dough breadiness, white fruits, spice & alcohol. Nobel hop bittering. What a dream combination of hops and Belgian yeast! Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium-high carbonation, juciy but spritely, lively with effervesnce & tongue coating, smoothness. The alcohol is surprisingly not prominent for a 9.5 ABV. Hell, who knows, being bottle-conditioned the alcohol content may have gone up over the years.

11.2oz bottle poured into a Duvel Tulip glass. Date stamp of 062017 L413040021.
Appearance: Mostly clear gold with a persistent thick white head. Thick strands of persistent lacing noted.
Smell: Very unusual. Grape, melon, citrusy, with some underlying noble hops.
Taste: Initial crisp taste transitioning into a cracker-like malt then noble hop flavors and bitterness, and then finishing with a variety of flavors: grape sweetness, melon, citrus, and just a hint of solvent and potent alcohol notes.
Mouthfeel: Good carbonation. Prickly carbonation scrubs the palate clean initially, and then subsides a bit as the beer warms up and decarbonates a bit. Nice thickness - very smooth.
Overall / Drinkability: This is a 2015 release drank in 2017, just 2 months before the expiration. I think the yeast in the bottle may have imparted some other flavors which led to the potent and not fully pleasant finish. However, this is still a very interesting beer and I'm glad I had it. As a highly hopped beer that would have a limited shelf life, it held up acceptably well. The aroma was certainly better than the finish in my opinion, and even the finish is not bad, it's just quite strong. The alcohol is a bit more notable with this than I've encountered with the normal Duvel, but this is 9.5% vs. the normal 8.5%, so I suspect that's the main reason rather than the yeast working a bit harder over a 2 year period. So overall, very interesting for a Belgian Strong Pale Ale and I will look for this series again as it comes out, but I think the typical shelf life for Belgian ales may not hold up for all hop varieties. One per night is enough.

A- Pours a semi hazed golden yellow color, with lots of yeast suspension! The head pours thick, and white, retaining quite well, and eventually settles into a thin layer with a unique patchwork of thick spots of foam....like polka dots! The carbonation looks to be average for the style and the lacing is modest, sliding back into the side of the glass reasonably fast. Decent overall!
S- Citrus flesh and rinds, such as grapefuit, pomello, orange rind and hints of lime/lemon zest. Green tea silkiness and some mild malt sweetness permiate the nostrils as well.....the finish is, as expected, of fresh Saaz hops and bittering qualities.
T- This has plenty of noble hop bitterness, along with sweet citrus fruits (pomello, grapefruit, orange zest, oily lemon/lime zest) and slightly vegetable Earthiness. The oily bitterness of the hop blend used is cleansing and yeasty at the same time. Awesome on the palate!!
M/O- Medium-ish body, and with plenty of wee tiny bubbles scrubbing the palate well. The flavor bursts are quite welcome and the oily nature of this one cuts through greasy finger food in excellent fashion. The alcohol is very well hidden and this is nicely balanced! Too bad this is a one off brew, but I look forward to future endeavors with this line!

Pours a hazy, gold color. One inch head of a white color. Great retention and decent lacing. Smells of floral hops, citrus hops, Euro yeast, alcohol, hint of earthy malt, and a hint of sweet malt. Fits the style of a Belgian Strong Pale Ale. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp, with a a high carbonation level. Tastes of pale malt, floral hops, alcohol, hint of citrus hops, slight Euro yeast, slight sweet malt, and a hint of earthy malt. Overall, good appearance, complex, decent aroma and body, but too carbonated.
