Reviewed with Ali at BXL served out a tall chalice.

Appearance: Mohagundy with 1 finger of fine and sparkley head. Great layered lacing some of the best lacing I have seen.

Smell: belgian yeast and green fruit and slightly metallic.

Taste: opens rather yeasty with a hint of malt in the middle as a tangy and slightly sour profile comes in the finish. There is a green unripened fruit in the background leaving a slightly tangy and dry aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied with moderate carbonation, and slightly dry.

Drinkability: I would have this again and recommend this to someone who seeks a yeasty, unripened fruit middle and finish with a dry aftertaste with a hint of malt lurking in the background.

Serving type: on-tap

A: Pours a clear dark reddish brown in color with a light amount of fine visible carbonation slowly rising from the bottom of the glass and a moderate amount of crimson red highlights. The beer has a two finger tall foamy beige head that reduces to a medium sized patch of medium thick film, a mottled thin film covering the majority of the remainder of the surface of the beer, and a thick ring at the edges of the glass. Significant amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of dark and lightly toasted malts with some toffee sweetness and moderate aromas of dark fruits (mostly cherries).

T: Upfront there are moderate to slightly stronger flavors of dark, toasted, and slightly burnt chocolate malts. That is followed by moderate flavors of dark fruits (cherries stand out) but without much associated sweetness. Finally there are light to moderate amount of spicy yeast in the finish.

M: Medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Smooth.

O: A little easier to drink than some other Dubbels and there is a nice complexity to both the flavor and smell of this beer. Alcohol is well hidden and there is not as much sweetness as some of the other examples of the style.

330 ml. bottle. Brown colour with red hints when watching to the light. Huge dense head that lasts forever and marks a good lace on the glass. Smell of chocolate, dark fruits, spices, caramel, some wood character, like a port or sherry wine. Medium body, sticky and creamy palate, good carbonation. Taste of chocolate or cocoa, dark fruits, spices, caramel. A bit of an alcoholic finish.
