Poured from a 750 ml corked bottle to chalice. warmed slightly to approx. 50 F
Appearance: Crimson red and clear glowing. Velvety whipped head floats above a continuous torrent of bubbles and lingers throughout drinking.
Aroma: Heavenly. Tart fruit wafts up immediately and lingers. Warmth of the alcohol fills the nostrils pleasantly.
Flavor: Peppery carbonation masks the flavors at first. Tart fruit flavors are subdued. Some bready malty caramel. Yeasty bite along with carbonation. Fairly dry overall and definitely finishes thus. Any sweetness is briefly encountered in the middle. Tongue is left tingly with carbonation bubbles bursting after the sip has been swallowed. Sort of a scrubbing cleansing action giving the flavors an evanescent quality.
Mouthfeel: Spritzy, prickly effervescence. Some slickness as well. A drying sensation on the tongue. Moderate body.
Overall: An enjoyable beer. The flavor does not quite meet the expectations promised from the wonderful aromas and appearance. Perhaps some age would help with that. I would certainly try this beer again. There are enough complexities to suggest many different experiences to be had from resampling.

A: Beautiful chestnut body and head, rocky, lasting, lacing. Yes it matters!
S: Liquor like, Cointreau, is the first impression, along with lots of grass, then blend of dark malts with plenty of fruit notes: apple, plum, figs, cherry. Want more of it, still subtle as it warms.
T: Follows the smell, again with the after-dinner drink quality. In this case, savored on the ferry home. Flavorful, malty dark caramel, spice, brown sugar, cocoa, latte, and stout. Sweet, fruit liqueurs, followed by drying, slight bitterness, into a crisp, roasty finish. COMPLEX!
Mouthfeel: Medium-plus w moderate carbonation.
O: Must try. Unusual grassy and liqueur like Belgian. Recommended.
