Background: I have a little history with this beer. This was one of the very first "craft" or imported beers that I tried when I was just on the cusp of better beerness. I was familiar with the #8, but found the #10 harsh and barely drinkable from the alcohol heat. But I did finish an entire 750ml bottle, and hated the whole thing.

So I revisit this beer years later, after many thousands of other beers (haven't had one since). Pours a clear light gemstone gold with a tall frothy white head. Aroma is light yeast, light pale malt.

Taste is light, dry, biscuity, slightly bitter. Sharp elements of light lemon rind, pale malts, white pepper, mild spices. Flavors of alcohol, strong and more out-front than even higher-ABV beers, but not overpowering.

Mouthfeel is light, almost airy, a little acrid from the alcohol. A rough sort of smoothness, not necessarily because of a brewer's inexperience but precisely because the brewer intends. Can't say I adore it, or that it's even one of the better tripels I've encountered, but my opinion has softened a bit.

Caution, this is my first Tripel. (Thanks Dean.) It was wonderful to try, and the complexity was fun to taste. Break this out for your beer snob friends to impress them.

Appearance - a nice orange shade brew

Smell - Fruity, citrus

Taste & Mouthfeel - very complex fruity ale flavor up front. Enough carbonation. Oddly, the citrus and high ABV reminded me of cough syrup for just an instant, but that quickly passed. There was quite a warmth at the end and a clean finish.

It reminded me of a complex wine with new flavors every second.
