Poured from the stubby 11.2 ounce bottle. This has a beautiful presentation--orange/amber in color, clear, and a thick, fluffy head that isn't going anywhere. Carbonation is active.
The nose has notes of apple cider, brown candy sugar, clove, tarragon, sage, black pepper, orange peel, and cinnamon. There are some earthy undertones to this beer, too...of wet wood, damp leaves, and pollen.
The flavor has sweet citrus elements to it. It carries some warm bread tones, honey, white grapes, and maybe fennel. There are also some notes of dark fruit in here, such as plum and raisin--which brings with it a bit of a sweet, yet still a bit funky taste to the beer.
In terms of alcohol, the high ABV is quite present--both on the palate and as it goes down--very warming. The beer, though, is actually quite smooth--in body and in flavor. A lingering breath of clove, banana, and plum seems to hang around.
Overall, a good beer--solid, interesting, and drinkable--though I wouldn't have more than one in a sitting, for sure.
