Coming out of the bottle, it pours a light brown and translucent color. However, once inside the glass it becomes more of a mixture of a brown and golden color. Aroma is malty sweet. It reminds me of a combination of brown sugar and a hint of caramel as well as fruity banana like aromas. Taste is spicy and somewhat fruity. Elements of dark bread. Finish is quite dry and bitter. A full bodied beer. Active carbonation that tickles the tongue. Overall a very complex beer, perhaps somewhat overwhelming. The overall dryness and bitterness is somewhat over the top. Drinking this beer alone, you will definitely get quite a buzz. However, as the brothers mentioned, it might be better with a hearty meal. I had this beer with some cheese and salami. Next time, I would like to try it with a full meal.

A - Pale copper color. Clear, with a slight haziness probably due to some yeast still in suspension. Frothy and clumpy head that resides within a couple of minutes after being poured into a wine glass.

S - Bread and yeast flavors are the first to hit my nose. Then fruits: Primarily apricot and banana. Spicyness, mainly in form of clove. The aroma is fairly sweet. I also get a kind of tartness, but that might just be because of the gueuze I just drank before this beer.

T & M - First thing I notice is some hefty prickling on my tongue, definitely a lot of carbonation here! The same flavor profile as the aroma, but when drinking the beer there are some differences: You definitely notice and taste the alcohol, however it is very mild. The beer is also very dry all the way through tasting it, with the sweetness of the alcohol and fruity esters balancing this. Tasting it I also get a flavor of light syrup. Medium-high body (fairly thin body considering the ABV).

O - This is definately a good tripel. Personally I favor beers with even less body and more drinkability (not that this isn't drinkable for a tripel). I can imagine this beer working nice with cheeses, and also for a dessert pairing.

Review based on the BJCP2008 guidelines (style 18C). Bottle 33 cl - Batch L4072 2357. AROMA: strong alcohol presence with a soft and spicy aroma. vinous like aroma. no hop notes. very faint citric esters. APPEARANCE: dark gold color, almost orange. a bit hazy. average ivory head with medium-low retention. some lacing. TASTE: some spicy and sweet background profile. full alcohol presence with a vinous aspect. medium-low bitterness with a semi-dry finish. no hop flavours. faint esters reminiscent of oranges. PALATE: medium-light body. medium carbonation. no solventy character. OVERALL: a tripel that lacks a bit of aroma and flavour complexity. a bit strong on the alcohol aromas.
