Green stumpy 33cl bottle with loads of life left according to the best before date. Poured into an old Berliner Kindl 0.4 litre straight sided glass.

Pale, cloudy yellow body with a pure white head, just about clear enough to see bubbles rising through and up to the head.

Thought there would be more of a nose, some yeast and grapefruit, but nothing very strong.

Weak flavours of watered down fizzy lemon juice, not overly impressed.

Strange feel to the beer, I am no expert on the Witbier style but this is the 13th I've reviewed on BA and this is one of the worst to date.

Not even the sharp, refreshing tang you normally get from Witbiers, a poor effort from a well respected brewery. I'll not be seeking this out again.

A good head. The nose, slightly bitter, slightly reminiscent of the smell of lager, one feels also the wheat, and fairly strong. The entry on the palate is a little spicy but the beer quickly becomes acidic. Unfortunately, we pin too fast a flagrant lack of taste.

Bottle of 330 ml, at home. Poured into a weizen glass. ABV is 4,7%. Medium head for the style, about one and a half fingers, white in colour and soapy in texture. Left some light lacing as it went down, in a short period of time.Only a slighty hazybess on the body, looks pretty clear. Average activity in the glass. Banana, clove and citrus aromas on the nose. Sweet taste with a very faint sourness on the finish. Quite boring, also some citrus fruits on the taste, but that’s pretty mush it. Overall, below than your average wit beer, it lacks lots on the taste.

Bottle: Poured a light yellow color ale with white hue and a large enough white head with OK retention. Aroma of light wheat malt and citrus notes is OK. Taste of weak wheat malt and light zesty undertone sis a bit weak. Body is light with good carbonation. Short on complexity and drinkability is just not high enough to compensate.

Beer bottle (33 cl.), tasted in 2011.

Appearance : pale golden color, with white foamy head.
Smell : wheat, spicy and citrus aromas.
Taste and mouthfeel : moderate malty with citrus notes, and dry wheaty finish.
Drinkability : an average beer in the style Belgian WitBier.

won this in a lif, poured into my duvel tulip glass, poured a cloudy yellowish white color with a head for days, the smell is sour with a hint of spices. the taste in this one a bland sour in the begining the middle is ciniman =, safron, some light malt at the start, then the end is sour with a bitter finish, this is an ok vershion of a witbier but one is enough for me

A- had this on tap at popeye's in Tokyo. A very pretty golden blond. A bit cloudy. Nice pour.

S- very light smell. A little spice. Not much else other than clean.

T - more spice than the nose. Some bitter citrus notes.

M - flavorful without being too overwhelming. Par for the style.

O- would definately drink again in Tokyo since it's a bit more drinkable than hitachino white. will come back for one in the summer.

330ml bottle bought from GapWines, Belfast...

Poured a hazy straw yellow colour... White head poured quite foamy then faded quickly to very thin layer....quite a lot of big carbonation bubbles punch the surface... some light patchy lacing...

Aroma - Very light spicy fruitiness (lemons, pears, some grapefruits), salty notes, some yeastiness, some light hops just coming through, grassy, light honey notes...

Taste - Light lemon fruitiness, also some spicy apples, grassy, floral, barely any malts, some light spicy hops, very light sugary sweetness, some coriander notes...

Feel - Pretty sharp and dry. Light body. Fairly drinkable but just a bit boring to have me coming back for more...

Overall - A bog standard witbier... not something i'd be rushing back to as there are much better examples out there...

Very light beer, but not boring like your typical adjunct lager.

This beer is very good for the summer, though it is disappointing when depth is sought out. I had this beer in some underground bar in Shanghai, where the beer culture is nowhere as vibrant as in the United States, so in the given situation, I was satisfied.

For a white beer, I prefer something with more clove/banana such as in the UFO White (to go basic). Allagash has a fantastic White beer. This one is drinkable. Very crisp to taste, but aroma was not memorable.

Fizzy & spicy. Color pours a pale yellow with a disappointing head.

Bought at 'Meny' in Trondheim, Norway. 330 ml bottle, and has a lower abv of 4,7% than the original at 5%.

For a beer it's very white, nice head with small bubbles. Hazy. Smells of banana and clove, some sitrus fruits, bready yeast. Taste profile is the same, starts off with a soft interplay between the fruity and spicy (primarily cloves) before the cloves takes over. Finish seems a bit sweet at first, but transitions into dryness. Where this beer goes wrong is mouthfeel - it's a little bit undercarbonated and the body is too light for my taste.

I've seen this beer in stores here in Japan along side Hoegaarden and in a few beer pubs, and finally decided to give it a try at Popeye's in Ryogoku, Tokyo.

A - This was served with 2.5 fingers of strong white head, and lots of continued carbonation and bubbling. The color is...bright. It reminded me of instant lemon pudding. It has that same almost neon glow to it. It's cloudy and the head left splotched rain drops of lacing on the glass.

S - Yeah, fruity and sour. Noticeably yeasty. The malts were too subdued I felt. The smells lingered around for a while and had a bit of a cleaning fluid, disinfectant smell.

T - The taste was pretty light. There was an initial sour stinging lip puckering lemon taste that didn't really have enough character. Sour, yes, but not as much in a yeasty way as a juice way. Malt, once again, hard to define. The aftertaste was mostly just lemon peel, and it stayed around for 45 sec.

M - There was nice light, fizzy, medium light body. But all-in-all too watery for me.

D - The would be good for some occasions, but it's not the best white beer out there. Pair this with food that won't be affected by the overly sour flavor.

A: Not much for a head, translucent slightly dark yellow. can't see any rising carbonation.
S: Traditional witbier smell, but perhaps on the strong side, richer and going deeper. Quite floral, like a magnolia. A very true floral smell, unlike any other beer I've had. Certainly a floral yeast.
T: Promising smell but the flavor doesn't deliver. Hollow like many witbiers. Quite lemony, but nearly zero sweetness, kinda like a failed lemonade. Tart, sour and a bit bitter. But almost not bad. Still drinkable. Wheaty.
M: Sourness, hair astringent. Dry. Light to medium body.
O: I hate to say this, but it would probably be better if sugar was added. Mediocre

Sold as "Vedett Extra Witten".

The liquid is cloudy; the colour bright orange-yellow. The low white head leaves some lacing.

The smell is spicy and sour. I found notes of coriander and some citric notes. It is fresh, but a bit weak.

The taste is weaker compared to a Hoegaarden. Some dry-sour wheat-notes, some spicy flavours, an earthy touch. The body is weak. The mild aftertaste is a bit sourish with a touch of coriander.

The carbonation is medium strong; the liquid is smooth for a wheat beer.

An witbier amongst the other... Nothing special.

Green bottle of Vedett Extra White, 33cl. Best before 05 2010. Never seen this beer before, purchased in Japan.

Looks good - very cloudy straw-coloured brew with glowing white head, heaps of lacing and fine carbonation.
Served cold, around the recommended 3°C, and aromas aren't overwhelming, but some are noticeable. Lemon oil in particular, and a faint breadiness. Delicate but not a rich bouquet.
Taste is mild but refreshing. Not astringent, but cleansing and doesn't leave any tastes in the mouth. Would make a good inter-beer palate cleanser. Bitter and lemony on the palate, not a lot of flavour on the tongue but very nice as a sophisticated thirst-quencher.
A little drying in the mouthfeel, but that's the idea. Would go very well with greasy food. Easy to quaff, would also couple well with chili dishes.

I like this beer even though there's not a whole lot to it. I'll probably buy it again, although it's an expensive import in Japan; no local beers come anywhere near this light, satisfying quaffer.

330ml bottle poured into a pint glass by freshness date.

The pour yields hazy pale yellow color with thick white foamy head along with sediment flecks floating around its body. The head retention is good and leaves fine lacing patches sticking to the glass, high carbonation.

The smell contains clove spiciness, orange, lemon zest and banana.

Rather clean taste, clove spice carries all the way long together with orange and lemon zest, grain and wheat drying the thing up. Hop bitterness is there but mild.

The body is light to medium with right amount of crisp from high carbonation, dry finish.

It is refreshing and easy drinkable properly a good session beer.

330 ml green bottle purchased from LCBO as part of a 4 pack. Cost is $3 CDN per bottle. Served cold as recommended into glassware. Advertised as 4.7% ABV.

Appearance - pale hazy straw coloured beer. Small finger or so of white head with ok retention time. Minimal lacing and the beer is too hazy to give details of the bubbles situation.

Smell - slightly skunked, almost certainly from the green bottles. Otherwise some wheat and lemon zest are the biggest aromas. A sweet floral aspect is also present as is with the case with many wits.

Taste - pretty mild and subdued, but some sweet breads flavours are present as well as a lemon zest soda like mixture. A bit of a creamy taste as well. Works well together.

Mouthfeel - fairly highly carbonated, light body to the point of being extremely light, and moderately dry finish. Pretty good here.

Overall - while it doesn't live up to the some of the namesake created by this brewery (read Duvel) this is a pretty decent witbier, that is very light and refreshing. For those looking for a more significant witbier, look elsewhere, but this comes recommended and certainly wouldn't turn it down this time of year.

on tap (yup, and I'm not in belgium!) into shaker pint glass- in december...eesh.

A- 2 finger head, fairly compact bubbles, recedes to thin wispy 1mm cap. Hazy, straw yellow color. Thin broken lacing, but more than I expected- pretty nice to look at.

S- slight acid, tart, sourdough-ish. Little yeasty. pretty fresh, little citric.

T- lightly tart, citric, a little sweeter in the middle. lingering bitter/dryness in the finish, moreso than I expected.

M- thin, not a lot of carbonation, but not lacking either.

Overall, I thought it was a nice beer- had it been summer, I'd be much happier drinking this. As such, it still scores decent with me for a white beer and I'd drink it again easily, specially with frites or seafood in the summer.

Purchased at the LCBO 4pk of 330ml bottles for $12.00. Served at 4deg C in a challis.

A- Opens really well. Pours a high white head. Unfiltered but really light colored. Unusual

S- Very nice yeast as expected from a white beer. Coriander

T- Light that is for sure. Not a Hoegaarden but good in it's own way. Yeast is there. It's Hoegaarden missing some ingredients.

M- Light on the tongue and dry.

O- Nice to have tried this. Will sip the other 3 as time passes but will not buy again

Food Pairing

This ok white beer went well with... eggs with ham and toast

Poured from the tap into a pint glass in Shanghai.

A; The beer is a bright hazy lemon color. Head is pure white, 2 fingers, and stays an OK amount.

S: Nice spicy nose with lots of citrus peel. Some yeasty bready malt in there. Solid overall.

T: Very citrusy with a good amount of balancing malt in there. Spicy character in the middle with coriander and citrus peel coming through.

F: Very carbonated but refreshing.

Overall a pleasant if basic beer. Nothing really stands out but the brew has a great refreshing character. OK overall.

16oz glass, a surprise find at MKT.

This beer appears a cloudy, pink-tinged pale straw colour, with the thinnest of thin caps of wispy lace, which leaves some attractive rocky promontory lace around the glass as things slowly bleed away.

It smells of semi-sweet wheat malt, orange citrus cream, savoury coriander, earthy yeast, and a bit of green vegetable astringency. The taste is still more or less sweet - not so crisp wheaty malt, muted white pepper and coriander spice, a hint of Certs menthol, and a fading acerbic yeastiness.

The bubbles are fairly underwhelming for the most part, the body medium-light in weight, and somewhat smooth, the yeast and edgy fruit mucking about a bit too much. It finishes off-dry, the sugary wheat carrying on, amongst a fading spice and yeast offset.

A simple witbier, to be sure - all the marks are hit, sure, but in a newbie-friendly, less than challenging manner. Easy enough to put back, but not something I could justify repeating over the course, of well, anything, especially today.

Pours straw with a small lasting head.
Nose shows loads of coriander and dried orange peel alongside the usual doughy wheat. Very refeshing!
Similar flavours, a bit too much coriander in there though, gives too much of a vegetal character.
Carbonation is too high.

A yellow beer with a creamy white lace head.

Smell of citrus, a pungent sulfuric smell, almost like a Duvel smell. Grainy and citric.

Taste is grainy, wheat with a spicy and citric taste. Almost like lemons are used, but wothout the acidity. Body is light, maybe a bit too light. Aftertaste is dry and short.

330ml bottle served in a Duvel tulip glass.

A: Pours a hazy and very pale yellow color foming a medium bubbled white head. Mefium retention and only few spotty lacings left

S: Great spicy smell. Strong on coriander and orange zest. Wheat, sweet grains, earthy yeasts and flowery hops

T: Slightly sweet upfront. Sweet grains, wheat, honey, orange zest, earthy yeasts. A dry and refreshing taste, in overall

M: Light body. Creamy texture. Medium carbonation. Wheaty and spicy aftertaste

O: Very refreshing easydrinking. Good quality wittebier

Bottle into a half-pint non-tapered pint glass in the Oslo pub, in Salthill, Galway, Ireland (low altitude). Reviewed from notes.

A: Cloudy white lemon-yellow colour. Three finger head of fair thickness but no cream.

Sm: Citrus: lemon and grapefruit mainly. Wheat.

T: Cream open to lemon estery hop body with a lovely lemon finish. The wheat is present but scaled back to highlight the esters. Well built and balanced. Quite refreshing.

Mf: Delicately light on the palate. Delightfully coarse to the point of being tingly, but a bit too wet. The yeast chunks are a necessary evil - easy on the pour, lads.

Dr: It's a good beer at a high price, particularly here in Ireland. I assume it's very affordable in Belgium, so all of ye beer advocates would do well to give it a go.

330ml Bottle from the Ottawa LCBO for $3

Appearance - Yellow colour with a small size fizzy white coloured head. There is a low amount of carbonation showing and there is some fair lacing. The head lasted for only a few minutes.

Smell - Banana, breads/grains, clove, lemons

Taste & Mouth - There is an above average amount of carbonation and I can taste lemons, cloves, bananas, and some breads/grains. There is also a bit of a orange zest flavour.

Overall – Refreshing and easy to drink. Not something to go out of your way for, but I'll have no trouble working my way through a 4-pack.
