Ah, the elusive Duvel Green. Finally came across it while looking for a spot to watch the Real Madrid-FC Barcelona 2nd leg in the 2011 UCL semi finals. Happily turned down Nevada ___'s on 12th and 3rd to go to the place right down the street- The Village Pourhouse.

served in its own tulip labeled "duvel green" with the Duvel written on green. Served almost to the top but had maybe a finger's worth of head which held nicely for a fair while, bright and white (and compact). Very similar toned to the original Duvel, radiating golden tone with a mild fizzy activity generating from the centre.

Smell is beautiful, I'd forgotten the gorgeous notes of true belgian beers. very soft sweet scented, blended with a discrete must and just a bit of hops. all coming together, so subtle and so complex at once.

Taste wise, it was interesting because it is close enough and far enough from the orig Duvel at once- it has all the belgian goodness as in how sweet and fruity it is, tending to perhaps ripe plums at times, melanged with a yeast-alcohol combo; however it holds a substantial difference with its sibling in bitterness, given this one is far more discrete in the hop department, rounding it to be a more subtle and happy flavoured beer. there's also a bit less carbonation but I may risk attributing that to the draft storage (correct me if wrong). nonetheless it has the same refreshing yet heavy body that makes it a year round treat.

In all, although I still hold a stronger place for the original duvel in my heart, having finally had a taste of this brew made my day (i didn't really care about the score). Will give it another try when back in NY, or whenever I get to land this beer just as randomly in the future.

A-Pours a clearer straw color. I expected this to look pretty and it didn't disappoint. It is adorned with a clean, tight, white head. Light level-rings mark my pace down the chalice.

S-Neatened up Belgian yeast. Soft fruity esters. A bit of old-time spice. Some pale sweetness. Simple but enticing and buttoned up.

T-Flavor brought forth more sweetness. It is still very influenced by that signature Duvel yeastiness. Soft, grassy hops. Grainy and spicy on the finish.

M-Very drinkable. Crisp and quenching with uplifting carbonation. My pour disappeared very quickly.

O-A tasty Belgian Pale that doesn't go overboard in any one area. I found the $9 pour to be somewhat ridiculous but that's the bar's fault. I will take the traditional Duvel over this every time but I haven't stumbled upon this on draft before and trust the brand enough to spend the money.

(served in a Duvel tulip)

A: extremely clear, extremely pale-golden liquid... beautiful cottony, spongy white foam - takes forever to recede, maintains a thin, pillowy cap till the end... laces like a champ

S: sugar-cookie dough... mellow flowery hops... mild corn-mealy, moonshine-like phenolics

T: silken, lightly-toasted, graham cracker-y malt... delicately spicy hop and phenolic overtones... sort of background tinting of bright citrus zest... no one flavor really stands out - all are delicate and finely balanced

M: lager-light in body, crisp.... quite dry... only a faint glow of warmth

O: this is what I tell every customer it is - a mellower, more 'easy-drinking' version of Duvel (as if Duvel Sr. is laborious to drink!).... most casual or less-adventurous beer drinkers really dig it, while some feel it's too restrained... pleases most though
