A 330ml bottle with a BB of Oct 2015. Picked up a little while back from Trembling Madness in York. The 2013 edition of this beer is hopped with Sorachi Ace, Saaz and Styrian Goldings. I enjoyed last year's version, so hopefully this will live up to expectations.

Poured into a Duvel tulip. Bottle conditioned. A pale gold hue with a hazy translucence and plentiful carbonation. Produces a vast head of fluffy, brilliant-white foam with excellent stability; this slowly reduces to a thick surface layer. Nice lacing. Aroma of bright citrus with hints of lemon, lime, peel and grass/hay, underpinned by fruity yeast esters, phenolics, mild spice and a warming whiff of booze. Rather nice.

Tastes of fruity aroma hops and earthy yeast, with a dry, bitter finish. Notes of lemon, lime, mild peel, grass/hay, white pepper, fruity esters, phenolics, faint spice, earthiness and stewed hops. Highly attenuated, with a faintly spicy quality and a hint of warming alcohol in the background. A restrained, aromatic bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth, dry and tingly, accompanied by hop oils that tantalise the palate. Pleasant carbonation and good body. Somewhat astringent, with an aftertaste of fruity yeast esters, aroma hops and a leafy bitterness.

Tasty - another satisfying blend of Belgian style with aromatic hops. In particular, the lemony notes complement the yeasty character well (something that was also apparent in the 2012 version). It looks great; though Duvel always does. The aroma and flavour are lovely - plenty of light citrus notes accompanied by spicy, earthy yeast. Body is superbly judged. Very nice; if it weren't for the price I'd grab a few more. Worth sampling if you come across it.

Best before 09/2015

A: Pours a slightly hazy gold. Very tall, very effervescent white head. Great head retention with a big island of foam. Very thin lacing.

S: Definitely sorachi ace in this one. Light aroma of lemongrass right off the bat. Light citrus, pears and some earthy, black pepper spice too. Sweet grains for the malt.

T: Lots of lemongrass up front. Spicy. Surprising hop strength especially since this is from 2013. A bit of light citrus in there too. Sweet grains in the middle. Light bitterness in the finish with more lemongrass and some earthy black pepper. Grainy black pepper lingers between sips with an oddly skunk-like (but not quite) flavor.

M: Medium bodied, smooth and dry.

O: Interesting variation of the duvel tripel hop. Sorachi ace is quite prevalent. Maybe a little too all-encompassing if I'm honest. I really enjoy Duvel and this is all sorachi ace. It's good, don't get me wrong. I was just expecting something a little different. Still nicely executed and I enjoyed it plenty.

Appearance: beautiful hazy pale yellow with thick head and excellent carbonation.
Overall: strong hop presence which overrides the nice belgian yeast character. I like hops, but this is too much in a belgian ale for me. While still a solid beer, a little more balance would be nice.

Always open to trying a new beer from Duvel Moortgat.

Pours clear with a thin off-white head. Flavor is sweet. Minimal hop spices. More so as the aftereffect lingers in my mouth. There seems to be what seems vaguely similar to a pear flavor here; it's probably a different fruit that I am reminded of but can't remember the name of. Overall it is very crisp. Another nice brew from a brewery that I expect no less from.
