Had a bottle at Ommegang yesterday afternoon.Poured in a tulip glass a lightly hazed lemon color with a nice looking sticky bone white head atop.Aromas were herbal and grassy with mild yeasty esters with a bit of lightly toasted grain.Great hop complexity on the palate, very "green" and herbal, with some sharp spiciness, and citric notes, the malt backbone was dry and the yeast was there but not overly heavy handed. This was one of the better BIPA's I have had, very hop complex.

11.2 OZ bottle, $5.99 (!) per bottle at Whole Foods Bowery, NYC. Clearly - no bargain...
Best before dating of 09 2015. But why would you sit on such a hop forward beer?
Pours lightly hazed lemony lighter amber. The huge head pretty quickly goes to a frothy film and leaves nice looking fine and scattered lace.
Sweet ripe fruits and some lemon on the nose.
So tasty, so fresh tasting and so dry and hoppy. Citric, fruity, Belgian yeast infused. Quality all the way, with spiced up hops, yeast and citric notes creating a boldly flavorful and complex offering.
The price is prohabitive, but all Belgian IPA lovers and hop heads must give this a try.

A 330ml bottle with a BB of Oct 2015. Picked up a little while back from Trembling Madness in York. The 2013 edition of this beer is hopped with Sorachi Ace, Saaz and Styrian Goldings. I enjoyed last year's version, so hopefully this will live up to expectations.
Poured into a Duvel tulip. Bottle conditioned. A pale gold hue with a hazy translucence and plentiful carbonation. Produces a vast head of fluffy, brilliant-white foam with excellent stability; this slowly reduces to a thick surface layer. Nice lacing. Aroma of bright citrus with hints of lemon, lime, peel and grass/hay, underpinned by fruity yeast esters, phenolics, mild spice and a warming whiff of booze. Rather nice.
Tastes of fruity aroma hops and earthy yeast, with a dry, bitter finish. Notes of lemon, lime, mild peel, grass/hay, white pepper, fruity esters, phenolics, faint spice, earthiness and stewed hops. Highly attenuated, with a faintly spicy quality and a hint of warming alcohol in the background. A restrained, aromatic bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth, dry and tingly, accompanied by hop oils that tantalise the palate. Pleasant carbonation and good body. Somewhat astringent, with an aftertaste of fruity yeast esters, aroma hops and a leafy bitterness.
Tasty - another satisfying blend of Belgian style with aromatic hops. In particular, the lemony notes complement the yeasty character well (something that was also apparent in the 2012 version). It looks great; though Duvel always does. The aroma and flavour are lovely - plenty of light citrus notes accompanied by spicy, earthy yeast. Body is superbly judged. Very nice; if it weren't for the price I'd grab a few more. Worth sampling if you come across it.

Small 330 ml bottle served in a large wine glass. The latest edition of the Tripel Hop pours a golden straw in color with a hint of chill haze. A robust white cap is a welcome sight from the small stubby bottle and shows solid retention.
Aroma is quite different than the classic more yeast driven aroma given the hop blast. Yeast notes are still under the initial smack of hops and blend fairly well. In fact I would say I like them equally. Taste is much more affected than expected from the hopping with a coarse saaz structure throughout the palate. Bit more sweet lemon bread on the finish, coarse and flavorful and hiding the more robust ABV fairly well. Feel is full given the firm carbonation and hop spice on the finish. Overall I find it odd to call all hoppy beers IPA's but this is indeed a very different animal than your classic Duvel, like the twin brother seperated at birth and raised by a different family. Still, in my mind it's a hoppy BSPA and a good one at that.
