Poured on-tap and served in a tulip, the beer is a dark brown color with a thin, frothy, brown, clingy head. Good lacing as you drink. Nose of bitter chocolate and light roasted coffee, with a touch of smokiness. Flavors of bitter coffee, roasty and coffee grounds, with a dark chocolate ribbon throughout. Aftertaste of roastiness and coffee, with a linger in the dry, smooth finish. Thin, smooth bodied throughout. Damn tasty.

22oz bottle. Bottled November 2013. Pours a dark brownish black with an inch of medium brown head. Some lacing. Aromas of vanilla, dark chocolate, coffee, caramel and wood. The taste is vanilla and caramel. Sweet coffee, toffee, and chocolate. Good amount of that vanilla-y oatmeal flavor. Cappuccino at the end. Chocolate finish. Tons of carbonation. Body is a bit lacking. Somewhat thin, but not a huge deal. Overall, solid Oatmeal Stout I'd grab again.

Maybe I'm in the minority here but the only downside for me was a lack of body. I would've preferred more oats.

A - Poured from 22 oz bottle, not quite jet black more of a deep brown/light black. Nice creamy head with good retention.

S - Developed through the bottle initially was rough for me with mostly wood, the vanilla really came through later on with chocolate, coffee and brown sugar there as well.

T - Really nice blend of the coffee, chocolate and vanilla flavors for me. Definitely sweet but not oversweet for me.

M - Definitely some creaminess and presence of oats but for me this could go from an Outstanding to a world-class beer with greater creaminess and richer mouthfeel. It's like 50-75% to the rich mouthfeel I want for the flavor profile and 9%.

Overall a real treat of a beer. Really nice balance of flavors.

Bottled in November of 2013.

A: Pitch black with a fizzy, sticky, medium-brown head that fades into good retention and lace.

S: Massive roasted malt, vanilla, brown sugar, oats and milk sugar, molasses, sweet dark dried fruits, wood, and some booze to finish it up nicely. Extremely complex...although it's technically an Imperial Oatmeal Stout!

T: Along the lines of the nose but sooo much creamier than expected. The oats truly enhance this beer. Many beers of this style allow the oats to come through but this one really makes them known. And I like that...a lot! As it should be, this is a big stout mellowed out with the addition of oats and the greatness they can bring. Wood, roasted malt, caramelized and sweet sugars, as well as booze stand out amongst the myriad flavors.

M: As already stated, beyond smooth & creamy with massive (seriously massive) flavor. So damn delicious. Carbonation and body are strong and on-point as is the finish. Never ever cloying. For real. And although it's a bruiser at 9%, it never detracts from any aspect of the beer (but by the end of the bottle, good feelings are happening).

O: A true breakfast stout, this is honestly up there with Founders' ubiquitous version of the style. In a blind taste test, I wouldn't doubt this beer to be the victor. An absolute joy to drink from first sip to last.

The second glass from a 22oz bottle. From a Tree House Brewery tulip.

Pours dark, very dark. Held up to a light nothing passes through. One inch head is a yummy light brown color. Head disappears after a few minutes and leaves minimal lacing.

Smell is roasted malt, molasses, a bit of chocolate. Not overwhelming.

Taste is like the smell, but much more pronounced. Chocolate, coffee, with a bit of vanilla.

Not a heavy tasting beer. Light on the pallet.

As I was drinking this I thought it was an approachable oatmeal stout for a non beer geek. It seemed easy drinking. Then I looked at the label and saw it was 9%. Whodathunk.
Wormtown does some great things. Can't wait for the barrel aged version of this.
