Great Porter!

A - Pours a dark black chocolate color with a nice 1 1/2 finger coffee colored head

S - Hints of roasty chocolate, coffee and vanilla.

T - Smooth, rich and delicious. Roasted chocolate with the perfect combination of coffee, vanilla and caramel.

M - Medium body, very smooth, excellent carbonation and goes down really easy.

O - Great brew. Hands down the best English Porter out there.

Reviewed from notes on 8/15/11

Bottled March 2011, poured into a standard pint glass.

Pro-Am pours a dark brown almost black body with a good size mocha head with some spotty lacing.

Nose is a bit on the lighter side with some coffee and chocolate notes. Some roasted malt and caramel in there too. Might attribute the lack of punch in the nose to age, but still good.

Very roasty taste with some bittersweet chocolate and coffee notes. The malt profile is good with some caramel that becomes evident in the taste. Not to much of a hop presence, with an ever so slight lingering bitterness.

Creamy and medium bodied with some carbonation on the lower side.

Very well done porter from the brewers at Wormtown, one of the best beers I've had from them to date.

This beer pours dark as night black, thick and oily, with a thin tan head that retreats quickly, leaving a nice Bavarian ring on the glass. Reddish hues are noticeable if you hold the glass up to light.

Smell has hints of fresh roasted coffee, chocolate, dark dried fruits, with just a dash of hoppy citrusy brightness to balance it off.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and active, good carbonation, yet very smooth.

Taste follows the smell-notes of earthy roasted coffee, chocolate malt, and a warming alcohol presence are followed by a subtle chaser of hops that are not at all bitter and cut through the heaviness of the malts with perfection. Awesomely balanced finished.

This is a great porter- superbly drinkable, perfectly balanced, it's a shame this is a one time brew. I may have to stage an "Occupy Wormtown" protest to get this beer brewed year round.

I enthusiastically recommend this beer to all.

650 mL bottle poured into a pint glass. Thanks to BennyL1 for this bottle!

Appearance - Black body that has flecks of red shining through when held up to the light. Nice khaki head tops it and lasts a good bit. Finishes with good lacing. Couldn't ask much more from a porter.

Smell - Standard, but appealing, porter aromas. Light chocolate from the roasted malts and a nice vanilla smell. Coffee rounds out the back end of the aroma.

Taste - Solid, if not powerful flavors. Milk chocolate and coffee, with a smooth vanilla-like sweetness in the back. It finishes with a very earthy hop flavor. Kinda grassy, really. It's the only part that isn't nice.

Mouthfeel - Light bodied, despite being pretty full flavored. It's easy to drink, but it leaves a bit of a strange dryness on the mouth. It makes my teeth feel weird. Yes, that's strange, but that's the way it is.

Overall - A nice, high-quality porter. Not outstanding in many ways, but great to see small breweries putting together beers of this quality.

22oz bottle poured into a long-stem tulip glass.
Bottled in March 2011

A-> Beefy 3 finger head on top of very dark brew that is not quite totally opaque and has a reddish hue when held up to the light.

S-> I'm a tad congested but this smells of classic roasted porter aromas of nutty matls and roasted coffee with a touch of sweet bitter chocolate.

T-> Holy malted porter! Very dark coffe flavors with a hint of the dark chocolate. Also getting a roasted, creamy, nuttiness that accompanies the robust bitter hoppiness.

M-> Taste is full of flavor and very robust however this is not quite full bodied. Medium with a healthy malt bill and pretty dry on the finish. Wonderful yet subtle hop presence.

O-> Really enjoyed this one while not knowing what to expect heading in. Had to figure that it must be good if Ben and the gang went to the trouble of bottling this. Loved the bitter finish. Great work Keith and Ben!

This beer is awesome. It's big, it's roasted, and its almost refreshing in a sense. Very Dark. Hints of chocolate and coffee keep you sipping while that creamy mouthfeel helps you to relax. This beer would be awesome for breakfast. Above all, the taste is spot on. Nutty at first, then a little chocolate milk, followed by burnt toast and a hint of hops. I'll have another!

First Wormtown review, been excited to try their beer.

A- Black ale out of a bomber into a pint glass. Mocha tan head forms to a nice size but doesn't retain all that well. A small pillow and ring fail to leave much lace.

S- A big dose of both dark chocolate roast malt and dark fruits. Not a hugely strong aroma overall. Hints of licorice.

T- A stronger version of the smell. Cocoa, roast malt and dark fruit are again still heavily present. Some earthy hop, vanilla, licorice and toasted nutty hints come through as well.

MF- Moderatly thick body with a good amount of carbonation. Some bitterness in the finish. A bit silky and creamy.

A good porter with plentiful levels of flavor. Something feels a bit thin to me but I still drank this one down easily and enjoyed it.

22oz bottle purchased as a single at Yankee Spirits, Sturbridge, MA.

Poured into an imperial pint glass, formed a 1/2" dark tan head over the barely translucent dark brown brew. Head falls slowly, with a thick coating of lasting lace. Aroma is robust and hearty, full of deep dark malts.

Taste starts a bit worty, with rich nutty maltiness, but not quite the depth indicated by the nose. Continues through with light bitterness coupled with a moderate acrid coffee close. Mouthfeel is super smooth and velvety, and drinkability is superb. This is some good porter.

22oz bottle. Bottled January 2014. Pours a rich black color with over an inch of medium brown head. Lots of lacing. Aromas of chocolate, caramel, coffee, roasted malts, and earth. The taste is chocolate syrup, roasted malts, peat moss, and a hint of smoke. Some light and sweet coffee but rich chocolate syrup is the main flavor. Small amount of citrus hops. Creamy mouthfeel with a good deal of carbonation. Overall, pretty good Porter.
