A - Deep amber with something of a darker haze in the middle. Bigger head than most of the other brews I've had from Wormtown. Recedes fairly quickly but laces really nicely and continuously as it goes down the glass. Really good looking beer.

S - Caramel malts at first fading into a little bit of a faint chocolatey aroma. Roasted piney hops to the max on the end. Also very nice. Very impressed so far.

T - Fairly sweet malts up front and piney hops in the back. A good amount of them. I like the creativity here, putting the hops in the back. It works well with this beer. Quite hoppy. Like it.

M - Medium bodied. Carbonation is where it should be. There's still a little something missing on the swallows of the Wormtowns. They enter like a legit good beer and go down like water.

D - Highly drinkable. Had plans tonight to split this growler with a friend and play some chess but he cancelled and I actually think I might end up just drinking it all by myself. Very drinkable. Pretty delicious. Best beer I've had from Wormtown yet and, in fact, on another level than their others. Their others were good, but could improve on a lot of things. This one is very good and could only really improve on the mouthfeel. The mouthfeel remains to be this brewery's flaw, but given the progress that I've seen from them, I'm sure they will address that.

A- Black but not oily thick midnight black, just on the cusp of blackened. White foamy head forms to about a finger with OK retention.

S- Hops take precedence but they are hard to describe to me. Not much roast or malts in general. Has a big general berry note to me with herbal, citrus and floral as well. Slight cereal grains.

T- Again the hops hit me with a big fruity herbal thing that feels like berries. Somewhat floral and earthy too. Pineapple and intense orange peel open up with warmth. Cocoa, cereal grains and caramel as well.

MF- Moderate carbonation in a standard body of IPA thickness. Lighter end bitterness in the finish.

Solid Black IPA but there isn't as rich of a base beer compared to others.

22oz bottle purchased as a single from somewhere localish.

Poured into a CCB pub glass, formed a 1/2" tan head over the clear burgundy brew. Head recedes gradually, with frothy lacing. Aroma is roasted grains and pine.

Taste is rich sweetness upfront, light pine in the middle, and a rounded bitterness through the close. Mouthfeel is soft and smooth, and drinkability is good. Looking forward to the second bottle I have in the fridge.

Tap at peppercorns,

Dark molasses brown beer little light coming through, creamy 1 finger head fades semi slowly. Nice lacing notches for each sip.

Nose of earthy and light spicy hops, touch of herbal hop, some light creamy darker malts, touch of dark crystal and hint of roast.

Taste starts with a nice dark earthy malt bite, creamy crystal and roasted malts,  touch of coffee, caramel, light sweetness, all wrapped with a nice light earthy grassy and little spicy hop, touch of pine, decent bitterness but not a lot, balanced fairly well. finish lingers with some earthy grassy hops and a bit more bitterness, a bit dry, bit of roasty malts.

Mouth is med bodied w good carb,

Drink is good, balanced well, decent dry finish,  no booze, and bitterness starts  to get a bit heavier on the finish but never gets too overwhelming.

Thanks to Kevin for sharing this.

Pours a dark brown with a beige head that retains well, leaves good lace.

All sharp hops in the scent, an odd mix of danky, herbal, minty. Not much blackness to speak of.

Taste is a bit more balanced but this is quite big on the hops, not so much on the black. A decent plethora of grapefruit, grassy, earthy, citrus. Some dark caramel malts and dark fruit.

Solid mouthfeel, good carbonation level and pretty easy drinking.

Kind of a weird hop profile to me but pretty decent overall, not your typical black IPA.

Had on tap at Cambridge Common 2/11
Served in a pint glass

A: This beer pours a deep, dark brown. A one finger of light brown head site on top. Sheets of lacing are left on the glass.

S: Nose is chalk full of roasted malts, coffee, and a touch of piney hop notes.

T: Taste starts with deep, charred, roasted malts. Nice coffee, espresso flavoring. Finish has a hint of citrus, and a nice piney hop presence that blends back in with a bit of coffee that hangs on the tongue.

M: Medium body, medium carbonation, nice creamy body.

D: Goes down easily, very tasty, not too filling, milk kick and a very nice representation of style. This is worth drinking for a while.

A dark black brown color with a very healthy tan head and lots of lacing. The aroma offers a minty evergreen with herbal hop balance. Very enticing. The flavor brings lots of green leaf bitterness and watery malt. I get some very mild molasses with a hint of charcoal bite and lemony freshness. Flavorful enough but a tad watery in feel with a light-plus body constitution and mild carbonation. A little more body and a little more hop profile would have helped what is otherwise an average black ipa. I expected more from Wormtown but nothing bad here, well worth a try.

A: A nice dark brown pour with a huge dense light brown head atop it. Retention is excellent as the head barely fades away at all. Leaves pretty thick fluffy lines of lacing on the glass.

S: Loads of citrus and pine in the nose, more like an IPA than anything. You can just discern the roasted malt behind it, offering up some nice chocolate and roast characteristics. Some bitter coffee as it warms, plus a herbal/earthy presence is noted.

T: Interestingly not as hop-forward as most. Initially there is a bit of that herbal/earthiness mixed with roasted malt, and THEN there is a big burst of citrus and piney hops in the middle. Very mild roasted malt throughout. Pine, resin and herbal hops linger in the aftertaste.

M: A bit thin (it IS only 6%), would have worked better with a little more heft. Very drying in the aftertaste.

O: Very nice black IPA. Quite hoppy without a lot of roasted malt - mainly due to the relative weakness of the beer. I think an 8%-10% version with a stronger roasted malt presence and a thicker mouthfeel would be amazing. Call it Dark Day 1.5? Not to say that this is a bad black ipa, it's balanced quite a bit more towards the IPA side and not the "black" side. Could have garnered 4.5s on taste and mouthfeel as well.
