Very cold bottle poured into Stone IRS glass. Bottles July 2012.

A. Between 1 and 2 finger white foamy head forms that slowly goes down leaving behind some lacing and rocky foam. The body is a hazy orange burst that reminds me of a middle school photo shot. Carbonation is pretty active in the glass when I play around with it. Looks pretty nice.

S. Grassy and piney hops come out big time right away. Some bitter citrus like lemon and grapefruit are present behind the pine. Somewhat sweet toward the end of the nose.

T. Piney green bitterness upfront that fades to some grapefruit. Malt comes out in the middle when the bitterness comes down. Finish is pretty tame with a light floral and citrus flavor. Interesting IPA but I feel its missing anther component.

M. Medium to heavier thickness on the tongue and finished somewhat sticky. Somewhats heavy carbonation explodes after every sip making a pretty full feeling beer.

O. I like how Wormtown utilized hops in every possible area of the brew. Definitely an interesting brew and glad I was able to drink one.

Was really looking forward to trying this since I liked an IPA or two of theirs, and enjoy DIPAs.

Bottled Feb. 2014.

Poured from the 22 oz. bomber into a Tree House snifter.

a: Hazy orange with an inch tall white head which receded to patchy surface foam and dense lacing.

s; Onion and citrus.

t: Sharp oniony hop bite up front over a hefty malt base. Bitterness lingers on the sides of the tongue to a nearly cloying degree.

m: Medium plus, lots of carbonation tingle.

o: First IPA I have had where the word "onion" is foremost in describing flavor. It mellows out somewhat to a more piney presence later, but onion remains identifiable in the aroma and slightly tinges the taste.

I have enjoyed a couple of other Wormtown IPA/Pale Ales on draft and they have been very good. This one, not so much. But given its high rating, I have to consider that two months has wreaked some havoc on the taste.

look: 4.25 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4.25

Appearance: Pours a slightly hazy amber color with a massive, rocky head that retains nicely and leaves a copious amount of lace

Smell: Pine forward, with citrusy tones of tangerine and orange pith; caramel and a hint of onion round out the aromatics

Taste: Toffee and shortbread malt flavors produce a backbone, but this is all about a hop explosion, with pine and tangerine flavors dominating; bright citrusy flavors linger into the finish and, along with the sweetness from the malt, produce a man candy sensation in the aftertaste

Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with moderate carbonation

Overall: An impressive DIPA from a brewery I would like to spend more time exploring, having also enjoyed their Be Hoppy

Thanks, Denzo, for the opportunity

Cloudy apricot pour with a frothy 2 finger head that really stays put, leaves solid lacing in the Fiddlehead tulip.Fantastic looking unfiltered IIPA, great start.

Aroma is quite citrusy and hop forward, as this warms up, the grapefruit and orange tones become more prominent. There is a pine presence in the nose, slightly herbal as well.

Hopulence is one of those IIPAs that starts out tasty when it is cold, and becomes delicious as it warms up. The citrus and pine really come together, bright orange and grapefruit notes are really enjoyable. Pleasant bitterness rests at the back of the palate without ever becoming overbearing throughout the bomber.

Mouthfeel is medium, slightly oily, excellent carbonation.

Hopulence deserves a World Class rating more so than Wormtown's Be Hoppy IPA (which is a fine IPA by all standards) for my tastes. There is a complexity Hopulence exudes that commands respect, but much of that enjoyment occurs as it warms up, so be sure to take your time with this one. Bottled in February 2014 and thoroughly enjoyed in March 2014. Get a hold of this one if you can, this certainly does have the character of a small batch brew as the label suggests. Excellent IIPA, period.

Orangey honey colored and slightly hazed with a thick and frothy, lumpy head of white foam that settles out slowly, leaving thick sheets up the sides of the glass. Big aroma of grapefruit and tangerine, hints of pine.

Big citrusy flavors right upfront, grapefruit rind, pine tangerine, and orange pith. Citrus stays long and heavy on the pallet. Honey malt rides beneath, but the hops really dominate.

Even mouthfeel, slightly tannic, finishes tingly. Really good beer overall. Only criticism is that the use of many hop varieties and adding them at every possible step in the brew process creates an onslaught of hop power that can be a bit one-dimensional. But that onslaught can also be pretty tasty.

Poured from a bottle appropriate carbonation and head with lasting resiny lace.
Incredible hop nose mostly amarillo with cascade this from a bottle 3 months old. Perfectly balanced you wouldnt guess this had 120 IBUs so well crafted. Mouthfeel perfect for style cant say anything negative about this brew. Overall a great double Ipa with impressive nose, flavor, mouthfeel, and 8.5%ABV. Would definatle buy again!!!

On-tap at Peppercorn's. 10oz. pour served in a short pilsener glass. Pours a burnt orange hue with a hazy clarity and a loose, quarter inch, bright white head that quickly dissipates into a soapy slick. Some textured spots of lacing are revealed during the tasting. Nose is almost non-existent; however, there's a suggestion of sweet citrus and bitter rind. These qualities become a little more defined as the brew warms. Taste is great - a big citrus bomb with lots of sweet tangerine followed by bitter zest on a pleasant, light toasted malt backbone. A slightly herbal character begins to develop as the beer warms. There's also some residual ethanol present at the finish. Mouthfeel is light-medium in body with a pleasant carbonation that falls just shy of prickly. Overall, an excellent citrusy DIPA. Nice to have this brewery so close by and under the radar.
