Growlette was poured into a large Duvel snifter.

Appearance: A one finger white brown head was poured that reduced to a thin layer. It is a copper amber color with good clarity and vision of bubbles coming up through the glass. Spotty lacing down the glass as the beer was drank too.

Smell: Nutty, toasted, bready, biscuity, caramel, and fruity. Some alcohol in there too.

Taste: Same as above. Tastes like a mixture between a nut brown ale and English Strong or Old ale.

Mouthfeel: Chewy, medium bodied, a little alcohol, medium carbonation, and a bit smooth.

Overall: Pretty content with this one. Growlette is gone and that means the beer was enjoyed.

Served in a snifter at Peppercorns. Pours an amber/mahogany hue with a creamy, quarter inch, bright white head that eventually disperses into a bullseye dollop and a solid band around the shoulders. Not much to the nose - subtle nuances of malt and fruity esters. Some ethanol makes an appearance as the beer warms. Taste consistent with nose with the addition of some toasted, bready malts. Mouthfeel is medium-light in body with a mild carbonation and some ethanol-induced astringency at the back. Overall, pretty spot on for the style.

Tap at peppercorns

Light fizzy head fades at a med pace in the snifter, semi clear cranberry ruby reddish colored beer.

Nose some sweet caramel malts, light biscuit and aromatic malt aroma, a touch of booze tickles the nose, sweet syrupy malt toffee, reddish sweet malt, just a touch of earthy hop.

Taste starts with a big malt profile, sweet syrupy malts but not too syrupy or thick feeling. Malts bring light toffee and caramel, more biscuit and sweet reddish malts. Hops come out strong too, big earthy slight spicy chewy hop base with fair bitterness. Booze is there too, drinks like a sub 8% beer with warmth, touch of tingle, and faint hint of esters even. Finish is fairly bitter with a long spicy chewy earthy hop lingering taste, semi sticky, lingering biscuit and toffee malts.

Mouth is on the fuller bodied side, good carb, booze warmth, slight sticky syrupy.

Overall nice winter sipper, nice malts, hops are decent but hit a bit too much for this beer I think, booze is on par, maybe even more esters would be nice.

A deep rusty amber color, fairly clear with a slightly rosy glow. The head is modest in this medium sized snifter served at Peppercorns next to the brewery in Worcester. It's a fine white foam leaving a commendable lace behind. The nose delivers firm caramel malt with an apple-sherry kiss. Maybe a bit of a grassy bitterness floating around as well. The taste includes a little more vinegar bite with more of the smooth caramel sweetness, sherry malt all blended tastefully. Alcohol comes forth with a bit of a whiskey idea but this drinks easy enough for the style none the less. Body is medium-full with a sufficient tangy bit of carbonation and a moderately viscous feel. Not bad at all, I would gladly revisit.

Enjoyed at Peppercorn's. This is 68the IBUs and won a bronze medal at the 2012 GIBF. Poured into a standard tulip.

A - Poured a nice crystal clear deep honeyed amber with a nice quarter inch head that fades to leave light wisps and a thin halo. Very light side lacing as well.

S - Aromas are quite pleasant sweet almost candied malts with subtle roasted notes. Hops are there but faint and almost overpowered by caramel and gentle toffee. Very faint alcohol presence.

T - Taste is similar to the nose with more sweet malts and toffee with just enough faint hops to balance it out. The light bready notes are slightly overpowered by alcohol and that caramel but as it warms the alcohol comes out.

M - Mouthfeel is good with a bit low sharp carbonation. Really helps offset the alcohol notes and prevents it from being sticky.

O - Overall I really enjoyed this strong ale. The carbonation really sealed the deal for me. Nicely done but a definite sipper nevertheless.
