This red ale was aged in Merlot barrels ans Cabernet sauvignon hogshead (300L wooden barrels) for 3 months then aged in conditioning tanks for an additional week on a half pound of raspberries per gallon.

A - Poured into a ...wine glass... a glorious red ale fruit juice combo hue with a one finger off white head that faded to leave nice thin blanket and lacing. In a wine glass no less!

S - Aromas of deep red wine and barrels. Lots of Merlot and Cabernet here along with rich wood. That vinuos wine quality is mingled perfectly by bright tart raspberry flesh and seed.

T - Taste is full of almost too mellow. Good blending of vinuos wine notes with alot of. Merlot and raspberry juice. Really just a great mingling of wine and lightly tart berries. There are some nice light barrel notes here with not a hint of alcohol. Its very balanced.

M - Mouthfeel is excellent. Pleasantly sharp and crisp this really goes down good and thanks to the taste almost smooth.

O - Overall this was a delicious beer. Good mingling of wine and fruit, solid appearance, nose isn't bad either. Nice raspberry offering.

On-tap 7/6/2014 at Battleship Brewhouse in Fall River, MA served in a US tumbler glass.

A: The beer is a deep coppery brown color, with a short off-white head that fades quickly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains strong an odd fruitiness that I can’t place. There is also honey, berries, caramelized malts and a touch of hops.

T: The taste starts out sweet with flavors of dark fruit, honey and caramel. Then a hearty but not too heavy malt character comes in. The hops presence is very mild and creates a decent balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and a little smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: A little tasty, goes down ok, not too filling, decent kick, odd representation of style, there are definitely better beers in the style.

Tap at Peppercorns.

Light fizzy pinkish head fades at a med pace with nice wavy lacing, slight hazy maroon cherry red color some pinkish hue.

Nose is great, plenty of raspberries, mostly like rasp puree, a big red wine aroma as well, vinous with a slightly earthy smooth red wine, a light cranberry tartness, light oaky almost barrel aroma with hint if vanilla. A light sweet candy malt base.

Taste is slightly different, the raspberry does come out in front, pureed raspberry, raspberry seed and step like bitterness and tannins, plenty of juicy fruit, etc. Then red wine, light cabernet flavor, smooth but earthy red wine like the nose bit more prominent here. Very light vanilla oak, as well as a sweet malt candy base, almost chewy amber malt. There seems to be light spicy chewy hops somewhere in there, fair bitterness overall, and light tannins. The bright fruit fades a bit as it moves to the finish, which is syrupy and sticky but not too sweet, bit more bitterness and plenty of lingering candied raspberry, light red wine, and slight bitter tannins from raspberry seeds and stems it seems like.

Mouth is med bodied, nice fluffy carb.

Overall nice but not as good as I expected. Nose was great, but flavor left a little too be desired as I had built this way up in my mind. However, still a great beer with nice raspberry especially in the nose, and some flavor, a bit of bitter tannic seed and step from teh raspberries as well, and some nice wine barrel additions. I think I was just expecting a big raspberry pure awesomness, and this still has a nice beer balance, so still a good beer overall.
