I visited this store on a recent road trip to Cleveland to see one of my favorite death metal bands, Nile.

Tucked away on the south shore of Lake Erie an hour east of Cleveland lies the sleepy highway town of Ashtabula Ohio. Somehow one of my compatriots heard about this place called Slappy's. Extolling its wealth of alcoholic beverages he was quite insistent on us making a stop there on the way. So with some trepidation I agreed.

Since we didn't know the exact location of the place we had to stop at a gas station where a friendly local was more than willing to show us the way, and so we followed. The exterior blended in with the rest of the areas quite well, that is to say suburban strip mall wasteland.
Walking inside revealed to us that not only was this a liquor store but also a CD, snacks and lotto shop, one stop shopping at its finest. Inside the wall to wall carpeting gave the place a homey kind of feel helps by the kitsch, notably Jack Daniels penguins, liberally sprinkled throughout the store.

The booze selection didn't quite live up to the hype we'd been fed none the less there was quite a bit to choose from. Though there is quite a bit of space dedicated to Macro swill the craft beer section is pretty good especially for Ohio Micros like Great Lakes along with selections of the usual suspects; Rouge, Brooklyn etc... I ended up grabbing a bottle of Brooklyner Hopfen-Weisse. The pricing is pretty dirt cheap to boot, most items under $10. In addition to the beer they have a fairly substantial liquor section worth browsing.

In conclusion it's not that amazing of a store but if you're every in Ashtabula for some reason it's your best bet for some good beer.
