Draft pour into a pilsner flute at Vintage brewpub in Madison.
A: Clear, brassy golden color with spotty white foam residue. Scant lacing remains on the glass and fine streams of bubbles rise in the column from the bottom and sides of the glass.
S: Very mild, clean--what is detectable is dominated by dried grass and biscuit malt.
T: Begins off-dry, with fermented bready malt and crisp, slightly spicy hop aromatics. Mild acidity does not threaten the delicate sweetness present. A trace of soapiness is detected prior to the middle, where malt becomes drier and more biscuity. Slightly spirituous grain lingers during the finish--in the presence of faint, airy bitterness.
M: Thin to medium viscosity, slightly acidic but fairly balanced, with moderate carbonation.
D/O: A passable maibock, identifiable to style. It suffers from a lack of any real distinguishing quality, other than a detergent-like flavor common to other Vintage beers.
