This is the 6/25/13 variation of the beer. Black in color and nearly entirely impenetrable to light. A fingernail of khaki colored head almost entirely. Brussels lacing. Aroma of sweet bourbon is dominant, but there is also plenty of dark malt. The taste is sweet bourbon giving way to more dark malt. There isn't much going on at the back of the palate or the fade. The mouth is thick and chewy.

My first beer from these guys

Pours mahogany with 2 fingers of caramel colored head. Good head retention & lacing

S: Bourbon, vanilla, some dark fruit

T: Bourbon notes, oaky dryness & a touch of caramel. Some charcoal notes along with carob & dark chocolate as this warms, some plummyness. Finishes dry, with chocolate sweetness & boozey warmth

MF: Chewy, boozey & low carbonation

A decent RIS, not a great take on this style, but worthy of a go

Pouring into my 10 Barrel Brewing snifter, it is a little frothy. ( maybe I jostled it?)

Pretty dark brownish-black collar, head is calming down after a minute, and is fluffy and tan, looks inviting.

I get a bit of the whiskey barrel in the nose after a solid swirling , but not much until it is swirled.

Very drinkable, nice little whiskey sweetness, no bitterness in the aftertaste.

Yeah this is not too bad, a nice little barrel - aged beer, I like that no bitter flavors are present, sometimes you get that a bit in these, overall it was nice to try, I think it was around $10, so not a bad deal, but prolly not gonna seek out another, like I would with some of the other real popular barrel stouts.

Big thanks to my grandpa for this bottle! You're the best FTowne!

A- Pours a dark cola brown with a head explosion. Like... litterally there was a nuclear reaction in my glass. Took me multiple attempts to get a full glass. Retention like a mofo

S- Nice hints of whiskey and chocolate. Some coffee and general roasted malt in there as well. Faint on the nose but still smells very nice

T- More intense version of the nose which is great! I'm loving all this whiskey and chocolate. Would drink this everyday

M- Nice and smooth, its lighter than most BA stouts but its a nice change of pace on the mouthfeel.

O- No complaints about anything and the taste is great. I'd drink this again in a heartbeat

Great beer I just tried the 6/25/13 edition of this beer. It is the same beer basically, it is their barrel aged program. They put the date on it each year they brew it. Great chocolate smell, roasty flavor, whiskey aroma and flavor compliment the stout.

Enjoying this with my good friend pschul4.

A: Pours dark brown with about an inch of head. Some serious retention on the edge of the glass. The foam does not dissipate.

S: Smells damn good. Scents of coffee roast and a little bit of whiskey like bite.

T: NIce coffee notes and roastiness with a little bit of hoppy bitterness at the end.

M: Pretty thin. More thickness would add a lot to this beer.

O: All in all a pretty good, above average Russian Imperial Stout. Definitely worth a try.

Another oddball tick shared by Mike (AgentZero). Served in a Russian River tulip.

A - A finger-plus of tan foam settles to a thin cap, thick collar, and some splotches of lace. Black body with some hints of brown at the edges of the glass.

S - Boozy whiskey, with some distinctive green apple going on. Base beer has notes of molasses, dark chocolate, dark bread, and toasted grains. It's pretty hot, but otherwise it's not too bad, particularly when it warms up.

T - The taste is a bit odd and shows a disconnect from the aroma. There's a buttermilk chocolate flavor that's evocative of the 'off' Odin's Raven and Token batches from Alpine. Some biscuit malts and vanilla are presence, but the intense whisky in the aroma is nowhere to be found.

M - Medium body, with zesty and unpleasantly harsh carbonation. Melted chocolate texture, and a dry and tannin-heavy finish. Not overly hot, even with the booze-laden aroma.

D - Mike thought this was infected, but I'm not convinced that's necessarily the case. I did find the flavor to be underwhelming and while I took a second pour I wasn't able to finish it. Might get better as the alcohol mellows but I can think of umpteen barrel-aged stouts I'd rather drink.
