Bottle # 33 of 365, generously shared by my friend Billy. poured into a Tulip Glass.

A - Pours a dark reddish-brown with a soapy off-white head that fades to a slight haze and ring.
S - Big aromas of vinegar, oak, leather, dried cherries, and a touch of Bourbon. it's my understanding that this was a Barleywine that went sour in the barrel, and it certainly smells like it!
T - Not as sour as the nose suggests, instead there's a very nice level of balance and complexity, with flavors of chocolate, malt vinegar, leather, oak, and cherries. Perfect melding between a Barleywine and a Flanders ale.
M - Smooth, fairly creamy, with a medium mouthfeel and good carbonation.
O - A really unique beer, so glad I got to experience this!

Had this one during the 'We Want The Funk!' tasting that was graciously hosted by beermeX2! Big thanks goes out to beermeX2 for sharing this one with the group! Bottle #92 of 365! Served from bottle into a Mikkeller flute. Poured brown with a minimal cream colored head. Maintained decent lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, wood, sweet alcohol, and sour. The flavor was of sweet malt, wood, sweet alcohol, sour, and tart. It had a medium feel on the palate with medium carbonation. Ovearll this was a decent brew. Not sure what was up with the sour and tart aspect going on in this one at all. Really seemed out of place for the style, but didn't totally destroy the beer. You could definitely tell this baby had been barrel aged as the aroma and flavor both screamed 'BARREL' at the top of their lungs. Really well done brew, but just a little off-putting with the sour/tart character I got. Worth trying though despite this fact...

cannot thank derek enough for sending me this one. had no idea it ever existed until he sent it to me. poured into a ccb glass

pours out a dark hazelnut color with only a minimal head that does not stick around too long but what is there is clinging to the sides and nice ans sticky. aroma is warming, lots of boozy notes, vanilla and oak coming through the air very clearly now, really showing off what it can do for sure. a nice and well rounded mix of bourbon, caramel, dark roasted malts, nice hints of toffee, and vanilla and a light brown sugar that seems to pop up in the finish. really nicely blended and a well deserved finish was smooth, silky and full of sweet flavor.

750mL bottle into a Duvel glass pours a deep murky brown with a thin light tan head that diminishes to a ring and leaves no lacing on the glass. Aroma is dried fruit in front of oak and burnt caramel. The taste is an interesting kick of sweet dried fruits in front of mild oak and under-toned hops, the beer just a tad on the sour side, quite unique. The beer is on the heavy side of medium with mild carbonation. This is a very interesting and enjoyable beer. Happy 1st anniversary to Natty Greene's Raleigh, here's to many more!
