My local! I've been buying beer here for a number of years now. McHughs is located on The Kilbarrack Road, and they also have a store on the Malahide Road also.
Known as one of the best stores for select beer in Dublin and rightly so. McHughs has a great rep within the craft beer community and has won awards over the years. They stock a formidable selection of Beers with an emphasis on Belgians, UK, US, & German beers. They also stock quite a few Irish Craft beers to date.
From my experience you will find year round availability of some great Belgian beers - Chimay range, Westmalle Dubbel & Tripple, Orval, St. Bernardus range, Golden Carolus, Rochefort, several Leffe's, Delirium Tremens, etc. In terms of UK & US brews, I find they change their stock quite a bit as new beers come in. You will find beers from the likes of Fullers & Youngs year round but you also a wide range of the lesser known but equally good brews. Some examples of UK beers on my last visit are Hook Norton, Brewdog, Harvistoun, Williams Bros, Adnams, & Meantime.
Their US selection has gone from strength to strength over the years with some incredible beers appearing. From what I can see it is almost impossible for them (or any good beer store here) to consistently keep certain US micro's on the shelves as allot of the time when these beers hit Ireland it can be a once off shipment and you may not see that beer again, however there are exceptions to this with beers from Goose Island, Sierra Nevada, and Anchor being available continuously. Rather than list some of the great US micros I've been lucky enough to try I will give you an idea of what they had on my last visit: Dogfish Head (60 & 90 minute IPA's, Palo Santo Marron, raison d'etre) Sierra Nevada (Pale Ale, Stout, Porter, Harvest Wet Hop Ale, Torpedo & Anniversary Ale) Anchor (Liberty, Old Foghorn, Bock) Goose Island (IPA, Oatmeal Stout, Borboun County Stout) and so on so forth!
The staff are very helpful and on top of that knowledgeable. They know their beers and they are enthusiastic about them. I know most of the guys in there now and it's always nice to have a good beer chat with them. I'm lucky in the sense I live so close but if I didn't I would still be making frequent trips. Great store.
