First try of this new Portland pico-brewery; a 10 oz. pour at Bailey's Taproom.
A: Ebony darkness, but falls shy of true blackness. Good head of ultra-creamy suds, a vanilla-yellowish tinge. Plenty of sticking lace, too. One of the more attractive stouts I've seen in a while.
S: All husk and whiffs of smokiness; malt grains and bits of sweet toffee. Earthy and somewhat 'dirty'.
T: Cocoa-filled and quite dark, a nearly-charred graininess. Traces of sweeter things like caramel, even a little vanilla; likewise small moments of tartness. It all stays pretty interesting, if not entirely innovative.
M: Smooth and generally creamy, a little on the 'light' side (meaning the 'imperial-ness' takes some time to creep in). Good carbonation, busy-bodied.
D: Nicely done stout, with good balance and ample flavor. A pleasant surprise to find this on-tap today, one I'd gladly have again.
