On tap at Rattle 'N' Hum. A very good sour, dark reddish body with no head. Simplistic,simply very sour cherry .A little vinegar balanced by some malt. Medium mouthfeel, though some fruitness as if the skins of the cherry there. Some lace dots. I cannot pass up this style.Suitably carbonated.

One of the best beers I have ever had, hands down. A revelation. Fruity, sour, complex, and extremely well-balanced. An accomplishment. Only downside is that other beers don't taste as good anymore by comparison.

Good beer, I like it. It has a great smooth sour taste (does not make you flinch), almost like traditional balsamic (however I do not find it sweet). No pungency. I also noticed that it kind of "burned" my nose when drinking it (not detectable in the subtle smell). Would have again.

Served in a wine glass. Ruby red with a small white head. Lots of fruit in the aroma, mainly berries with strawberry coming through the most. Sour, salty, and smooth. Really easy to drink and just the right amount of tartness. Think gose combined with a fruit lambic. I accidentally knocked my glass over on the bar but, thankfully, was able to save the majority of it, because this is one delicious beer!

On tap at Sessions in Greensboro.Poured into a tulip glass a deep ruddy brown mixed with a cherry color with a fluufy off white head atop.Deep sour cherry and dry sherry notes in the nose,a little intimidating for a non-sour lover like me.Sherry-like woody flavors mixed with sour cherries on the palate,when I say sour I mean sour like sherry vinegar and tart cherries.IT's a great beer for what it is,Iam not a huge fan of the style but I know it fits the bill very well.

Picked up a four-pack of this at a local liquor store; three batches later and Batch 01 is still sitting there on the shelf. The beer pours a muddled and fairly deep shade of brown, looking more like a dense, dark red or ruby color when held to the light. From a distance, the beer could fool you for an Oud Bruin, but it is indeed a Flanders Red. The cap is a fast growing, big-bubbled, soapy formation that sinks immediately a skin, and leaves some nice lacing in the process.

The aroma is fantastic; right on par for the style, only taking it up another notch in the complexity. Sour and rich black cherries, grape skins, wet oak, heavy vinegar, tart lemon, and the lightest inclusion of vanilla and cocoa. Extremely vinous, acidic, and tart - my nostrils are flaring at the thought of how sour this is going to be. The layered aspect of the aromatic profile is wonderful.

Balsamic vinegar notes are also abound on the nose, though not as powerful and forward as in something like Rodenbach Grand Cru. Another heap of vinous oak, cherries, and apples round out the edges and have me sitting there in a daze. Just from the aroma, I know this beer is going to taste wonderful, and I couldn't be more excited to bring it to my face.

And, wow! I'm immediately taken back as a tsunami of sour cherries, vinegar, grapes, oak, lactic acid, and vanilla washes over my taste buds and instantaneously sets off the alarm in my saliva glands. Puckering isn't a strong enough word to describe the tartness of this beer - it surely is a doozy. The fruits are extremely vibrant and just pop out with each and every sip.

The authentic, layered labyrinth of flavors from the aroma translates nicely on the palate; the cherry sourness, grape and wine vinous notes, acetic and lactic acid, mild vanilla and cocoa undertones, and the dry oak and barrel profiles all work together to form a complete nirvana for the senses. Very harmonious in nature, and executed elegantly. The body is thin-medium with high carbonation; slick, oily, and wet on the palate, despite the dry finish.

Seriously awesome beer, and I can't believe you can find this stuff on the shelves regularly. Well... at least whenever they release a new batch. I believe this is aged for about 18 months in oak barrels, and you can definitely tell. Super complex, tart, dry, layered; completely drinkable despite the heavy acidity and sharpness it provides the mouth. Top notch and highly recommended.

11.2 oz. bottle poured into a basic tulip glass.

I've had the beer several times on tap and enjoyed it, it wasn't until bottles came to Chicago that I really thought how awesome this beer is.

It pours a deep crimson/ruby with a light ivory head and low amount of lacing. Tiny bubbles rest on the surface.

The aroma is nearly perfect, it strikes a balance between sweet cherry aromas and the nose tingling acid with just a little caramelized sugar.

The flavor is just perfect. It's everything I'm looking for in a Flanders Red. It's just got bit of candy sugar sweetness up front. Then the tart mouth puckering acid develops. It's not nearly as acidic as a good lambic but it's also not a straight lacto sour either. It really toes the delicate line between complimentary vinegar flavor and just pour it on a salad. I just love it. Tart cherry flavors all over and it finishes with a nice sour patch kid thing.

The carb is just right, gentle and present but not too high as to increase the harsh flavors. The aftertaste consist soley of lingering acid, just like the aftertaste of a sour candy.

To keep it short this is probably the best Flanders Red I've ever had, Oude Tart can give it a good run for it's money though. Flanders is my favorite style as well so I've tasted a few in my life. It's just outstanding and only better that's it now widely available year round and only $22 per 4 pack.

Pours a nice one and a half fingers worth of a foamy white head. Very clear deep amber/mahogany body. A nice white ring of head remains throughout, some lacing.

Smells of apple vinegar, carmel, light funk like a wild sour, light oakyness, tart cherry and some bready malts.

Big tart sour cherry funkyness. Like a fermented cherry pie. Light toffee and carmel. Light oakyness and apple cider vinegar in the taste as well. Quite sour mid palate, like a big sweet tart candy.

Medium thin bodied, medium carbonation. This feels quite smooth and pleasant at first. Yet quite dry and puckering on the finish.

Overall this is a very satisfying and tasty sour beer. Great sourness combined with a great base beer. I'd easily get this again. This is in a ball park of a Rodenbach but the mix of bug's is fairly different.

The beer pours a dark reddish-amber with a tan colored head. The aroma is very wine like with some tart grapes and cherries as well as some woody notes. The flavor is very dry with lots of medium tart cherries and grapes. There is also some tannic oak notes. This is a very wine like beer that is very easy to drink.

330mL bottle from the LCBO. Can't remember the last time a Flemish Sour found itself on the shelves.

Poured into a Duvel tulip. Dark chestnut ruby as it should be, with a half inch of sticky foam that forms a thick ring and some wild patches in the centre. Looks just fine indeed.

Nose is rich and surprisingly diverse for a sour beer, though make no mistake - the sour is certainly there. Tart cherry, underripe grapes, raspberries, roses (something floral, at any rate), raisins and a mild yeast complement a lovely acidity. Top notch stuff.

Tastes as good as it smells. This right here is a stellar Flemish sour, that provides an excellent acidity with berries, floral notes and a touch of wine for balance. There's a slight fruity sweetness that hits you just before you take the sip, with raspberries and cherry juice, followed by a tart, but manageable sour vinegar flavor, which lingers long after the sip and makes me thirsty for more. If it weren't such a risk of getting serious heart burn, I could drink several of these in one evening.

Great stuff here, a top-class Flemish sour. I find myself drawn more and more to the sour, dry Belgian fare, and this brew does the job terrifically. Certainly will stock up on some of these while I still can.

Dark reddish brown with moderate, long lasting head. Sour cherries with vanilla notes, slightly sweet with a strong tart finish. So much like the Monks Flemish Sour Ale in taste and appearance, I wonder if they are not in fact of the same style instead of being classified as an Oud Bruin.

A dark ruby and chestnut brown. Nearly no head. Decent lacing down the glass.

Not nearly as strong of an aroma as I've come to expect with Flanders Reds, and certainly not as strong as my favorites within the style. There's nothing off, just not a lot of anything, even after significant warming. Some tart and sweet fruit and a touch of vinegar, but nothing too potent.

This beer makes up for in tart, biting, delicious sour flavor where it lacks in aroma. Nearly perfect. Distinct earth and cherry in the flavor, along with a darker fruit--plum?

Light to medium bodied. A pleasure to sip.

Great balance of acidic sour and sweet fruit flavors. A delicious and classic example of the style--disappointed I couldn't pull off more aroma from this one.

Pours a deep amber with creamy dense head. Aroma of citric acid, with strong sour cherry presence. Sour cherry carries into the taste, and is joined by tart blackberry and granny smith apple. Lactic acid comes on strong, with an astringent puckerieness. Leaves my mouth feeling puckered a dry. Refreshing and delicious--a classic Flanders red, sour and assertive without the velvety complexity of oud bruins. Yummy

Fantastic stuff ! By far my favorite sour beer. As far as Flanders are concerned I consider this to be the standard.

Appearance: thick, dark syrup look - dark brown, red, and amber all fighting for dominance; pours a solid, almond head

Aroma: tart cherry raspberry, currant; hint of sweetness, like a pie

Taste & Mouthfeel: careful with that first sip! mouth-puckering sour fruit is an assault on the tastebuds; very fresh and juicy again with raspberry, cherry, and especially red currants; light and crisp with low carbonation; not a lot of body, really feels like an adult fruit juice

Overall: bright and exciting flavours make it an amazing sour, but too intense to have in large quantities.

At Toronado. Pours a dark amber/brown w minimal lace. Strong funk and tartness up front, cherries, green apple, hops and lime. Flavors are intense sour cherry, apple, raisin and the slightest vanilla and tobacco. This is a rich, young and explosive sour beer, easily aged for another decade.

Was accidentally delivered this while at Stone. Liked it so much, ordered another.

Bright red with amazing clarity, looked more wine than beer, a nice claret. Aroma was plenty sour, mild oakiness, sour cherry, lime, lemon.

Never had a Flanders this intense in terms of its lactic sourness, a nice development. Can really seem like you get the gritty red wine tannins up in this one as well. But the body is so light, not murky brown alesque that some lesser examples in the style will have. Very clean, takes on its own green appleness later. Clean and complex, how did they do it? Wouldn't be surprised if there is raspberries to this one as well, the color is bright enough, reminscient of Cantillon's Rose de Gambrinus.

A- This beer has a slightly deep warm brown body with a thin ring of light beige foam on top. There is a gentle carbonation of tiny bubbles popping of the base.
S- The bright tartness is mild with an earthy note to it and some dark dried but bright fruit aromas to follow.
T- The sharp tart pucker has some support from an oaky hint and a bright balsamic vinegar note in the finish. The finish is of dried fruit and is almost sweet and tart with a faint dried cherry quality.
M- This beer has a medium-light mouthfeel with a pleasant almost astringent pucker.
D- This beer is really easy to drink and the full tartness is very pleasant. There is a nice blend of tart and fruit flavors with the oak offering good support. This beer goes down fast and so does the next glass.

A: Pours a clear ruby brown with a half finger off white head that is quick to dissipate. Some visible carbonation in the glass. No lacing.

S: Great Flanders aroma going on here. A fruity cherry lambic tone with a strong funkiness. Oak comes through nicely as a vanilla note.

T: Fantanstic tart and sour flavor. Full flavored lambic with an oakiness. A touch of apple tartness. Very complex, difficult to explain all of the flavors going on here.

M: Just where you want a Flanders to be. A lot of carbonation gives this a real clean finish. Puckers you up after the first sip. Crisp finish.

Overall an absolutely amazing beer. Exemplifies the style and is one of my favorite types of beer. A must try by any sour fans. New to get some more of these.

Sorry! I know I'm going against the rating rules but sour beers aren't the greatest brewed beers... It can be a bios opinion but I don't like them, especially when they're rated in the top 250. That being said maybe I'll appreciate a sour beer at some point but as of now I do appreciate the brewing and creation and idea of them.

Poured from the bottle into a goblet.

Not the most impressive-looking beer, especially with the little head it produces. The head dissipates quickly and leaves only bits of lace. The liquid is dark brown with hues of red, somewhat intriguing and mysterious and this redeems the lack of head.

The sour cherry aroma hits you the moment you crack the cap, but other aromas are less forthcoming and only emerge as the beer warms. Once it does, the yeast becomes more apparent, as do some sherry and wine-like notes and sweet vanilla.

Much like the aroma, some warming is necessary to allow this beer to come alive. Initially, I detected the sour cherries and yeast but little else, but eventually the sherry, oak and vanilla emerged.

The beer is very vinous, tart and then mouth-puckering sour, before leading into a dry, wine-like finish.

I enjoyed this beer, especially as it warmed more, but I still didn't detect a lot of the complexities that I would have expected. It was good, but not my favorite sour.

Pours a crimson tincture with minimal tan head and light lacing.

Full-on assault of sour funk that makes my head tic and wince. Balsamic vinegar and tart cherry follow. Generally fruity and a hint of oak.

Taste of sour cherry upfront then going to the back in a sweet/sour fruity finish. I imagine Sweetart candy to get my mind off a sour cheese and dirty sock, but its ahhight.

Finish is astringent and crisp.

I haven't had a lot of sours and figure this may be the best to try again. I can see this is an acquired taste and keep the style in mind for review. Can't say I'm loving it but it keeps me coming back for more.
