A: pours a slightly hazy reddish-brown with half a finger of white head that fades into a frothy ring with little lacing.

S: tart cherries dominate with sweet candy sugar, some acetic notes, and a bit of barnyard funk.

T: tart cherries and raspberries along with other sour fruits dominate with a decent hit of acetic cinegar flavor. There is a nice bit of underlying funk before a tart, dry finish.

M: light body with moderate carbonation, this beer is light, puckeringly tart, and refreshing.

O: a great beer, overall. Super tart and sour but delicious and refreshing.

Bottle purchased from Fleming Place in Topeka, KS. My first Flanders Red. A number 05 was stamped on the back of the 11.2 brown bottle. No clue what that means, though. Poured into a Boulevard tulip.

Appearance: A straight pour revealed a one finger khaki head. I can hear this fizzing away. It quickly dissipated into a thin ring, and eventually nothing. Body was a very nice dark red color. Is this a glass of wine?

Aroma: The first smell revealed sour cherries/plums with a zesty tangyness. A subtle vanilla from the oak. The second a very musty, wet, dirty hay pile in a decaying old barn.

Taste: Intense sour cherries, grapes, and tart plumbs. A brief respite of oakyness. More tart fruits and fruit yougurt tangyness. A bit of mustyness. End with a very pleasant sweet fruitiness. Like orange candies.

Mouthfeel: Drying and crisp. Sticks to the teeth. Lower carbonation works keep the sourness manageable.

Overall: The sourness is intense at first but certainly not acerbic. The tart fruit flavors are very enjoyable especially the dark cherry notes. I think my favorite part of this beer was that gentle, sweet orange note at the end. Overall an enjoyable, complex sour red ale. Personally I would split the bottle.

Brownish-red colour, one finger of whiteish head, light lace as well. Smell is of cherry and soru fruits, oak and some vanilla, bit of sweetness as well here, apple skin and some acidity. Taste is a mix of sweet and sour, cherry and acidity, oak finish with vanilla, moderate tart flavours with a bit of malt in the aftertaste. Med-high carbonation, med-full body. Quite nice but left me wanting a bit more, good but not outstanding.
