A - Deep red pour. One finger ligth brown head gone to a film fast. Strong carbonation. Minimal spotty lace and a film of retention.

S - Tart cherry, sugar. Simple but nice.

T - Sour. Quite sour. Tart cherry, sugar. Cherry and vanilla to finish. Nice. Tart and sour up front, but other flavours shine through. Sweeter after time with some woody notes too.

M - Strong carbonation. Medium body, dry and tart finish with a little cherry note and vanilla.

O/D - Definitely a sour Flemmish Red. Not as much sweetness as you'd expect to balance, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Tasty and complex. Nice one.

I had low expectations for this based on my experience with it on tap. Luckily, it didn’t meet my low expectations, and blew me away. Great complexity. Very fruity up front with some nice toasted oak complexness, tart berries, a hint of damp funk, and a nice finishing dryness with a tartness that lingers. So tasty, so complex, so worth it. Go buy some if you can.

Appearance: Deep amber colour, with bright red hue when held in the light. Very thick bubbly head, slightly dark in tone that clings to the sides of the glass. First pour from the bottle, quite good clarity when held in the light. When taken away has a very dark appearance.

Aroma: Mild but dominant acetic notes blend nicely with the sweet scent of berries, currents and plum. Mixed in with the dominant acetic smell is a blend of sour apple and cherry.

Taste: Pronounced but pleasant sour taste blasts onto your tongue coating it with acetic and sour apple tartness. As you swallow, the sourness lingers in the back of your throat as sweet apple and beery flavours balance the flavours nicely.

Mouthfeel: Light and extremely smooth when entering the mouth, a spritz of carbonation quickly subsides into the sourness coating your tongue and leaving the back of your throat tart and tingling.

Another nice Belgian beer hits the Ontario LCBO shelves, I've been spending alot of money recently on these releases...

Appearance: Quite a deep hue of red/brown. head and lacing reasonably minimal.

Smell: One of the most fruit forward beers I've experienced (that doesn't actually have fruit in it). It's quite remarkable how simple malt and yeast can create such intense fruit aromas. Main profile includes cherries, oak, apple, plum, pear, even a little banana.

Taste: Again its quite fruit forward, rather sweet. sourness hits at the back and sides of tongue and is followed by some sourness and funk/earth. I think it's a bit too fruity and sweet for my personal tastes, but still rather enjoyable. Finish is long of course and very fruity, but also slightly sour/vomity/funky.

Mouthfeel: Quite thick, sticky, which is sort of to style, but relegates this to the desert course I would think. Slightly dry on the edges as I mentioned but not enough to sustain balance and urge you to drink on.

Overall, this is tasty, but I feel as though I've had better beers in this style (Rodenbach GC, and perhaps Petrus?)... Nevertheless it's definitely a nice one to have around and perhaps a good one to introduce non-beer folk to.

My first Sour review!

A - Poured out nicely, this beer has a good 1.5 finger head. Typical color I'd expect of a beer, nothing insane, but nothing tame either.

Smell - This... smells like a sour beer. Has a light, almost vinegar sensation on the nostrils, but you can tell it's full of cherry-like character.

Taste - Immediately, my taste buds are bombarded by a wall of sourness, but as it settles on my tongue, hints of cherry and dark cedar settle in, making it quite an inviting sour that you want to sip on frequently, but one that you want to enjoy for as long as you can.

Mouthfeel - It's quite light and bubbly, the after taste clings to your tongue in a great way, I like that I can take a little sip and really get what this beer is about and cherish it over the course of an hour or so, rather than having to take a nice gulp to get a great flavor profile.

Overall - I'm just starting to tread into sour territory. Before this I've had Supplication, and a few Petrus sours. This is way up there, if you are familiar with sour beers or if you are new to sour beers, I would recommend this one.

330ml Bottle from the Ottawa LCBO for $3.20

Appearance - Reddish brown colour with an average size fizzy/frothy beige head. There is an average amount of carbonation showing and there is some great lacing. The head lasted for 3-4 minutes before it was gone.

Smell - Malts, cherries, vinegar, citric acid

Taste & Mouth - There is an above average amount of carbonation and I can taste malts, vinegar and cherries. There is also a touch of vanilla and some citric acid. It ends with a fruity tart aftertaste.

Overall - A really impressive beer. It's very sour/tart but it still allows for some other nuances to come through. Subtle flavours can be detected throughout. I might even be able to have a few of these, which isn't something I can say about most sours.

A - dark ruby red. Looks a bit like a port wine with carbonation.

S - getting lots of sour apple and cherries

T - aggresively sour. Apples, cherries, raspberries, oak. This is a really sour beer.

M - nice moderate carbonation

O - this is not a sour for the timid. It is very aggressive with big, bold sourness and a complex range of fruit and oak flavors. A real winner.
