Had on Thanksgiving day while the turkey was roasting. The beer is a dark auburn color with a beautiful off white foam. The scent is tart, with a little barnyard and wet hay underneath. There is also a touch of malt. In taste, it is a very dry and moderately sour beer, with complexity....apples, cherries, wood, and candy. Tart finish. Excellent.

11.2 oz. bottled poured into tulip
(4/21/15 born on date ... consumed 11/22/15)

L: dark red-brown ... clear ... almost a 1-inch head of beige foam that doesn't stick but keeps a super-thick collar, really something to see with a little skin; no lacing

S: vinegar apples ... plenty of tartness/sourness with plenty of sweetness, great mix, and sweet/sour apples nails it for me; also some toasted cranberries, but with a pinch of sour thrown in; has a slight musty barn thing to it, and finger-nail polish/remover

T: follows the nose pretty well ... very tart apples, sweetens as it warms and also allows a nice lingering sweetness to help balance a pretty tart bite up front ... tart cranberries, raspberries; a hint of the musty farmhouse/wild ale flavor but only a hint -- the sour flavor here is a bit sweeter and cleaner; a big earthy bitter bite shows up at times and gives it what I think of as an American wild ale flair (though maybe this is an original note of the style?)

F: perfect ... big Belgianesque carbonation in a lightweight brew ... so easy to drink

O: it's everything I'm learning to love about this style, a great mix of very tart flavors with a lot of sweet flavors ... apples, cranberries, raspberries mostly come to mind, and the best part is neither the tart nor the sweet fly out of balance for very long. I will buy this beer again.

Pours a deep burgundy red @ The Answer Brewpub. Head does not stick around long. Aroma of cherry, plum, raspberry, oak lactic tartness.. flavors are in the the same range as aromas but also include underlying hints of green apple, oak, acetic, and very slight vanilla. Feel is light and sparkly. Overall I could drink this with breakfast or dinner. A wonderful example of a high class Flanders Red.

Appearance is a dark, cherry soda red with a slim head and some lacing.

Nose is very malty with sour cherry candy, baked wheat bread, and vanilla extract.

Taste is sour, with lemon and cherry.

Mouthfeel is clean at first then coats the tongue. Lots of carbonation.

Such a great example of a traditional Belgian flanders ale. So tart and has such complex flavor. It pours a dark, almost purple color with slight off white head that dissipates very quickly. The carbonation is on point.

Pours a dark amber-red with big garnet and ruby highlights when held to the light, Good clarity. Small tan colored head vanishes quick but leaves a ring of foam around the edges. Good lacing but it vanishes quickly.

Very tart aroma. Grows more sour as time goes on. Sour cherry, vinegar, oak, and raspberry. Intense, sour and fruity.

Extreme sour cherry for the taste. Vinegar, green apple, and oak. Hints of spicy black pepper and creamy vanilla. Lemon and berry. Some sweet cherry flavors buried under the sour cherry.

Moderate body with medium carbonation. Extremely sour, especially on the swallow and aftertaste. Some creaminess in the middle. Dry at the end. Cherry, sourness, and dryness linger.

An intense drinking experience. Definitely not for a first time sour drinker. Maybe the sourest beer I've ever had. Big cherry notes.

Fruity dark red look. plum berry taste. Not very bubbly. No head really. Bitter entrance up front. Smooth trail across the pallet. Chalky gross finish. Otherwise very well done.

L: gorgeous red, crystal clear, thin head. S: smells mainly of fruit, very subtle. T: overwhelming fruit, like drinking juice. I didn't get any hints of vanilla, but did taste incredible cherry and stone fruit. Ends off on a bit of a cocoa note, very unusual but yummy. F: very bubbly on the palate, very little after taste, some slickness on the palate towards the end. O: would drink again for sure! Low ABV sour with tons of fruity notes, very good!

Pours a very dark red color. Smells of vinegar, some sour cherries, and more vinegar. Taste is straight vinegar. Did I mention it tastes like vinegar? Glad I got to try this, but wasn't a fan.

Beautiful Flanders Red with mild sweet notes. Solid pucker on the front end with mild tannins and some sugars on the back end. Mouth feel was slightly thinner than expected but barely noticeable.

Pours a dark reddish brown body with a fluffy soap bubble like head which dissipated down to a thin amount on the surface.

Aromas of sour cherries and a touch of vinegar on the back.

Super tart, almost sucks your cheeks in it's so tart and sour!

Great amount of carbonation to off-set that sourness

Overall, a great sour beer! It sure is a sipper and not one to chug down indiscriminately; must be savored.

On tap the the Republic in Minneapolis.

Deep red-brown body; clear with a thin head that soon reduced to a ring.

I had a typical reaction to this in that the aroma was a bit unappealing but the flavor was good However, in this case the aroma was nearly neutral (but too much 'vinegar') and the flavor was very good. Nicely tart and moderately fruity,

O: Excellent for style.

11.5 oz bottle from Total Wine. Lovely dark cherry color. Starts with hint of cherry, and sourness comes on strong, followed by a lingering mild taste of cherries. Very nice.

This poured a nice copper almost ruby colour with a minimal white head that disappeared quickly. The nose was slightly vinegary but sweet at the same time. There was some green apple and brown sugar rounding it off. That vinegar went away on the taste, but was replaced by sour apple and cherry notes. It is rounded off with slight malt and wood hints. The carbonation is quite active but helps to balance out the sour tartness that perfuse the back and sides of your tongue. One of the better sours I've had lately.

A: A nice ruby brown color, fairly clear, with a somewhat small amount of tan head.

S: Tart and vinegary, with some slight fruit notes, and a little bit of a brown sugar smell.

T: Oh my, lovely fruity notes, and a beautiful sourness. Some dark berry/cherry flavor, and clean acidity that cuts through. This beer is pretty phenomenal.

M: Medium light in body, with very active carbonation and a wonderful smoothness.

O: Damn. This beer is just fantastic. Smooth, acidic, and intriguing.

Poured from an 11.2oz bottle (bottled 13Jan15) into a Rona snifter. Pours with a half finger's worth of off-white foam that dissipates to a quarter's worth within 30 seconds. The darkest and rubiest of reds in color. Has strong sour apple and yeast aromas that blend really well with mild cherry sweetness and smoke aromas and a hint of oak. Initial taste is of strong green apple flavors that combine with mild cherry flavors. Strong, sour yeast flavors along with subtle smokey and oak flavors enter immediately after as initial flavors persist. The symphony doesn't end there as flavors reverse in exiting order with yeast, oak, and smokey flavors ending first and apple and cherry flavors remaining well into after taste. Medium bodied, mild carbonation and dryness with a crisp finish. This was one heck of a Flanders red ale. I say another!

Flemish reds usually have pretty mild, nutty/buttery flavours which are unfortunately completely lost in the extreme sourness of this particular recipe. Still very good, I just don't see the point of this style being sooooo puckering sour.

on tap at Town Hall Tap, into a wine glass/chalice

a: dark coppery red with hardly any head, bubbles
s: great! crabapple, bing cherries, faint vinegar, mellow oaky wood
t: even better...follows the nose, comes in layers that are delightful to savor. Also a little vanilla and roasted notes that I didn't get in the nose.
f: pleasant sour pucker, dry at the end...perfect carbonation.

great beer

L: Pours a beautiful dark red with thin white head. Lots of carbonation keep it going.

S: Great sour notes! Strong.

T: Super sour! Pricks the taste buds right up. I can almost draw a line where my palate picks up the sour! Lots of yeasty barnyard funk. This one will scare away the faint of heart, but for those looking for something different, it will amaze. Don't feel I can taste the alcohol.

F: Goes from dry to drier. Light carbonation that's hidden in the background.

O: A great sour beer with everything I want - sour and funk, beautiful color, clarity, and head. World. Class. Happy I found this one.

Sour at the front end with fruit, mainly cherries, on the back end. Funk is mild. Pleasant sour no doubt. Malts, fruitiness, oak and similar to Surly Pentagram, but lighter. Not to forget to mention the best taste of all - TART, very nice!

Bottle 6/5/15 home

Pours red. What else should it pour. The smell is actually faint. Almost kind of a date smell. Nothing really strong though.

The taste is a sour bomb followed by some cranberry and cherry. Very nice and well put together. Refreshing.
